My biggest takeaway is that Comps are most effective for quick follow up shots. If you are not shooting 2X faster than 1/2 second splits then you are not taking advantage of the comp. So before I get a comp pistol I would be better served by purchasing a shot timer and more ammo to increase my skill at speed with accuracy.

PLEASE produce more no-BS content like this. After diving into USPSA over the past year, I’ve witnessed the firearm industry trends and new “hotness” absolutely crap the bed in practical application. Information like this saves new inexperienced gun owners money and time from the flashy garbage big guntoobers push for that sweet sweet check.

I can't speak for other GunTubers, but David (THM) has been very good about giving you the facts about each gun he reviews. He answers questions about how the gun can be expected to work practically in shooting sports or where the manufacturers made questionable choices with what they include for the price. If the audience wants more honest takes, we will provide them. I do, however, wonder why we're accused of shilling for Sig or bashing Smith when they are both held accountable in this video. Maybe I'm not meant to understand. I'm glad you liked the video. 🫡

@@GunClubRadio FCG has low grade metals the springs are also fairly brittle and week. This fit of some of the components in the FCG causes binding. Everyone in concerned about the SIG pistols discharging when dropped or while in the holster when we had the opposite problem of keeping them firing. We had p226s that where dog tired but kept going. At first I thought that they needed to be fired more for break in period. But after seeing more components fail after 500-1000 rounds we realized they are the dodge neon of pistols. Hopefully with the newer models they have everything worked out.

The thing is the 365 Legion doesn’t actually have a compensator. It’s a ported slide only, which happens to have its ports on the top only and directly in front of the barrel. They call it a “slide integrated expansion chamber” but a lot of people just say compensator. Since the barrel isn’t ported, any issues you’re having really aren’t related to a compensator because it doesn’t have one. Understanding the behavior of gas, I don’t see how that particular element is contributing to a change in accuracy.

Wife bought me the metal full size carry comp. Got about 1500 rounds through it. Its been 100% and it shoots pretty good. Not as flat as my PDP with the HA comp, a brass backstrap, Trashcan, etc. Still, all this talk about purpose... who cares, it really seems silly to put all this emphasis on these factors when its not the arrow, its the Indian. I shoot all my guns side by side from time to time and have friends and sometimes new shooters out there... everyone who shot the new carry comp commented on how easy it was to shoot. These are people who cannot really explain themselves because they are simply not that experience, but they all agreed it shot well compared even to some of my competition guns that are all tricked out. A shadow 2 was better many said, but not by that much. If you are a competitor and want to min-max gear, you do you, but most of us are not. We are simply interested in these guns and some of us are easily swayed. Others, like me, are just bored watching to see if some new idea will spark joy or offer some training value. TL;DR, 10-100's of thousands of these guns will be sold and only a few hundred to thousands of people will EVER compete with them. This angle has limited interest to people like me....

Thats why the i never clean my glock guys like glocks and tend to stick with them though and they dont cost a grand out of the factory and they just work is it really that complicated? Also i think tuning the car is a poor comparison because you can buy a new luxury sports car which is also a highly complex mechanical machine but they do just work and they always have good customer service cause the car industry is held to a way higher standard where as gun companies burn themselves and other companies all the time like K USA, now they are out of buissness and no one even wants to buy them cause they were such a terrible company. Interesting video though, also I tend to always try and purchase the best price to performance with reliability and I have never bought a comped gun anyway just for reference. Still appreciate the effort into the discussion.

I think arguments for comps fall into two categories: Sig/PMM/S&W/Radian compromise the compensator design to work with most factory loads which lessens the effectiveness of the comp OR People are buying high performance compensators and aren’t taking the time to tune in what ammo and loads are giving them the most performance gain. Tbh I think the former, while compromised, still give you a decent enough performance gain as long as you have your fundamentals down. It just sucks that there’s no competitive space for those like Dave mentions. I dream about a “carry open” division in USPSA that allows guns of a certain weight/dimension that can have optics, comps and magwells shot from concealment.

At 7:00, DD had barrel issues unrelated to ammo. They were simply out of spec. The ammo was not magically so different that it could somehow engage the rifling on every other gun except DD. There is even evidence from multiple people that capture the fired bullets showing no sign of rifling engagement on the jacket.

Following proper science and knowing how bad science journalism is, the last thing I would do is assume some study about split times represents reality. Who are these folks measuring split times and what exactly does an average have to do with the self defense shooting I find myself in? Averages are gross figures. An incident is a discrete encounter. You do yourself a big disservice imagining one is the story that represents the other, no less not applying skepticism to a figure from such a publication. Be skeptical and train for competence, not to emulate some fiction, no less one produced by gross figures... This falls under, smart people using data in stupid ways.... Never paint yourself into a corner you cannot shoot your way out of...or something... ie, you end up tailoring your self defense strategy around an average, a gross figure imagining you will not need the extra control and speed a comp gives you, then you happen to be an outlier in the data needing that extra control and speed because the guy you put 2 shots in needed 3 to be stopped and he happened to get what was needed in you before that last shot landed... bla bla bla, arnt we all very smart? This is just another argument of the style, I want need an extra magazine because the average shots fired in an encounter is bla bla bla, total waste of brain cells here... Carry as much ammo as you can comfortably, period. All these ideas are pretty lame, IMHO.

"Probably not good for self defense", I mean.... most people shoot faster than they would otherwise in a self defense situation. I really don't think slowing down in training is the answer. But I also do not compete, I do however train with competitors so I end up training like them. IMHO, competence is competence is competence. Good enough is good enough and most self defense shooting happen from totally untrained folks. I am going to let the cards lay where they fall and not over-concern myself with what is optimal and just try to do better than I did last time at the range..

I have a ported Shadow 2. After shooting this thing a few thousand rounds I would never have a comped or ported carry gun. It’s super loud and the concussion is brutal in a stall. But the really bad thing is all the particles that go through the ports. If you ever have to use it in your car your eyes will be getting all of that debris.

There's an easy way to make a compensator work with all types of ammunition: Frame mount it instead of attaching it to the barrel or slide. Not only will it work with all ammo, but it will also not punish limp wristing, it'll work better if that's done... I just put a model specific frame mounted comp on my Prodigy and I love it.

@5:41 - you address the topic of limp wristing a compensated gun. FOR A DEFENSIVE HANDGUN, shouldn't it be able to tolerate limp wristing? It isn't just "dudes with compromised skill" - what if you are injured, involved in some sort of scuffle, etc.? Shouldn't you expect your defensive weapon to fire when you pull the trigger - no matter how well you're holding it?
@GunClubRadio
@GunClubRadio 26 күн бұрын
GREAT question. In my opinion. yes and no. There's a certain windows of expected performance. With the most reliable polymer striker-fire handguns, you can easily replicate malfunctions if you limp wrist. It seems that many comped designs will shrink the window. From what I've seen, that's due to the combination of recoil spring & slide cycle speed. If you want to avoid alllllll that. get a revolver. and even still, learn to shoot with both hands to beat potential injury.

I don't believe that the average split in defensive shooting is 0.50 at all. I've watched thousands of shootings. They're very consistently around 0.20 - 0.25 at around 3-5 yds, and get up to 0.30 and up as the target moves laterally, as the shooter moves, and as distance goes up. A position exit and entry will naturally kick the split time way up. I'd take a careful look at Force Science's methodology. It is very clearly misleading if you have a picture in your mind of people shooting at close range with 0.50 splits. There are tons of badge cam videos now where you can see for yourself that is not true.

23:57 Let's take all your splits together for any USPSA field course. Does it make ANY sense to average all them together and present that as your average split time? Take the classifier 23-02 "This could be the Greatest Night of Our Lives". There are at least 3 YT videos of people shooting it to M-class hit factor in just under 6 seconds. That's 12 shots in about 6 seconds. If I said, "according to my study, M-class USPSA shooters average splits of around 0.50", would that be accurate or misleading? That's what Force Science is doing with their figure on average split times in gunfights.
@zachpetzoldtshooting
@zachpetzoldtshooting Ай бұрын
I think averaging them all together is pretty misleading on something like this. If you think about the shooting as .50 splits is what you need then you won’t get it done in time for a good score. When I breakdown classifiers I figure out the time I need with reasonable hits and then deduct everything but the splits and transitions. On this one it would 6 secs minus 1 for the draw and 2 for the movement. That leaves 3 seconds or a .30 average for each split and transition following the draw and movement. So reality is that the shooting part needs to happen almost twice as fast as the average of all splits if the draw and movement aren’t considered differently.

This channel needs a cheat where the people who have adhd can also get to go right to the point or close enough because this is loosing me ? I bought the hellcat comp pro and this has me worried
@GunClubRadio
@GunClubRadio 29 күн бұрын
Here's the cheat code, change playback speed to 1.5 or 2x speed. I personally do this. I also included some chapter markers so you can jump around to the good parts. lastly, TLDR, there's nothing WRONG with comps, just aren't needed and are more prone to malfunctioning if you don't have proper grip. potentially, they aren't as effective they should be and aren't really worth the extra cash because a real comp system is tuned to the extremes. consumer comps are made to run mostly all ammo. Thanks for trying to watch the content

I'd say always run 100-250 rounds through it. If you can get outside and under a "shot timer", draw from concealment and put 6 shots on your target. If you can do it quickly and accurately without malfunctions, you're good to go. Just be sure to clean & lube it after that 250 rounds. Need to keep that slide running smoothly to avoid any question.

So I started in 2022 with a basic, non mos glock 45. Got good with irons, and sloppy glock stock trigger. Added maritime cups for some added reliability. When radiant came out with their fancy $400 barrel/comp combo, I was smitten, but knew comps do the exact opposite of what I want, which is LESS flash signature and less BANG!!! So, I knew suppression was the answer. Came across a deal on a threaded barrel and grabbed it. While saving for a suppressor I came across a deal on pmm’s duty comp and since I already had a threaded barrel, I figured I’d give it a whirl. It was exactly how I imagined, giant fireball in my sight path and loud as hell. Finally got the suppressor and comp sits in parts bin. Then sent my slide to be milled by battlewerx for an eps carry (mrs red) and it co witnesses with own height sights and is just above my Ecco canine suppressor. Looking at Johnny Glocks combat trigger system now and the Glock will be finished.

This guy is full of it. The MHS was chosen by price. Both Glock and sig met the accuracy requirements. The Sig came in 100 dollar less than Glock. They didn't even finish the reliability testing. Sig loses money with every the sell the army and they have to replace them when they wear out. They hoped winning the army contract would boost civilian sales and it did.
