Gladius is the roman sword, each legionary would have 2 pilum and would throw at the start of the battle. Unless it’s early roman velites. *Please like so baron can see this, also baron if you want I can list you the equipment of a legionary* Ummm no a legionary is an average soldier, centurion controlled a century (100 men but 20 of them were non combatants), a legatus or legate controlled a legion. And a legion was numbered around 6,000 men (of course this includes the non combatants). So the lowest group is a contubernium, this included 8 soldiers and 2 non combatants, they’d choose a Decanus who was a bit like their leader, they’d distribute roles share a tent and form a brotherhood of sorts. Next a Century (by the way the letter c is pronounced k in Latin), this numbered 100 men or 10 contubernium, a signifier (standard bearer), optio (second in command, tessusarius (the commander of the watch), and of course the centurion. 6 centuries make up a cohort, 10 cohorts make up a legion, a legion also had a cavalry unit of 120 riders called the equitis legionis. The aquilifer was the man who held up the eagle banner or other specific legion banner, cohorts were numbered 1-10, first being full of double centuries. The double centuries of the first cohort numbered 5, and they were commanded by primi ordines, the highest ranking was primus pilus, he can be promoted to praefectus castrorum (logistics of the camps). 7 men are above the primus pilus, the 5 tribuni angusticlavii, tribunus laticlavius and of course the legatus who is also a member of the senate.

elli Seeley Yes? I spelt it how the ancient Greeks would. “Macedonia” is how the Romans spelt it in Classical Latin. and how we spell it, at least in English., dunno about other languages. Cataphract for example, would be Kataphractii though that may be more of a Greco-Roman spelling. Don’t know how the ancient Greeks did plurals.

The Roman main sword was called a gladius while their daggers were called a pugio. Ranged projectiles are pilum or pila for plural. The Lorica Segmentata for their armor.

Pylum's were weak in their build for the sole purpose of after being thrown they would bend their tips completely so they couldn't be picked up by the enemies and thrown back at them. :D Keep up the good work Baron!

Extra info a 8 men plus 2 slaves was called a contubernium then 10 contuberniums was called a century which equal 80 men plus 20 slaves. This was lead by a centurion, 2nd in command optio than a tesserarius than a signifier. 6 centuries make a cohort which is lead by the most senior centurion. 1st cohort is at double strength meaning each century in the 1st cohort have 160 men. This is led by the primus pilusi the most senior centurion out of all. Then 10 cohorts equal a legion. A legion supposedly had around 5000 men but were usually under 5000 men. A legion was lead by a Legate and had its own Aquilifer which was the holder of the Eagle (the standard for the Roman military). Some extra info for u Baron

In history the romans defeated the Macedonians and Achaean League (Athens and Sparta) and that not every game or mod can accurately represent this fact usually because Spartan Bias. SPARTAN BIAS, PEOPLE! P.S when the romans and Greeks fought the time had come where most armies abandoned the traditional hoplite phalanx for the phalangite pike formation. Still it is awesome to have theses factions in the game.

The Spartans don't use ranged weapons because they think it is cowerdly. If a Spartan was hit and fatally wounded that would consider to have a dissonrable death. The Spartans did have ranged troops but they were often sent to help another Greek islands battle.

I wonder how a normal arrow can pierce ancient Roman Armour, the best armour in the ancient world and the armour of one of the most powerful ancient troops, the legionaries, the unstoppable Roman troops. But we all now army’s are not invincible and eventually get beaten. Although I would disagree that a regular arrow could go through Roman armour and kill a legionare, but it maybe could break the helmet but I disagree also as it was kinda designed to protect the troops from arrows, and spears maybe. But that is kind of debatable...
