Also, they now make a 4 gallon/15 litre tank. Same style as the 5 gallon. Both the 4 & 5 gallon tanks come with rad guards.

The 15L TANK is specifically for the 450L and 450RL. I have one and I get about 300km to a tank full.

Why not just use a pule pump to lift fuel out of the wings like the Wr250r aftermarket tanks?
@madman4320003 жыл бұрын
Just pop the front end up ala a pivot turn and let it drain to the feed well.
@lanceg.84583 жыл бұрын
Cool video. Crazy how the fuel migrates up into the hopper! Would not have guessed that. My old XR650R with the Clarke tank would take 4 tip-over-to-the-bars, dirt or street, and you were done.

Useful video! I would be concerned about all that extra weight in the front. My 06 525 XC has the same tank design but it’s much smaller. You can feel the front end dive down under heavy braking.
@kentalanlee3 жыл бұрын
Gasoline weighs about 6 lbs. per gallon. At 3.3 gallons more than stock, that's just 20 lbs. Which is negligible, considering differences in the weight of various riders for whom the suspension is designed. If you are concerned about dive, you can put heavier springs in the forks, and/or use pneumatic forks.

@@kentalanlee Suspension could definitely be a big factor. Never have I properly setup or tuned the front/rear shocks my 15 year bike. Might be about time!

John T Young did a good video on this too (the 450L guys will know who that is) as a secondary reference point. Getting up on a steep hill gets things down to a 1-2 liters left, which is the maximum he could get from the tank.
@Idahoshepherds834402 жыл бұрын
And also he states rolling on the throttle to bring the fuel up to the pump

I wonder if a feed tube from the center well with a T going down both wings would allow the pump to pull all the fuel without the necessity of sloshing or tipping the bike on it's side. I can't see how the pump draws it load but would love to play with one if I had a 450 L.
@hibob841 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. You'd just have to figure out filter(s); either one in each 'wing' or a single one inline.
@gt75002 жыл бұрын
Check out Nomad Tanks website for more tips. Nomad says to do an abrupt off/on throttle blip. He figured that you'd get half a litre pushed up into the fuel pump area doing this. Off road or on gravel, I'd think that it'd be easy to pull up a steep incline to move the fuel or do the on\off blip.

I haven't read though all the comments at all, but my 990 Adventure pulls from a t-line that connects both tanks from the bottom. Can't we do the same thing for all of these "oversized" but portionally useless oversized tanks?

That’s fine for dirt riding but I wouldn’t fancy the stalling on a main road with maybe 3-4 litres remaining. It wouldn’t be safe to have to swerve between your lane and the shoulder to keep the bike going. They could have made it a 16 l tank and nearly all would be usable.
@TACOMOTOCO3 жыл бұрын
The mfg claims that if you accelerate hard it will push fuel back from the wings into the pump ‘bowl’. We didn’t test this as we found out about it after our run but will try it and describe results in future videos
