I was pretty young when this came out, so I didn't know it existed. However, I remember Tabatha from the old Bewitched series. The odd thing is that Bewitch would have gone off the air 2 years before this aired and Tabatha would have only been 10 years old. Also Tabatha was the first child and her younger brother was Adam on Bewitched.

Even though it was interesting, how they made it was ridiculous. How could they make Adam mortal and the older brother when he was clearly the younger one and showed magic in the original? Also I wondered who the heck is Aunt Minerva? Where does she come from in the family? What would make more sense is if Tabitha and Adam were mortal/witch, warlock hybrids like in Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Also they should have kept with the original showing how meddlesome Adam is like Endora was in the original. In the original Adam was very careless with that lady appearing right in front of her, he should be keeping his magic secret and it makes sense Tabitha is the more responsible one. Also no doubt Tabitha would be complaining to Adam "Will you just stop already? You know I can't undo your magic"

After the pilot episode they used Bewitched sound effects for most of the witchcraft. Tabitha still had her own nose twitch sound (I'm happy they didn't use Samantha's) and Aunt Minerva and Tabitha popped in and out with a sound effect made especially for this series. The rest of the sound effects were lifted from "Bewitched". The only sound effect in this episode from Bewitched is at the end of the episode when Tabitha is messing around with the clocks. This series was much better than the original "Tabatha" pilot with Liberty Williams; they made some really, really bad choices with that series (though I've always liked Liberty Williams).

The problem with this show was that instead of trying to be it's own thing, it was trying to be Bewitched. But still weirdly messed up the continuity of the original show. We did not need a Darrin-esque character in this show. It was established previously that Adam is a warlock and Tabitha's YOUNGER brother. And even if he weren't a warlock, it makes no sense that he would be so against witchcraft and witches when his own mother is a witch. Bizarre choices made for this show. No wonder it didn't work.

I've done the research so you don't have to: this show ran from '77 to '78, getting the axe after eleven episodes. Ratings started out okay, but gradually slipped, and it came in a dismal 81st out of 104 programs at season's end. I've seen a few episodes elsewhere, and it was okay... but I feel like the continuity issues doomed it before it even began. Making Adam her older brother, introducing the hitherto-unmentioned Aunt Minerva, randomly setting the whole thing in LA, etc.

It's been a while, but I believe in the original pilot for TABITHA, Adam was a warlock. I don't know why they changed it. I watched the series all the same.
