I studied in Costa Rica for 3 months and in the case of Costa Rica it is very common to use "usted" even with close family members. The difference between countries is very interesting!

Qué interesante. Soy búlgaro. Tenemos reglas similares sobre lo formal y informal como usted en México, pero nunca usamos la form "usted" para ningún miembro de la familia. En los últimos 20 años cada vez más personas solo usan la forma informal, incluso con personas mayores que no conocen y el usted se usa solo para maestros, médicos, el primer ministro...

If you're not sure whether to use tú or usted, you can just talk to two people and say ustedes!

soy coreana, el coreano es mas complicado y stricto. siempre tenomos que usar lengua formal a mayor jaja por lo tanto cuando uso tú a mayor en español me siento muy muy irrespetuosa😂

we have this same rule in russian and ukranian language..only more strict...no way you can talk to a dentist using informal pronoun, no matter their edad
