@Arnav...THIS! To see your small Longbow army blown away, retreat the few survivors back into the castle (where Longbows are made), yet not think to spam more/replacements seems unreal. To then buy archer upgrades..???? Shows how losses in these game battles can unsettle the mind, I suppose.

I love how longbows and crossbows are accurate to history, considering the whole reason crossbows existed is because longbows required too much training. While longbows were better, any peasant with minimal training could pick up a crosbow.

Yeah no not really. All you need is strength to use a bow. Crossbows are a lot more expensive to make, some people could not afford them. However since it's Britons and all brist by law had to do archery once a week and so could all shoot longbows, this is not accurate. I would also add that longbows aren't necessarily better in real life, crossbows do a great job at piercing armour, better than longbows but have less range.

It all depends on the draw weight... a crossbow with a light draw weight wont pierce armor more efficiently than a high poundage longbow and what you say about the range is also wrong. Why exactly according to you do crossbows have shorter range than longbows?

@@kingmomo2828 "All you need is strength to use a bow" I'm sorry, did you perchance fight wars using longbows to know that? Have you ever even touched a longbow? They're not just regular bows. They are huge and need a shit ton of strength *and technique* to be used well. And even then, that strength requires training. And lots of it. No average peasant could fire an arrow from a longbow with any meaningful distance. Check out videos of people firing english longbows today, quite strong people fail to use them properly. "All brits by law had to do archery once a week" Again a lie, the Britons (not british, britons, this takes place in the early medieval age) did not give any lessons to their peasantry outside times of need. Nobles and townsfolk living around castles got archery training. Crossbows are far easier to use, and were provided to peasantry when in need. You didn't just own a random crossbow as a peasant. Longbows are better in combat since they can be shot much further and damage horses from a much greater distance. Armor piercing barely matters because you're definitely not relying on archers if you're that up close.

@@kingmomo2828 Dude it took YEARS to train an archer even more so with longbows which is why the English were very proud of their longbowmanship. The Crossbow was essentially the beginning stages of using a gun it required a lot less training and strain on the human body to use a crossbow thus allowing armies to be fielded with lots of crossbowmen that could be very effective if used right much quicker than archer as well as resupplying crossbows with fresh troops which longbowman didn't have.

Blue MIGHT have diedthere, but red held fast to his sacred oath of not building ANY more military until your first, tiny army is completely lost.🙄 Even after losing nearly all those longbows, he steadfastly made NOTHING for several painful miinutes. 🤦🏻‍♂️ My biggest weakness is not spending resources and pumping vills when the fighting starts, but red made me look efficient.

Longbows need to be buffed. I know they’re good, but they should be better. Like, 8 extra range. And thumb ring. Unique units in general should be a stupid powerful, yet super expensive unit. Not just an option.

Yeah. And bring back obsidian arrows as a third briton unique tech in castle age with +15 bonus damage against buildings for longbows. Also longbows should get 10 bonus damage against cav and skirms. Another thing to buff longbows could be splash damage with like 3 tiles radius

As a new player who has picked Britons as my first civ to learn this hurts me to my soul. The idea of going for longbow spam is such as trap. I feel like they aren't that special until you invest a huge amount of res in upgrades which tends to be far too slow.

Where are these so called low elo legends when i play? Im thirty hours into this game and im a veteran starcraft player and i swear when i watch those videos i could just crush any of these dudes but when i play online i just get demolished. How does that work? Is it because the game makes me start at 1000 elo so im gonna have to lose all my games until i go down to people actually my level?

Yes. I`m around 850 ELO, now I win half and lose about half. If you are losing every time, your real ELO will be lower. But remember it is really easy to spot mistakes watching the game while chilling out, watching both sides, etc. It is a lot harder to when actually playing...

I found it if anyone is interested.. it’s on the right when you create a skirmish game, it literally says ai difficulty /facepalm and there is a mod you can download to stop the ai resigning
