Thanks Tony for the nice video on the Daiwa. I also have the CN-801 HP and CN-801 V and have had no real problems with them for well over 10 years. The manual is available on several online sites as well as a schematic diagram for the CN-801 HP. There is actually an LM358 dual single supply operation amplifier in the PEP section and the PEP mode needs the external DC source connected to the meter. I just checked my unit and the bottom meter lights looks to be cool white if you want it to look factory and replace the blue lights. If you need any of the manuals or a picture of the lighted meter just let me know and I will send them to you. Glad you were able to fix the Power/SWR meter.

Thank you John.. it seems almost if each model had the color lights of its logo .. so the V version Orange logo has Orange light and the HP version en blue. i have seen now more HP versions with Blue lights. And thanks you for your offer, i keep that in mind.!

Great work! Did you see any difference in the PEP readings with the DC power connected and disconnected? Also, did the blue lamp need to be switched ON for the PEP power reading to work correctly?

As i understand the PEP circuit need power becouse of the OPAMP in the circuit. the light does not add anything than light. i forgot if it was switchable. later i compair the 801 and 901... then i have a look at the light switches. Thanks for your comment

These are active peak reading meters. The only kind there is as far as "PEP" is concerned

I've got the modern Daiwa CN-901HP3 meter and the slightly yellow background of the face, when the LED light is turned off is nice. Occasionally, I forget to set the correct power range on the meter and the needle hits the end scale. I don't believe that I have damaged the meter. Any thoughts?🤔

Hi, don't do that to often, it can never be very good :) a good practice is to start always o the highest range and than go down the ranges.

What do you use to power this meter? how many amps? or do you just connect it directly to your 13.8 v power supply

Yes i power it with 12 or 13.8 is uses very little like its only for the backlight and the SSB circuit if you want to see peak

For PEP measurements it needs to be connected to 12volts.

I have a similar cross needle Daiwa, the cross needle appear to move freely however when you tx and the left side power needle rises to its level , if you give the top of the meter a few slight taps the needle will move up some more, when you stop txing the needle won't fall back to zero, it will stay above zero the same amount it increased with tapping it, tapping it again results in the needle falling back down to zero.. Any ideas ? Cheers

Hi, it sounds like they run free, wich is good, sometimes the meter is staticly charged.. if you have cleaned it a lot, maybe you charged it.. try opening the meter carefuly as i did. matbe you see something or by opening it discharges... you need to try somthing...

@TonyAlbus thanks Tony, you gave me the idea to feed the signal into the antenna s0239 and see if it reflected amout (on the other needle ) does the same.. Cheers.

The PEP switch is for peak. so if i remember correct. the CN-801 and CN-901 have that. but you can check the specs on google to be sure.
