We have lots of Diamond Wool pads, they're the best bang for the buck. My husband has a few Classic Equine zone pads for in the arena. Beautiful and works well with the zoombang inserts about the same $ as 5 star but so worth it.

He didn't say say "felt" is a problem. He said synthetics can be a problem (gel, neoprene etc). Felt isn't a fiber. Felting is a process by which wool or synthetic fibers are smushed together. Now, he does like the Classic Equine wool top pad which has a layer of "orthopedic felt" next to the horse. It's a wool blend, but he doesn't say what the blend is, it could be wool/cotton or wool/rayon or something else, so he's kind of contradicting himself here as far as wool purity is concerned LOL. But going back to your point, he doesn't advise against felt.

What do you think about impact gel pads?

I’m sure they have a purpose in the arena and show ring. But I only use wool or sometimes a synthetic wool.
