Boy, do I remember when this was on MTV. 1982 or thereabouts-I was crazy about that song! (I think I was the only one.) I always remember that one of the VJs remarked that "Taco" in Japanese means "octopus". So weird the things we remember. I also still remember all 23 helping verbs from 8th grade. No, I won't list them here. Great choice, kids! P.S. Seeing the video again after so long, I'm confident my interest was piqued by his resemblance to the immortal Tim Curry. That has to be it.

This song was originally written by Irving Berlin in 1927, and was the name of a movie released in 1930.

I will never forget this song. Granted, the visuals were re-done due to cultural changes, but the song will always have that charm and style!

Early MTV… lots of groups doing anything to have the videos published. Great time for music videos

I vividly remember this song being on the radio constantly. It was a niche hit at the time. Don’t know that I ever saw the video before? It seems to be more extended than the radio version. To me it’s kinda like the Macarena or Gangnam Style or Who Let the Dogs out…a weird song that catches on for some reason.

Definitely so wild. Would have gone viral on TikTok if it came out today!

Yes yes yes, my (late, rip) mother loved this song so much we bought her the album ( vinyl ofc) , I was only 11yo and yes I loved it too. We have a pretty morbid sense of humour in our family already so anything sounding tinsy bit ghostly just spurs us on, I carry that flag proudly until my days are over😂❤😅😚🧟♀️

You watched the American version of the music video. The original video had racial imagery (dancers in black face) thoughtout. So where you see multiples or mirrors or patterns it's covering them up. Though less offensive the video makes less sense and isn't as well edited. The history of the song is very interesting as well, the original lyrics were also racist, making fun of working class African Americans going out for a night on the town. Taco had some other good songs, for instance Chattanooga Choochoo and a few Even more sentimental.

You should devote a couple hours to "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" . . . . . It has become a cult classic with A LOT of famous people in it, BEFORE they became famous !

And the brief "blackface" in the original Taco video, is certainly unacceptable now. Back then, it was thought of as in keeping with the original era of the song when written.

Yeah it was a parody for the era of the original song.
