I have tried using an iPad Pro 10.5 as my main computer for school, but it just doesn't cut it. My Retina MacBook Pro 13" which in benchmarks is actually less powerful than my iPad, yet I am able to do much more due to macOS. There are a lot of great applications for iOS, but they are arguably watered-down versions of the desktop counterparts. File management is essential for productivity and iOS just isn't good at it due to its restrictive nature. You really have to go all out Apple in terms of products and services to make an iPad Pro your main computer. But if you are not a student nor a person who requires a laptop or desktop outside work, you'd honestly be better of with an iPad. For everyone else, a traditional "computer" is still where its at.

The huge problem for me to switch to tablets completely is the fact that you cannot open multiple files from same app like two words documents at the same time (you got the idea). If OS X will be able to do that. I definitely switch to.

This should have been a comparison between the Surface Pro (a tablet) vs the Surface Laptop. Comparing Apple tablet (which is more about entertainment, drawing, some video editing, and games) to a PC of any kind (which is more about productivity, documents, video editing drawing, and some games) does NOT work. The two OS serve two completely different types of users.

Yes! I want to see a comparison of the Surface Go VS the Surface Pro really. And that’s who is going to cut in on Apple’s former dominance in the design industry especially. An iPad Pro with a dinky selection of software (they just got ONLY Photoshop) VS having an array of sizes and price points in Surface’s full Windows OS with the ability to run all the Adobe Creative Suite and the detachable keyboard, pen, touch screen....is very intriguing. It’s starting to tempt me back to considering Windows to be honest. Though I do wish Apple would offer some competition to it being the industry is still very much in Apple mode plus iMessage doesn’t connect to Windows. Guess we will see. I do see a lot of designers having multiple devices though and picking up devices like the Go (shown at the end briefly) because of the ability to use all the apps on the fly as inspiration strikes (and lets face it, breaking or losing a $350-500 tablet hybrid VS a $2,500+ professional level Apple laptop well... yeah you can see why one would not want to travel around as much with it.)

The average tablet lover prefers the ipad and the average laptop lover prefers the surface, thats just how it happened to be at the time. --notice how i say "most popular" rather than "the best", thats bc I am not an expert in any of this--

One of the major key points many people forget to mention when comparing the two (or iPad vs tablet/laptop thing cuz I forgot the name) is that the iPad is made for your fingers as in it works great even without the need the need of a keyboard (with one it would enhance it) but with the tablet/laptop thing you are sort of forced to use it mostly as a laptop because the software isn’t as focused on the actual touch part. You could use an iPad without a keyboard perfectly fine but it’s really hard to use the tablet/laptop without a keyboard.

For viewing-only purposes the tablet/iPad lines (+/- Pro) works just fine. Anything involving editing, tablet/iPad is a no no. BUUUT there's Microsoft Surface, so that's the perfect hybrid.

I myself use an iPad Pro as my everyday computer. It's a 2015 12.9-inch model and it still handles bigger tasks with great ease and at pretty fast speeds. Would only borrow my sister's MacBook Pro for video editing or professional digital design. For creating and editing websites right on their servers I use Textastic. For creating and editing vector images I use Autodesk's Graphic. For interior design and floor planning I use Planner 5D. For web code inspection I use HttpFlow. For converting image files, including raster images into vectors I use Image Convert. For downloading svg format files, audio files and others from the web I use Aloha. For editing the date and time of images from the Photos app I use Metadata Pro. For word processing I use Pages. For creating and editing slide presentations I use Keynote. For all accounts I use Calculator Pro which works great in split view or slide over, occupying 1/3 of the screen. For watching movies and TV shows I use Netflix. And I'm still yet to try Shapr3D for creating and editing professional 3D CAD projects. By the way, most of this apps also have an iPhone version. A lot of them full-featured, some not. I hope both Apple and third party developers work fast towards releasing mobile versions of their desktop apps, just like Affinity did with Affinity Photo. Looking forward for a full-featured iMovie just like on the Mac. Final Cut Pro would obviously be great for video editing on the iPad but I’m not counting on it for the near future. It would also be great work if Sketch creators released a mobile version of their professional digital design app, even thought Affinity Designer is coming soon. When that happens I believe I won't ever feel the need to use a desktop operating system again.

There is no VS. And I don't care about branding. A full OS will always be better against a mobile OS. Be it games, professional work or even internet. Now, if your only use is youtube and social media and you dont care about "mobile pages" on the internet then OK you can prefer a tablet. For every other use, laptop wins.

I watched this when it first came out because I was hoping a new iPad would help me replace my headache of a Windows laptop. Bought one and have been enjoying it til this day. The only thing is, I still need my laptop to organize my iTunes which is a pain because it’s slow as hell. I do not want to spend even more money on getting a Macbook just for that.If only this iPad could have its on iTunes library and store terabytes of memory I’d say to hell with laptops completely, but that’s only because I don’t do too much office work anymore.
