I want to know more about how far away should be relative to the size of the object to be a small light source You are my enlightenment teacher

A light source can be regarded as a point light if it is more than 5 x the diameter of the light source away from the subject.

When you went to the green gel, it looks like "banding" started to show up. Or is that how your monitor rendered the scene and would not be on a print??

I think that is a function of the video compression as it is not visible on the original.

Late to the party, but how are you able to focus an 85mm lens so close up? Its minimum focusing distance is over 3 ft., yet it appears to be much closer to the needle than that?

I use an extension ring to move the lens further away from the sensor so that the lens is able to focus closer. It is demonstrated in the video. Thanks for watching.
