klopp really adapted his tactic to fit in nunez, there were more through balls for nunez to run into, and crosses for him. also, hendo seems playing more aggresively than usual, his interception was really on point, thiago as usual calm and key to the build up. trent x salah, and adrian, man what kind of dark magic did klopp pulled of. also, haaland really needs to practice his headers, he can't count on his left foot all the time when it comes to mid to high crosses

Haaland was making good runs today like good 9’s do but city were still playing like they had a false 9 on the pitch, fvcking play that through pass KDB!, also wingers always cutting back to midfield when there is a 6 ft 5 guy waiting to get on the end of crosses or balls squared across the 6 yard box. He’s also fast and strong, city can’t be sleeping on this advantages. The opposite was the case for Liverpool and Darwin, Darwin kept getting those through balls and crosses. Haaland still needs to work on his pressing tho and his determination to win back possession.

Adrian's outlet passing was his weak point, resulting in many turnovers which ultimately contributed to MC's higher xG. Alisson in this scenario would not only provide better distribution from the back, but would also provide a longer threat to the wider Diaz & Mo.
@ComradeOgilvy1984
@ComradeOgilvy1984 Жыл бұрын
IMO a high press with a 442 against Allison would be foolish. VVD and Becker have a superb passing range. TAA is very good at receiving under pressure (so Matip's lesser passing range is less of an issue). They will find the line breaking pass and leave 4-5 players in the dust, over and over again. Letting Fabinho drop and receive to then carry the ball into the opposition half ends up being the least bad result. It is not a terrible idea against Adrian, who might gift a ball to an attacking midfielder like Kevin.

Really liking this new format. I watched their (LFC-CITY) last Community Shield game from 2019 a week ago and compared to this, Liverpool were now much more confident. Henderson was making forward runs to support the front 3. Back in '19 their mid's were slightly more defensive, Hendo/Gini were trying to double team Trent. Because of very little space in the middle, City were mostly attacking from wide.

I'm very surprised to see this from Pep. To me it looks like he has an idea that he wants to defend in a 4-4-2, but was testing whether it would work against Liverpool. But a 4-4-2 will never properly defend Liverpool's style of play. I thought the Reds looked comfortable in possession, albeit with the CBs splitting much wider than usual, but for the most part they played the game they play in possession. In fact the only adaptation I saw from Liverpool that you don't see against a team like Wolves or Newcastle or Leicester is that the wingers were for the most part extremely disciplined in defense and Liverpool played a mid block rather than their "typical" gegenpress. Defensively it almost looked like they had switched teams! City were much more aggressive in the press than Liverpool. I also noticed that both Liverpool fullbacks seemed to be playing as pseudo-strikers at points today, there were times Robertson was sitting where Mane used to sit when the ball was with Thiago/Fabinho. You would think that is something teams picked up on. We all saw in the CL final that it takes one moment where both fullbacks are caught out to score. It seems interesting that Klopp seems to be even more attacking with the fullbacks than he was last year. The reason the 4-4-2 doesn't work against Liverpool is because you will always be outnumbered in an area pressing with two. If you bring the wingers in to even up the center, you leave Trent and Salah or Robertson and Diaz 2 v 1 outside, and I don't think any team in the world wants those 2 v 1s against them. If you keep the wingers wide to defend that, Thiago or Fabinho will dictate the play centrally, which is very dangerous- if the other team plays a high line, that is. Liverpool's only struggle is attacking good low blocks, and I think against Chelsea last year that was apparent. Part of that as well is playing a back 3/5, as there's a bit more wide cover that allows a team to use wingers to congest the middle and fullbacks/wide centre backs to defend the wide areas. I didn't think Nunez made as much difference as the scoreline seemed to show. He was looking for the run behind, and Liverpool started looking for that as they should, yes. You could argue that City changed how they defended a little to accommodate this. But I thought it was clear watching Ake that City had planned for this, and Nunez only had a few 1 v 1 looks. Whenever the ball was played to someone near Nunez (I'm thinking particularly one where Trent had the ball), everyone in the stadium knew he was looking to go in behind and that Trent's only good forward option was Nunez. Ake moved as the ball was hit to the space where the through ball would have to go, and made an easy interception. If, say, Harry Kane of 3 years ago was in Nunez's position there, I think Ake gets beat because Kane could have gone in behind or dropped to space, and Ake couldn't have anticipated which he was going to do. Like I said earlier, City changed how they defended, from defending the 9 dropping, to defending the 9 in behind. I think for Nunez to be a lasting threat he has to be able to do both and keep opponents guessing. On Ake, you could see he was a pressing trigger throughout the game. Liverpool singled him out in possession and he gave the ball away quite a lot because of this. It was interesting to see such a clear trigger in a game like this!

@@johndagadu7777 442 as a high press formation is poor. VVD (and Allison) has such a good passing range, and Trent is very skilled at receiving under pressure (so Matip's lesser passing range matters less). Liverpool will find the line breaking pass and leave 4-5 of your outfield players in the dust. As a low block or perhaps even a mid-press, yes, I would recommend 442.

I honestly doubt that whole "as usual, Pep was looking to adapt.." Like does he have 99 secret hand signs where he constantly changes the tactics in fine detail. Hand signs all his players know and see every 5 minutes? I don't see him doing that or his captain constantly being on the sideline and then spreading the update through the crew. I think whatever changes Guardiola made to the setup apart from bringing on new players were less like this video makes it out. Less online updating, coarser, and probably not like this either. Nice analysis and good confidence in delivery, but I think both coaches would wrinkle their foreheads over this.

Haaland may need to work HARD on his aerial, (heading) abilities, touch, RIGHT SIDE (Right foot) to make his game complete IMO but sure Pep knew all that before they signed him on a 5 year deal. Haaland is going to win a golden boot...eventually, but I would bet big against that this season. He is an unfinished product(!) that is likely to improve under Pep. In the short term, I think Darrin is going prove the better transfer, because he slots right in as someone who will win the ball in the air receiving Trent and Andy's crosses, when the opposition parks the bus.

Liverpool will thrive under a team who just defends with 10 men. So the haaland not pressing system doesn’t work. It was shown in this game. Leave matip with too much space and he will be on the half way line with the ball in seconds 🦒. I was really happy to see how calm and experienced both the Cb’s were considering they had technically the third choice keeper in behind them. Saying that I thought Adrian’s over all floor play with the ball was outstanding and make the team able to play so forward footed. How many teams have that ability from a third choice keeper to play football and not just booting it long?

Early days but from a Liverpool perspective, some good positives. The speed of Diaz! He destroyed Walker twice. Walker is one of the fastest defenders there's ever been in the premier league. Obviously Nunez. He still needs to learn our tactics. When to run, when to hold. When he makes runs, he'll take defenders with him leaving space for another attacker to creep in unopposed. Adrian's distribtion is extremely poor. Allison can find a team mate under pressure. Adrian kicked it out of play on virtually every occasion. But nobody is really worried, whether you've won or lost. It's just banter rights. Making someone favourite from just one game before everyone is fully fit is just nonsense.

I kinda feel the need to defend Adrian here. Adrians best qualities are: accepting playing 3rd fiddle, of generally decent to good enough quality, the team mostly knows how to compensate for his weaknesses and usually remembers to do just that. He's doing a reliably decent job for us when he needs to, and doesn't cause problems otherwise.

Jurgen klopp has adapted the new tactic that acquired from carlo ancelotti. This tactic was very similiar, if it was compared. When, real madrid was beating them in the final 2022. Ultimately, the things can make Jurgen klopp learn from his match. As well, this team was adjusted to Darwin nunez role. We could see many chances for liverpool in the after half time. When, he got in to team. They created many empty spaces. So that, moh salah can easily move through man city defender. Finally, he involved two goals. first, he converted penalty into goal from ruben diaz handball due to darwin nunez header. Second, he crossed the ball into robertson. Then, his header has great impact to nunez goal. That was fascinated game in the opening new season. Klopp and Guardiola was just begun with new player in this new season. I am not patiently see them in premier league. Even though, they give such a dazzle game in the community shield 2022.

2 WORLD CLASS MANAGERS having a TACTICAL WAR with eachother was absolutely brilliant to see.But KLOPP coming out on top out witting PEP And then we had the battle between HAALAND and NUNEZ with NUNEZ coming on as SUB changed the game when he come on with getting the penalty and scoring...

Klopp used Oxlade-Chamberlain a number of seasons back to beat City's press, I think he had to fight physical duels with Mendy and if he'd win those Liverpool was nigh on man-to-man in attack. Which is a bad situation to be in against Salah, Firmino and Mane. I'm imagining something similar will happen with Nunez. City has the capacity to lock down Liverpool at least for parts of a match. Then the long ball to Nunez should come into play who should be a physical match for any of their defenders.

We were the weaker squad on the day. Liverpool...[still smarting after the P.L. loss]...were far...far stronger. They constantly smothered the passage-of-play between De Bryune & Haaland [which would've been the idea]....Their counter and attacking style frustrated and basically ran rings round the team. It appears losing Mane hasn't affected Liverpool one iota....

Sad to say Liverpool didn't put their best foot forward. But neither did Manchester City. Great tactical analysis, and there was a particular reason why Guardiola didn't compromise in the centre mid region. He knows what Thiago could do! Salah wasn't his real self. He still needs some warming up it seems. And it will be worth watching how the two top teams play with a proper number 9 on their ranks.

Salah did not need to run all the time...to be his real self. He was playmaking more when we were playing with an outright striker in Nunez. You can see Mo being his usual attacking forward when Bobby was cf before Nunez was sub in. They played this formation switcheroo since the preseason..... Robbo was running up and down on the left because manC concentrated on defending and ensuring our right flanks (aka trent and mo) had no or little chance to create shots or move inwards. First half cancelo and graelish as stated in the video were man marking Mo and Trent...leaving Nunez and Robbo freer. After the Nunez sub, Ake was left to man mark Mo alone and he kept passing the ball to Ederson whenever Mo move alittle closer.
