Can someone please let tablo know that the band playing as the ship went down actually happened. The most documented song that they apparently played as the ship was going down was 'nearer my god to thee' Just a little history fact from your friendly neighbourhood historian

My crying moment was definitely "Sorry I couldn't build you a stronger ship, young Rose" by the architect of the ship. And the captain choosing to stay inside and the water gushing in through the broken windows... As an architect myself, it broke my heart.

*Titanic nerd has entered the chat* The band was asked by the Captain to play some music when the ship first hit the ice, to keep people's spirits up and entertain the small amount of first class passengers who came out on deck, and were only a little nervous about the entire situation at first. The band was offered a spot on a boat (or told they could try to find one) I believe, and they declined. They played through the night because they had accepted that they were going to die and one of the last songs people recall hearing from them is Nearer My God to Thee, a religious piece. The wealth gap is obvious because that is exactly how it was in Industrial Age America and Britain, the "Gilded Age", and a time of great extravagance where you would basically wear your wealth. Famous houses of fashion were being formed and the latest styles from France and England were bought by the social elites before leaving on the Titanic or others probably ordered their upcoming season wardrobes and formal wear for events such as debutante balls, weddings, races, courting, ball gowns, etc., house of Worth was a sought after designer in that time, for example. While most of the work in America was dangerous and underpaying, it was very possible around that time to get work with a printing company to write or illustrate. Jack could have been a freelancer, or work with a publishing group, but a career in the arts or in journalism wasn't seen as respectful as say, inheriting a family business and continuing to expand on it (that was how you could better ensure your family would move past being "New Money") and show people your family can be successful, so it wasn't just luck getting "into the club". Because the rich were SO rich the immigrants on the ship, by comparison looked like they were from Newsies, because that is a show based off of the strike of newspaper carriers around 1908 (I believe) in protest for better work conditions, restricting the amount of child labor, and so on. Many of the immigrants coming to America at that time were either from South-East Europe, or Ireland/, hence a soundtrack song (by Nordsee) called "An Irish Party in Third Class" for when they are drinking below deck. Some of my relatives actually immigrated before/around that time to America and it was common for groups of people to just work past the language barriers (as English wasn't "the Home" language for most) to socialize and find solace in others. Especially if they were of Irish, Italian, Eurasian, Asian, African, Hispanic, etc., descent. So basically, anyone who wasn't white and Protestant (and rich). The differences are stark because of that, even though it may seem fake nowadays, it is the most accurate depiction for a film like Titanic, which was praised for it's attention to detail on things such as costuming and mannerisms for all three "classes". /Ted-ed talk over. Sorry... Lol. Love your videos! :D

IMO the issues are Cal’s character development/lack there of, and more backstory on the financial issues from Rose’s Father after he died. Cal is literally just an abusive and over controlling rich guy. But I want to know WHY he is like that, not just because they needed an antagonistic fiancé. Plus, Rose’s Mom could have remarried herself and in turn get a considerable amount of wealth from that alone, so it wasn’t really life or death on Rose to marry SO well beyond love or even some sort of happiness. They could’ve done a Vanderbilt-type of story where the Mom was so obsessed on getting into the old money families, but that would have changed the story significantly with Rose and her Mother (Ruth) being seen as outside the innermost circles, instead of showing new money as Ms. Brown. 🙃

Fun fact is the people who were playing the final song on the boat in the movie were based off what actually happened. They(ones in the movie) also played the last piece the orchestra (in 1912) played when the ship sank. So that scene when they're playing is one of the most accurate things in the movie

I'm surprised he didn't mention the ending scene, where Jack dies cause of the ,,lack of space" on the ship door. That was the one thing I will never live down with this movie. Tbh, none of the scenes with Jack and Rose made me cry. I cried harder thinking about the ship crew that lost their lives, or the passengers (the old married couple on the bed).

The part that got to me in TItanic was when the guy shot himself. Been ages since I last watched it, but he was a guy who was just doing what the though was right and effed up real bad. I felt that.
@amydraycott8174 жыл бұрын
It's actually documented that at least one crew member shot themselves but with so many deaths we actually don't know who it was, the family of the guy in the film actually were really offended that James Cameron portrayed him as killing himself. I'm sure a lot of people opted to kill themselves over drowning/dying of hypothermia, particularly 3rd class or men. A little fact, men who survived the titanic were actually treated poorly from society because they survived while women and children died
@monstacookiee47754 жыл бұрын
Your friendly neighbourhood historian wow I’m not surprised but it’s a little crazy how their treatment it’s kind of like saying to someone you should have died while someone should have lived.
