HH book series confirms Lion was loyal to the imperium. He basically is told that in the future people will question his legions loyalty, to which he replies loyalty is its own reward. I know you probably know this just wanted to say as some people think it’s still vague but it’s not he’s straight up loyal.

Or at least pretended to be. I mean logar literally worshipped the man he turned against. Horus was the favorite son, closet to his father. So it was a period where loyalty didn't always hold no matter the bond. Where those thought the most loyal , grand, and honored turned against all of that.

Neiasaurus Creations I agree but I think with the lion he’s so closed off but if he states something he means it. There’s no falseness and in master of mankind when malcador questions the lion the emperor doesn’t doubt him for a second. He’s too true to his word, hence the black knight theme he’s got going on. There’s no pretence or pretend he’s loyal where as Horus always had doubts and misgivings about his relationship with the emperor and the razing on Monarchia broke Lorgar. It’s interesting though but I like how the old lore is reckoned as just the imperium not knowing it’s true history! Though it will be interesting to see what happens to the lion during the Siege of Terra, maybe there is some unknown the lion is doing to aid the loyalists that is forgotten about by the loyalists? Time will tell.

@@chrisspink8873 I think it may be both. He might've hesitated for just a moment, trying to take stalk in the situation. Much like the white scar did. I imagine seeing your family in a civil war might cause you to scratch your head for just a moment. And with the way warp travel works that might've also been why he arrived late.

I agree with you about the Lion - he remained loyal. His main issue was that he didn't let his inner circle know his thoughts, plans, or motives. Luthor only took the task of training Legion recruits as a punishment because he was looking at only recent events at Sarosh. Prior to the Sarosh Campaign, the Legion lost 50,000 men in the Rangdan Xenocide and needed more men to continue to operate in the Great Crusade. Prior to that Crusade, the Dark Angels were the largest Legion. That said, Luthor was expected to train nearly 25% of the Legion and based on the men assigned, it was going to be taught by terrans over calabanites.

As a matter of fact the Lion and the first legion were the first to make a move against Horus out of all the Legions (aside from the loyalists within the Sons of Horus, Death Gaurd, Emperors Children, and World Eaters). The moment the knowledge was made known that Horus had turned traitor the Lion acted. In the HH novel Fallen Angels, the Lion moves to secure siege weapons within 48 hours of hearing news of Horus' betrayal. The massacre at Istvaan hadn't even happened yet because Perturabo was still thought to be loyal and was on his way to "help" the Raven Gaurd, Iron Hands, and Salamanders. The Lion thinking he was loyal gave in the weapons he had just kept out of Horus' hands to the Iron Warriors so they could use them against Horus. Little did he know.. The reason the Lion went for that siege equipment was because he (and everyone else) knew that in order for Horus to win he had to kill the Emperor. In order to kill the Emperor the Imperial Palace had to fall, and there was no way Terra could fall without these specialized siege weapons. Anyway the fight brought the 1st into open conflict with elements of Horus' fleet and some of his veteran legionnaires. Upon offering them up to Perturabo he said make sure you put them to good use (against Horus). So aside from the original traitor legions massacring the loyalists within, the very first opening engagement of the HH was the Lion and the 1st vs the Sons of Horus. Within hours of hearing news of Horus' betrayal the Lion had a plan to ultimately defeat him, and within 48 he and a handful of his legion were on their way to make it happen. Also, in the novel Ruinstorm we learn that it was the ruinstorm that kept the Lion and Guilliman from getting to Terra on time, but it was also Lion El'Jonson that pointed out that Curzes precognition's must prove the Emperor is still alive and that He, Guilliman, and Sanguinious need to get to Terra pronto. (Previous to this they were building up Imperium Secundus thinking the Emperor must be dead) Previous to the HH novels a lot of this was up in the air and nebulous, but as they come out they ironically show that the Lion was not only 100% he might even have been the most loyal. Kairos Fateweaver tried to tempt the Lion and quickly gave up when he realized that there was literally zero chance of Lion turning. Even the Emperor was surprised when Malcador said he was unsure of the Lions loyalties because to the Emperor there was no way the Lion would turn against him.

In the video, we have to be careful about our time frames, Luther was on a consistent, long-range deterioration away from his loyalty to the Lion and toward being open to chaos influence, particularly when the real Lord Cipher was caught by Zahariel and his fellow seduced librarians. Maria Astellan was very certainly a chapter master before Caliban. He had a special psychic protection crafted by the Emperor himself as some great sacrifice and effort by the Emperor. He waxed on and on about the legion BEFORE the Lion and when it was just the Emperor and his angels of death, before the were legions, when the were only those of the 1st genetic shock of the Lion. Luther was never pro-Imperium and Emperor. He was pro-Caliban, pre-Order, and for a time, pro-Lion. To go along with that, Luther's followers were almost all appealed to on the basis of there pro-Caliban position, as opposed to a loyalty to Terra. Astellan was one of the rare exceptions. Also, where does this concept of Zahariel being the Lord Cypher come from? Zahariel was a powerful psyker that was seduced and largely possessed by the power of the chaos entity known as the Oroberous. The modern Lord Cypher has not reflected any of those inclinations. He also did not use any such powers when they would have clearly benefited him. Fallen Dark Angels were either traitors to the Imperium, traitors to Terra, and/or traitors to the Lion. There really isn't any other way to contrive their loyalty. They ALL forsook their oaths, they allied with Chaos powers, they seceded from the Imperium. They were tricked, they were had, it's a sad thing, but they were wrong.

King Baldwin IV They knew what they were doing in joining chaos I remember reading in a book where a dark angel under luther working with death guard discovered that typhon was actively recieving nurgles gifts and would go pychotic in a murder rage believing he must destroy this taint asap before it spreads further.

because The Lion is so shite with people my head cannon is that The Lion sent Luther and the other Dark Angels (who have already fought warp entities) back to Caliban to not "oversee recruitment" but to keep Caliban alive (because Luther was right, if it became known that the planet itself was corrupted the only outcome would be Exterminatus). The only problem with his plan was that The Lion being shite with people didn't tell Luther or the other Dark Angels any of this.

Space Marines reflect there primarch. If they split then it's a flaw of the primarch. Dont get me wrong, every choas chapter had loyalist during the heresy. Just never lived long enough to see it.
