"Tomorrow War" by J.L. Bourne (not related to the Chris Pratt movie). Makes pretty heavy reference to comms, radio stuff, getting hunted with DF equipment, etc. It's actually a pretty big driving force. The story is basically Red Dawn in the backwoods of Arkansas except it's against an increasingly tyrannical, shattered U.S. government as society breaks down due to weaponized economic collapse. It's an innawoods wet dream.

Although i'm technically a tech person in profession, i am reluctantly so. I swear i'm a 70 year old in a much younger body and am much more mechanically inclined than technically. I suppose its just a lot of personal ignorance surrounding different terms and verbiage. It feels like drinking from a firehose that i can't make any sense of. @Segphalt3 жыл бұрын
@@GrahamBartle Meshtastic is what runs on the open source DIY Lora boards. (The not open source things built for hikers are way to expensive and not very good) I was talking about the DIY stuff in regards to meshtastic, the problem I have seen people encounter is the DIY boards are made for developers and are really clunky if you just want a Meshtastic device and don't have a fair bit of electronics tinkering experience. I am currently working on a project to try and rectify that with a board that has no bells and whistles but is explicitly meant for Meshtastic and comes as one unified board (kinda like the T-Beam but in a more vertical form factor instead of horizontal, with the ability to put it in a bare Bones low power repeater only mode (Bluetooth off, wifi off no GPS on board to save power) with the ability to hook it up to a 7-24v solar panel (a 12 inch panel aught to be able to power it indefinitely in conjunction with battery for night) and slap it on a hillside for those unfortunate hilly areas so long as you can find a sutible largely waterproof enclosure an clear south facing sky and a mast to put it on. You could also use it as a longer range point to point transmitter with a Yagi or other directional antenna. I guess since you are also concerned about price is $30 per unit unreasonable for something like that? I don't know I can realistically produce boards for less than that and not go broke, I'll be making it anyway just because I want it for my own use but I have considered selling a run or 2 if interest is there.

@woodpass3 жыл бұрын
@@isaacbotkintrex You are absolutely correct, and there are a few ways that we can produce the electricity to power your batteries. One unrelated point: you can still spoof car key fobs that use rolling codes. You plant a little device on the car that will record the key fob frequency while simultaneously jamming on an adjacent frequency. The car owner hits unlock. It doesn’t work first go, because your jamming signal kept the car from parsing out the code. Your device however, recorded that code and is ready to play it the next time the owner hits unlock (presumably right then and there because it didn’t unlock the first time). Your device does the same thing each time going forward. It will always have the next anticipated code. The owner is none the wiser, and you now have access to the car whenever you need it because your device now holds the key.

Uh, every transmitter HAS to have filtering on the output, otherwise it would be spewing harmonics, and be highly illegal. A Hack RF may not come with filtering, but YOU are responsible for installing an appropriate low-pass or band-pass filter for your band of interest and placing it inline between the antenna and transmitter... otherwise you will be transmitting in multiple places at once. Oh, that activity you're seeing between 700-800mhz? Those are cell signals.

Do DMR Radios work, if there is no reception? Mabey an analog Radio is still the better option
@garrettstephens912 жыл бұрын
DMR is nice, the only issue with DMR is with repeaters. In Amateur Radio, most repeaters are set up by private individuals with the intent for the public to use. It is illegal for Amateur Radio to be a "private" hobby. It is illegal to claim or hog bands and whatnot. With DMR anyone who puts up a repeater can block or "kill" the radio of anyone that is on their repeater. You only find this with DMR. Let's just say that Billy puts up a repeater, and him and all his buddies are talking to each other using it and someone they don't recognize hops onto the repeater and does everything legal, the repeater owner (if he doesn't want other people on "HIS" repeater), can send a kill signal to your radio making it so that your radio is disabled until you do a factory reset on it. All other types of repeaters don't have this option. It goes against the spirit of Amateur Radio.

Um. In a real war, you cannot use any sort of radio with any proficiency. It's not even limited to radios or anything with RF anymore. The only sort of "defense" would be a mesh network, but even then if it's on, you are going to be toast. If you want to survive in a war like the one happening in Russia or Ukraine, you simply don't use any communication devices plain and simple. No ands, ifs or buts.
