Thanks for sharing, I've just got into this type of testing after having built a fairly complex PV system and wiring between the installation and the two buildings to be served. I look forward to your next video 🙏

Great point, I've never tried measuring Siemens before so that would make for an interesting test / comparison. I'll try remember to do it...if I forget in the 1st review please tap me on the shoulder again. Cheers, Martin.

Is it possible Martin, when you go on with this tutorials, to do a pratical test ? Where you put the clamps on the DB board, the readings, what is a good/bad reading,.. ?

If it carbonized, possibly if you would have gone back with basic multimeter it would have shown 0 ohms, great video I've learned a great deal from you sir, Thankyou!

Can you test a Capacitor like the one in the CRT TV (Main Filter Capacitor)...how can you check when the problem is intermittent..(capacitors breakdown after high voltage is loaded).. thanks

I recently had a GFI trip. Because the house was build before NEC updated code on GFI in 2008 it had more then one room on the load side. So this GFI trip affected garage door opener, outside light, and bathrooms. I had replaced all outlets and switched 5 years ago when I noticed on outlet cracking. So I traced the circuit, and because it spanned multiple rooms it was time consuming. I was down to the backyard light, this was a recent install of a new LED spotlight last year. But all checked out good. So I placed a tone generator to see if I was missing a line and found a backyard outside outlet I forgot about since I don't use it. Further inspection showed proper weather sealing was good. But age, cold, heat change caused the plastic of the outlet to split open and crack in half. Replaced that outlet and all was good. Point is if your GFI outlets are working it may never trip the main breaker, but it's still indicates a definite problem. Just wanted to share, Thanks for the video.

one question, when would 1000v ever run through your house? im pretty sure the 240v main breaker would kick ?
@jasonbone5121
@jasonbone5121 9 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Kalionzes Never. The purpose of the 1000v is to generate a high enough pressure to find "leaks" in the insulation. You may have a wire with a nick in the insulation, the when damp, has a low enough resistance to pass current thereby creating a ground fault. Once conditions are dry, the resistance will increase removing the fault (temporarily until the moisture becomes present again). So now we have a situation where when wet, 120 or 240V (depending on the circuit) is enough electrical pressure to push a current through bad insulation, yet when dry, it i not enough pressure due to the increased resistance (no moisture). This is where the 1000V comes in to play. The hopes are that the 1000V will have enough electrical pressure to push a current through the higher "dry" insulation to help locate the fault. Hoping that provided a bit of insight.

All those things coming in the future. He padded the description so this page will rank well on Google for those searches using those keywords. I'm all for SEO, but it's annoying when you arrive at a page expecting that content and it's not there.

Well you can't complain about an overview video. Nor that it talks about future events. That's just the way it is dude :)

when are you going to examine insulation Most thought the installation, then you need a little better probing device instance Fluke 1653B provides a much better reading. There are still companies that have even better istruments. I often have to repair the installation in 80% of cases using tester installation.

Good video again Martin, thanks. Btw you know you've made it on youtube when the nutters and brats show up and start showering you with abuse (because, perhaps, they don't understand what overview means) but don't let the fame change you man, lol!

I'm not complaining about anything, and my point is lost on you. I find it frustrating to try to communicate with people less intelligent than myself, so I'm not going to waste my time trying to explain it to you. One last thing. If you want to learn how to paint your car, and the page you visit says "coming soon" instead of actually showing you... then it has no value to you. I like this channel but this video is just slapped together to make extra advertising revenue.

Every single one of the videos you uploaded have far more dislikes than likes, which proves my point you are completely clueless on this subject. Stick to what you are good at like watching cartoons and giving out five dollar handies, because anything more complex than that is over your head. All your future comments will be ignored.
