Great video! Ready for a book? I used to think I was really bad at the E3, but I have a 51% win rate in it and I thought I was playing poorly. I now realize that it is just a seriously inflexible tank with little going for it. Anyone good just avoids the lane you are protecting and finishes you off last. It is only really good against muppets that will continually poke you when you have an advantageous position. It has a great gun and great armor, but its not enough. Add to the mix HE tanks like the type 4/5 and tanks with big guns that are willing to load HE like E100, opposing E3, etc and HESH tanks and the armor just doesn't do it. In theory its a great tank, but in practice it does not work. I have had some success with platooned E3's, but playing it solo is an exercise in frustration. I can't tell you how many times my team has died before I get there, but I'm already committed. Add arty to the mix and it is not a very fun tank to play. I appreciate the validation that it isn't the best tank. Thanks for the review. I'd like to see you play the 268 4 and explain why the E3 sucks in today's meta. :P Cheers.

Yes, my advice when facing E3's is the same - avoid avoid avoid early-to-mid game, flank later and kill it. The 268 v4 is still problematic even post-nerfs because it has both meaningful armor and meaningful mobility. The E3 is balanced because it has great armor but awful mobility.

My second T10 was the JP E100. I quit playing it because everyone would just spam gold at me and the armor did not hold up but I might give it another try. I also got my JagdTiger out recently and had some fun with it. I think i remember liking the JagdTiger more than the JP E100.

Really good video. More TD players need to watch. Far too many think TD equals camp and snipe. Some that is the way to play properly, but many it isn't the right way to play. It's true of other classes, as well. You mention "tanking". Far too many heavy players (I'm excluding low tier and squishy heavies) don't understand their role. Nothing is written in stone, and many tanks play different than their class might suggest, but many people don't seem to understand when to fit the round peg into the round hole.

Exactly. When playing a tank with meaningful armor, the player needs to be willing to leverage it. It always makes me sad when I see heavies and armored TDs camping in the back. Even moreso when they whine at their team for dying, when they allowed it to happen.

@@taugrim problem I have, and why I quit heavies, for the most part, was after Oprah came on with gold for everyone. Armor has become pretty worthless escpecially with Soviet mediums being able to be light/medium/and heavy tanks themselves.

I wish the E3's sides were not so weak. It can be a frustrating tank to solo in, whereas in the T95 I felt more self-sufficient because the side armor was meaningfully good. Hope RL stuff is going well, let me know when things are settled.

@@taugrim Yeah, the 95 is a bit more forgiving and trolly, but I think the E3, if it can hide it's lower plate or mostly obstruct it, is super strong. I made the baddie moves of using it as a sniper my first go through (same with the T95) and it's been a mighty road to bring them back from potato

I hope other drivers of assault TDs since this episode or the one on the T95. They're really built for bullying. It's OK to snipe when the situation warrants it, it's just not good to end up too far off the back of the battle where you can't keep up meaningfully.

Good my Brother, Hope all is well with you and your family. I was grinding the E3 line when world of tanks came out with the TS-5 marathon. Got that tank instead and "wow" , that's a face hugging monster. I am not the best player by a long shot. My first 5 games I found out that this tank is Beast. I agree that armor should be used. But i think it's unfair to compare JagE100 with E3. Because E3 is far more resilient than a JagE100. I think that JagE100 works better as a HT support, forward second line. Either peek, shoot and retreat behind allies/cover or as a surprise for enemy attackers focusing on some forward allies. Taking an aggressive forward role, although it brings some pressure on the spot, the reload is somewhat slow, the gun needs to aim a bit and worst is that the armor can be pretty easy penetrated. I hide my hull and angle and still pretty useless against several incoming HEAT shells. So i think it's best to try not to get focused and hit, leave the first line to a HT or something to soak those shells.

I play this tank-destroyer a lot I’ve yet to master in it, I have however got a whole lot of damage in it, but also taken a lot of damage in as well. It’s not a bad TD but not easy to to use, my main complaints are it slow speed and exposed weak spots cupola and sides of the front superstructure and bottom of the hull.

The cupola is fairly strong but the lower side armor is just butter for its tier. I found the E3 frustrating after playing the bully T95.

Taugrim yes the cupola is much better armor, but as soon as the enemy find out that they can’t shoot it they’ll start shooting HEAT or HE and you will take damage not a lot but it quickly starts to accumulate especially when they start hitting your sides and even though it’s pretty mobile it’s still slow compared to heavier tanks and medium tanks.

One point tho, even tho I agree on pushing the flank in super heavy td's e3 is much better at it than jpz. Fewer weakspots and in general not even gold will work on e3. Jpz on the other hand has that commander hatch that fv hesh can pen and front is cheese for heat. Punchy gun yes but rather derpy

That is fair. Also the JPE has a large lower plate (~230mm effective). That said, the cupola on the JPE is not that big and can be protected with wiggling.

What I most appreciate about these video's is that you don't show ace tanker battles which give no true feel for how a tank will mostly play. Even nubs get the odd ace tanker and they have no skillage to share.

After 30 games at a 27% win rate and less average damage than my t95 or even t28(love those TD's) I sold it and put the crew in the t28 for frontlines since I find I sometimes need a "You shall not pass!!" tank for fl. The RNG I got with that E3 was the worst gaming experience in my life.

To your point about squishiness and the "no-skill" Japanese heavy tanks: I had a CW battle this weekend and my clanmate's Type 5 shot an E3 from the front - and did 1400 damage. Incredulous, we pulled up the replay afterwards and realized that the E3 was angled just enough (and RNG was just mischievous enough) that the Type's 5's shell nicked the back edge of the E3's raised engine deck and penned it.

I hate tanks/heroes/classes like the Type 5 Heavy in PVP games. It's too effective with too little skill. It was the same way with the Warrior classes in RIFT (Champion build) and in WildStar. Too much armor, too much easy damage dealing.

That's a small repair kit. Auto Fire Extinguisher pays for itself based on triggering after 1 tick of fire. I do use large first aid kit for the passive bonus.

IMO no. It's the weakest passive bonus. Generally when you get tracked, you either need to repair immediately or you can wait for the repair. Therefore doing it slightly faster doesn't matter.

Big oof lol You said in the video that tanks like the e3 and jgpz should use their armor and be on the front lines, but I have found that in the jgpz it's very hard to do that. Your armor is not as good as it seems, and gets penned a lot. The gun isn't good enough to snipe with either, so I found the best way to play it is to be a support heavy. Poke out once people have fired and not to rely on your armor. Also ammo usage is very important, should you use AP and hope it goes where you aim it? Use heat and hope they dont give you their side? Or use HE and deal 500-600 damage? I've been trying to 3 mark it but have plateaued at 86%. Just wanted know your opinion on it compared to the E3.

I never touched my E3 since Type4/5 era. What's the point of driving E3 when those bigbois just can slap you in the face with 500-600 damage and get away with it? After nerf I might play it again, but might as well just play T95. As you said, the speed boost you get in E3 is negligible after T95 buff so there's really no point in getting the tier X. E3 imho need at least HP buff so it could soak up more HE rounds from derps and arty.

The T95 is more capable of soloing. Its has bully armor, solid side armor, and better camouflage. The E3 is a balanced tank, but it really benefits from being in a platoon, so people can't flank-n-farm you.

6:28 - so you are angry at the Type 5 for left-clicking you in the face and doing damage because *there is no skill involved in that* but you are ok with the E3 penning you because he loaded premium ammo? I just don't consider that a measure of true skill either... Even if it is a 'game mechanic working as intended'.

Of course it's cheesy that the E3 clicked the 2 key and penned the superstructure's cheek. I was also facing slightly to the left, but even so with silver ammo his shot likely wouldn't have penetrated. Premium ammo is really bad for tank balance, and it's a pay-for-advantage mechanic given that it's 3-20x more expensive than silver ammo. I know you don't do this but in E3 you have to use premium ammo. You are always infront of enemies. Always. With apcr a badgers front is useless against you. On flat ground Kranvagn turrets are useless. IS7 and 277 turrets are useless

I think the Type 4/5 where a good counter towards hull down Russian tanks. Those are a pain to deal with and require virtually no skill. Find a rock and you’re all set.
