You're a good man. I have yet to break a double digit bass. I know I lost a double digit in South GA a few years ago but I will continue to pursue one. You're story reminds me of when I was a kid. Snuck into a private golf course in Miami FL and fished the whole day in the rain with my friends, catching small bass here and there. right before leaving I decided to put on the last beat up black Culprit worm I had left. Casted a long shore and nothing...Made one last cast to where the drop off would be and felt the sudden bump of a fish. Set the hook and landed a 7lb large mouth. Held it in the water until one of my friends returned with a disposable camera to take pics of it. Great memories that you will never forget.

27x27 maybe the back half of her was 12lbs lol. Caught my first of many DD at the dam in lake Chabot Ca. She costs me $500.00 in fines and fees for trespassing and fishing in restricted water. We were foolish rebellious kids without a dime in our pockets. We parked at the golf course so we didn't have to pay an entry fee and slid down the steep hillside and got an insane case of poison oak and looked like burn victims. Took two hours in the dark to get back up the hill only to find that our car was locked behind the gate in the parking lot. By the time we were finally able to leave it was 4 a.m. and another fine was tacked on. Was it worth it at the time?? Oh hell yes it was!!! I am not proud of what we did many years ago and if my kids ever do that I'll kick their asses and then smile proudly knowing they inherited the bass fishing fever bug
@tacticalbassin7 жыл бұрын
Bwahahahahaha I love it!!! The sickness is real! We'd never condone it looking back... and you better believe we'll make a kid pay the fines... but we'll know exactly where they're coming from the whole time. :-)

Matt, I’ve been in a MISSION to catch my first double digit this year. I can relate heavily to the stage of life you were in when you caught that fish. Strictly a pond/bank fisherman, barely able to put fuel in my truck to get to spots. The other day I was slow rolling a bladed jig through deeper grass (at a pond that a 10.6lb had been caught) and had something stop my bait then just started swimming off with drag more steady then I’ve ever felt, straight down the shoreline. I had unfortunately cast up to a point and she took off right around it when my line hit the vegetation and popped it off. That feeling where it could have been a 3 with serious momentum or an absolute monster. It’s been haunting me for the past days since it happened. Listening to big bass story after big bass story, It makes me even more hungry to land my first monster. Thank you for sharing your stories.
@troycote4503 Жыл бұрын
Some of your old stories are so inspiring to go back and watch. We eliminate all the variables to make us better fisherman, but some of those first fish when we weren't as proficient we're some of my best memories. Yes, 6 to 6.5 rods 10 to 12 mono, is how I cut my teeth learning to fish. Merry Christmas to you and Tim. Hope you and your families have a wonderful Christmas ⛄!
@titangreer35017 жыл бұрын
a lot of people I fish with don't have the "fire" underneath their belts, the fish that changed their perspective on fishing or what gets you into it for life. I can tell from this video and the story alone, that was probably the fish that changed your life for fishing. I have yet to catch a double digit, but from all the species I have caught i.e. bass, steelhead, salmon, trout, walleye and others, I'm in it for life. loved the video, keep it up. you got the fire underneath your belt matt

Great story Matt! It seems like it always happens that way. My own largest bass and many others I've witnessed came from shore and were not exactly fishing trips but more like,"lets go take a few casts". Quick and dirty and never a scale or sometimes a camera as well. But that's why we fish I suppose. It can happen any minute.

I did find some open water today, and plan to get on it tomorrow when the temps rise a little. Sketchy weather here, but opportunities are out there. Thanks Caleb, I think you'll really like these videos... they're exactly what you're asking for. (Its a playlist of us breaking down new lakes) kzbin.info/aero/PLgykyPP_mr1cSiwfcK6NpoCMwoHWT6zkH and then if you just want to see big ones getting crushed try these... kzbin.info/aero/PLgykyPP_mr1fNeBK2fU6xjsqSOaO7bzex We will be doing a lot more of these. We walk a fine line where Matt works full time on Clearlake as a guide and when we film in person on those spots the boat traffic that arrives shortly after really impacts his ability to work effectively. But we still do it and we intend to travel and break down a lot of new lakes this year.
@calebmeek15097 жыл бұрын
TacticalBassin Awesome, thanks for the response. I'll definitely be checking out those videos!
@tacticalbassin7 жыл бұрын
Any time bud, thanks for supporting the channel. I think those videos are going to throw you for a loop... especially the 2nd link. But the first one is lake breakdowns like you were asking for. We fish a TON (Matt guides 5-6 days a week) but doesn't run camera on those trips... that's why you get the knowledge without necessarily seeing us on the water all the time.
