Follow the diagram from the Amazon switch you purchase. The switch should give a good picture of how to hook up the switch.

Mike, I know you posted this over three years ago but I just bought one and had the same questions about wiring for 110 volt. You wired it correctly! I went on Powertec's website and the wiring diagram for 110 volt is very clear, showing where the wires are to be connected. Thanks for this video because it is still current for the Powertec 110/220 switch.

That's a lot safer than the old switch. Most new saws have them. I had to replace my switch on my Ridgid R4512 They sent me a new one free of charge. Have to love a lifetime warranted tool.

I did the same... it works fine for 110V (switches both the hot and neutral) and an easy conversion to 220V later (when both the black and white are hot legs). The only improvement over what is shown here is I used a metallic surface mount box with extender to allow more cable work space inside, provides better ground protection and used NM cable clamps. Leaving them loose at the box entry points by using that standard electrical wall box is suboptimal IMHO.

It's a great idea and I'll end up doing it - much safer. The only negative I see is the red plastic stop paddle getting broken. Hit during an emergency, perhaps the plastic degrading over time, plastic doesn't last it just keeps the cost down for the manufacturer. Lotta cheap options then.....paint it with epoxy and put a thin wood cover on top, or what would you suggest?

Iv had to do a panic stop a few times, no issues. maybe over a really long time it would be an issue. i bet the switch itself would fail before the stop paddle.

Here's one for the 'now I feel foolish' file. I got one of these switches a while back and finally got around to installing it today. Got everything hooked and pressed the button and nothing. Checked all my connections. Good. Was I getting voltage at the switch? Yes. Temporarily hooked old switch back up. Worked fine. I was really scratching my head. Came into the house and searched for info on the web. Mike's video came up and I watched it. Spotted my problem. What was it? I wasn't pushing the on button hard enough. I knew this was a magnetic reset type switch, but I'd never used one before. I was expecting a soft pressure sort of thing and the button did move some before stopping. What you actually get is a rather stiff, long travel. Understandable for this kind of application. You don't want a power tool coming on by mistake, but it threw me a curve today. BTW, the manual & diagram for this switch is available online. Here's the link. www.superiorelectric.us/pub/media/wysiwyg/pdf/se/SW56-1-manual.pdf

I have a question: The Delta Unisaw uses a magnetic contactor relay in the control box controlled by a NO/NC interlocked e-stop type switch. Have you bypassed this function to directly control the motor with this paddle switch and is the saw overlaods still functional.

Hello just watched your switch replacement vid ........great ty..........i have three questions please? #1 Did you say in the vid the ground is wired direct to the table saw and not the switch? #2 How is it wired into your breaker..........i'm assuming its 220v ...20 amp breaker. #3 What power line did you use 12:3 romax or other.... I found your vid informative. As my table saw is 220v and i have also bought the exact same switch as yours to ...i wasn't sure how to wire it now but seeing your set up I know I'm on the right path to installing it now..thank you

I was looking for one of those switches for my router table last year. I like how fast your saw comes to a stop. Mine coasts for about 4 minutes before stopping. I guess after 30 years the bearing are still good. But I always finding myself grabbing a scrap piece of wood to stop it, which most say that's not a good idea.

It appears to be 110v circuit? If so I think you wired it incorrectly. The neutral would be continuous not going through the switch. That switch has two sets of terminals, normally open and normally closed. I have the same switch in my hand and was scratching my head for a minute on it.

This is the same switch I have and no diagram on it for the internal contacts, it was designed for 220v also, so it makes and breaks both contacts, 120v that is the same with the neutral white wire on the second pole. just to be sure, test it for continuity with the multimeter. good video

You never showed a clear shot of how it was wired. I have the same switch and tried to follow along. Wasn't working. Also I don't know what "load" and "line" means - these words are printed on this switch. I'm used to there being 3 wires in an electrical cord - hot, neutral, and ground. Is load the same as hot? You didn't say but I guess we just connect the ground from the saw directly to the ground from the power supply with a wire nut.

Ihave a switch that resembles this one but has different connectors. They are numbered13, 14, 23, 24 and a small connector named A. In the very small diagram on the switch I understand the live in is 13, 23 and to motor is 14 and 24. But what I don;'s understand is the smaal A connector. It shows a symbol like this: U< But it doesn't tell me wher the wire has to go. I see you switch has a similar smaal connector and you have a white cable on it.... so where does that go to and what is it for? Thanks in advance for replying . (Ron, Netherlands)

@RondenBreems 3 жыл бұрын
@@mfwoodshop Haha, that's not very helpful. I'll have to find the answer elsewhere. But thanks for telling me. As far as I can tell from other videos it SEEEMS that A has to receive current from the live motor side of the switch in order to keep the switch in the on-position (current to the coil that attracts the magnet in the switch.)

+Painter josh I wouldn't advise it, but yes it will work in a pinch. The light switch has to be rated high enough. The risk you will run into is potentially you could bump it and turn your saw on by accident.

This paddle switch is also a magnetic switch. If the power is interrupted ( power outage etc. ) it will not allow the saw to restart if the power is restored. A regular light switch as well as many older equipment switches do not have this safety feature
