Hey thanks for this tutorial. I have made a couple of these just messing around. Then I came up with an idea to use 5mm electro-luminescent wire to make the double helix. Making blue and green ones. They look awesome so far but I am not finished with my project. When I am I will make a quick video and post a link here so you can see the finished product. Thanks again for help and inspiration.

Hey jonathan. I am thinking of doing these for myself. But also selling extras I make. And I also came up with the idea of making some other colors for the liquid.Like fluorescent green/yellow. Like gutting 2 or more highlighters and milking the felt ink tube and so on. Like fluorescent orange for the T- Veronica virus from Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. I also have a low temp glue gun. And some super glue as well to use when I want to seal the caps the ends. I dunno.

its pretty cool. but the moment where you get your blow out when securing the tubes, you should use cement glue. you won't see it because of the caps at the ends and its cold so it won't make another blowout.

I'd wrap the vinyl tubing around something like pvc pipe, to get the spiral, then fill it with blue resin, and let the resin cure to hold the shape. No leaks then.

Nice tutorial, good stuff. To stop it leaking from the pressure... from heat, just use a tiny bit of hot glue at a time, could use regular super glue but that would take bloody ages to do. What's the diameter of the tubing please?

You could also use clear acrylic tubing more like plexiglass but thinner....love your video by the way, this helped me a lot for my project alice costume😁

i have gotten to the point where i need to insert the filled vinyl tubing into the polycarbonate tube, and it always bunches up and i cannot seem to get it to work. if it's not workable into a double helix, then one of the ends bursts open. I tried doing one at a time, tried two at a time, i cannot just get it to work. are my vinyl tubes too long? I tried to aim for 9 inches a piece

I found the polycarbonate tubing, vinyl tubing, and PVC caps and utility knife at Home Depot. The Glue Gun and Glue sticks at Joann Fabrics. The Eye Dropper at CVS. The Food Coloring at any grocery store.

Hi Kyle, I used a generic brand of food colouring I found at target and it worked perfectly. So I don't think it matters too much what type (natural or chemical) you use.

I used dish soap..If i remember correctly, the commentary over the movie says that's what they used.

Jonathan Fraga I added fluorescein, what makes glow Sticks glow, to water so it glows green under a black light and it had a really cool effect. Making the fluorescein was the hard part though I had an old chemistry teacher gather all the chemicals needed to make it. The ending results were worth it though.

Hi, the cap is a 1 1/4 inch pvc pipe cap and the manufacturer is DURA. I purchased them at Home Depot for about $0.75 each. They're simply sanded down and painted with spray paint.
