Hi Donabel. I have a small question. at 26.21 when you toggle the segment the Grand Total and SUbtotal by region are not supposed to change but the Sales , % of Region total , % of Grand Total can change because the % of Region total , % of Grand Total depend on sum(sales) which is in turn affected by the "segment" dimension filter.

One comment at minute 7:50: Why do we have the same numbers for every year at the most frequent level (17, 13)? I interpret this report as follows: one customer bought 17 orders every year. If I add customers to the tooltip, I see the one who bought 17 orders every year, which seems incorrect. Do you think the calculated field should be modified like this: {FIXED [Customer ID], [Year Order Date]: COUNTD([OrderID])}?
@zeeshanahmed97193 ай бұрын
"we have the same numbers for every year at the most frequent level (17, 13)" 13 7 17 1 consider 13 first: For this row grand total is 7, it means there are 7 distinct customers each ordered through 13 distinct order IDs. and for every year countd(customerID) is 7, means all these 7 customers ordered in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Similarly for 17 1.

I understood everything explained in the video except @ 30:00 in the acquisition trend chart, I got the same chart, but when I changed week (First order date fixed) to day(First order date fixed) to check the counts manually on Excel sheet, I see difference in the way in which countd(customer_id) and count(customer_Id) is calculated. countd(customer_id) calculation is intuitive and it counts distinct customer_id on that particular date only. whereas, in count(customer_id) calculation it counts all rows of that customer_id including the particular date as well as other dates. Please explain why count(customer_id) counting rows of customer_Id for other dates also?

(11:43) Why we cannot use Cohort-Fixed = {FIXED [Customer ID]: MIN([Order Date])} ? The result is the same as shown in this video
@sqlbelle9 ай бұрын
Thanks. The result is slightly different, and may affect other use cases. MIN([Order Date]) returns an exact date field. May not be obvious when you drag this because Tableau rolls up to YEAR right away. MIN(YEAR([Order Date])) returns an integer. In the specific use case in the video - may not matter since we are just displaying. For other calculations, it will.

8:10, why does each column and row add up not the equal to the grand total? I don't understand the quick explanation in the video. Thanks.
@sqlbelle2 жыл бұрын
Hello. Because the number is not additive. For example, if you bought 5x in 2018, and in 2019, and in 2020 as well as 2021 ... you wont be counted as 4x in the grand total because you are still just one, unique, distinct customer.

@@sqlbelle Hi Belle, than you, I got it!
@shashankworldpeace3 жыл бұрын
As usual good explanation. I have one point here regarding Case 3 i.e. profitable vs unprofitable. Instead of creating 2 calculated fields - one for LOD and other for conditional grouping based on LOD, we can directly create single field where LOD and condition for profit can be used. IF { FIXED [Order Date]: SUM([Profit]) > 0 } THEN 'Profitable' ELSE 'Not Profitable' END I have checked the result and got the same viz as u created. Are there any problems or drawbacks with my approach? pls highlight.
@sqlbelle3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Shashank. Some of the questions around nested calculations are around clarity, reusability and manageability. If you ever need to use the total profit per order date again in another view, it's better to put it in a different calculation. Otherwise you will have to embed this expression every time you need it. It will make it harder to update as well, in case it needs to change. For clarity and for teaching, and especially for folks who are new to LODs, it is easier to explain and understand if we break up the logic into simpler expressions first, rather than using a nested expression right away. For clarity when you are working with other members in your team, having separate expressions may be easier to understand as well. As with anything, everything is relative. There is no one right answer, and you have to go with what works with you and your team.
@shashankworldpeace3 жыл бұрын
@@sqlbelle Perfect! Makes sense. Also do you have any course where tableau is taught by you from the start to advance level? If not, what course do you recommend where uses cases are also taught well.
@zeeshanahmed97193 ай бұрын
In customer acquisition trend use case, countd(customer_id) at a given min(order date) can also include those customer_ids that placed its 2nd or 3rd order on that day. Example: On 1st March 2017 five customers placed order for the very first time, including HR-14770. Tableau showing countd(customer id)=5 On 2nd March 2017 two customers placed order for the very first time. countd(customer_id)= 2. Now I added a row for one more order of HR-14770 on 2nd March 2017. This count should not be included for 2nd March 2017 because this is not HR-14770's very first order and HR-14770 is not a new customer on 2nd March 2017. But after addition of this row, countd(customer_id) for 2nd March 2017 changed from 2 to 3.

Hey, great work. I have one doubt. When you talk about the acquisition of customers, why did you consider those customers which we already had on that day, why did we not exclude them? I mean old customers should be deducted first and then the running total should be calculated such that we can know how much have we gained each day cumulatively to get the trend. If there is a problem in my understanding or there is no need for it then plss correct me. okay okay, you have also done the same by using the fixed level of details where you have only selected the customer's first purchase only hence only new customers are getting captured. great got it now thanks!
