Great video guys! I still have one of the first STELLA'S that were available in the U.S. It's a 2002 STELLA FA 2500 (Originally made for Saltwater) that's not only as smooth as it was the day I purchased it, but as smooth as ANY spinning reel I own today. It has 15 BB, perfect line lay and casts as well as anything I own (And that's saying something).

thank you for laying out and explaining the Shimano lines differences. the 1st time I heard you guys talking about this, I did a Google search. the results were a couple boards (which I moved on from quickly) that thought you guys were nuts for thinking there were different lines within the company to a few that were just plain guesses. I finally did find a Shimano pamphlet online that showed the 2 different lines, but only had a couple of the U.S. reels on there and more of the JDM reels that I had never heard of. long story short...thanks again for the wonderfully detailed breakdown!!

The Daiwa's have a switch which allow you to reel backwards. If you are an amataur like me, and if you forget to set your drag correctly, it allows you to real backward if a big one makes a run Also, at the end of the day, when you're putting your lure in the hook keeper, you can adjust the length of the line more easily. Have Regal, Reveros, Exceller Sedona and Stradic

I've fished with both daiwa and shimano from low, medium, to high end. You guys hit it on point shimano power spinning reels are meant for baits with a consistent retrieve or for power baits, think crankbaits, swimbaits, tubes, and jigs. The finesse spinning reels from shimano are comparable to the daiwa reels. I will say at the high end, shimano reels do have a lighter more free rotation to them but the daiwas definitely have tighter tolerances to them.

I just let my girlfriend feel the difference between the new Vanford and Twinpower. She said the Vanford accelerates faster and is easier to stop halfway a handle turn, the TwinPower needs more power to get the handle turned but feels more comfortable and smoother while it is turning. She has never fished. Yes, the TP is mega smooth so not that comparable as Vanford VS Stradic but the essence is clear, the inertia and winding is different. Officially the Magnumlite starts at Miravel (MGL rotor) vs top of the line Vanquish and the Coresolid at Ultegra (Coresolid body) - Stella FK. Interesting to catagorize the less expensive ones in those two categories.

The main things I look for if I'm buying a new spinning reel is first off how many bearings does I have. It's not the absolute deal breaker but it sure helps. And the brand and if they've got decent reviews. I've got two Lews speed spools, I don't remember the exact model number. They're in the 50 to $60 range at Walmart. Been very happy with him. One of them is about 4 years old and the other one I just bought this past summer. They both feel identical on the water, the brand new one is obviously just a tiny bit smoother than the old one, but they've held up good. The other thing I've learned to look for is make sure it has a reverse switch. I bought a $60 pfluger trion I think it was, got it home pull up a package felt good looked good, and then notice for whatever reason they took the reverse switch off. I figured okay, I'll try it. Fish one afternoon with it and took it back to the store. That right there is an absolute deal breaker. If my daughter is using my pole and she wants me to change her lure, or rebate her hook it's a lot easier to say flip the little switch on the bottom and give me a little bit of line then it is to say flip the bail and give me all of it and then see how much comes out.

BFS may be growing, but there's a whole new niche of saltwater anglers that go for ultralight fishing. "Ajing" is what they call it. For ultralight saltwater fishing, spinning reels still reign supreme, particularly finesse spinning reels. Glad to see that this video shows the differences.

@Steve-ev6vx it's very rare to see saltwater anglers using baitcasters. There's also another niche market from Daiwa regarding shorecasting baitcaster reels. Something entirely different from your conventional multiplier reels.

I think it's because not everyone can purchase one. To be quite honest I run daiwa in the Salt and shimano for fresh. The Saltist MQ is a beast along with the BG and BG MQ. I’ve yet to pick up a tatula MQ, I hear they’re better than the BG MQ. To put it easily both companies are worth every penny at any price point.

Warning about the Miravel: I used it for inshore fishing out of my kayak and it got some salt water in it after sitting in bottom of my kayak while I fished with another rod. Left it overnight without rinsing it out-my boneheaded mistake-and reel got really geary and drag effed. Sent it to Shimano and they basically replaced the internals for $35 and good as new. So, 2 things: don’t use Miravel in the salt (duh, I know) and Shimano reel service never fails to impress me. Got a Daiwa Fuego (magsealed against water intrusion) and now that’s all I use inshore (well, Daiwa BG also, which is best bang-for-buck saltwater reel 5+ years running)

Specifically talking about saltwater spinning reels I typically fish with Penn and they ALL fish like power reels, they are bricks but if you hook into a Bull Redfish or a baby shark you won’t get owned assuming your line and rod are up to the task. Penn used to make a fantastic freshwater reel called the Prion that felt as high dollar as anything else Diawa was making at the time, and then they got rid of the lineup ..

I have noticed a huge problem with spinning gear since I started fishing again 6 yrs ago. It really surprises me how poorly most spinning reels fit into the reel seat of most spinning rods. Especially when you attempt to pair a rod and reel from the same company. You would think Shimano rods/Shimano reels, Daiwa rods/Daiwa reels, Lew's rods/Lew's reels, etc. would fit together properly, but most of them don't. The first thing I do when I consider buying a new reel is test fit it on the rod I plan to pair it with. I can accept the fitment of a pairing being off a little, but if it's too bad I pass on the reel regardless of how good it is or how much I like it.

Just wanted to say that I absolutely love and appreciate the hard work both of you put into this channel. You two have helped me turn from first time bass fisherman to seasoned veteran in a way quicker fashion than I could have done on my own. My question for you guys is have you had any experience with Edge rods? I know you as well as myself have heard horror stories of customer service and long wait times. However I’m curious of your opinion on the rods themselves without the bias of the other issues within the company. I get really good discounts from some people that run them, so I am just curious your thoughts. I don’t need a long winded explanation, but just a comparison to the highest end rods in the market. The depth of the spool! S= Shallow, M=Med if it just shows reel speed then it’s the higher capacity spool! Try going to Digitaka pick a Shimano Vanquish and a chart will explain depth or line capacity! Have fun!

I just scrolled through the spinning reels on Tackle Warehouse and there is not a single Daiwa or Shimano that’s eligible for the Black Friday sale. Am I missing something?

Yeah, you're missing the sale behind the sale. It isn't advertised but they're all included. Complete your purchase and check the receipt, it's been working that way for years.

No Daiwa Ballistic?

Matt..... You don't like talking gear? I don't believe that. When your tackle junky geek comes out it takes everything for Tim to get you back on track 🤣👍

There's no sexier piece of equipment in bass fishing than a high end spinning reel!

None of the Shimanos and Daiwas are on sale though...

They're all on sale, it's just not advertised for certain brands. If you purchase one, your receipt will reflect the discount. This isn't new, it's been going on for years.

While I love the breakdown of the lineups, Shimano and Diawa are excluded so not a sale really at all. Just the xenon and 13 fishing reels are. Disappointing for sure but nothing new. Just don’t think you should be saying they’re on sale when they aren’t.

You have to put them in cart and checkout you’ll see the savings, and if you send in or photo copy your DD214 or military I.D. you get an extra 10% off! Just a tip!

They are still on sale, they just can’t be advertised as “on sale” but if you put it in the cart the discount will still apply

Thanks. I put them in the cart and even started checkout with no change, but like you said, on the last step it took it out. Thanks folks
