Look at the squads of liv , city, lei, united, chelsea thats top 4 there.and west ham , aston Villa are already ahead. And people thought jose was the problem. This squad is rootten to the core. 03:56 Lots of Portuguese managers use that approach, especially in a 4-4-2. They usually overload the middle with 3 players (the wingers and one of the forwards) to emphasise the runs of the wingbacks, that usually are very offensive. This is why in Portugal is very popular to see the winger playing for the wingback, and not the wingback playing for the winger, as we see in managers like Pep Guardiola. This use of the wingers provides a lot of crosses and 2X1 situations. A very popular manager that uses this is Jorge Jesus, now at Benfica, but every manager of the Big 3 here uses it, Rúben Amorim with his 3-4-3 that will win the league for Sporting and Sérgio Conceição, from Porto. Actually, they both worked with Jorge Jesus and were influenced by him. You should do a video talking about Vitor Frade's influence in Portuguese football, it would be very interesting, or about the tactics of those managers, Jesus, Amorim and Conceição. Also there is Carlos Carvalhal's Braga, ex-Swansea and Sheffield Wednesday manager, eliminated in Europa League by Roma, and 2nd place in the league, playing with a style of play that for lots of people (including me) is the best at Portugal. Congratulations for your great work!

For any unsure Spurs fans: I saw a good graph from January showing non-penalty xG per shot (shot quality) vs total non-penalty xG (shot quantity). Roma are in an elite group at the top of both metrics with PSG, Inter and Dortmund. Think of him as the Portuguese Potter. January is significant because it was before they got a whole host of injuries to first XI players. I believe they were still 3rd by March so the disappointing 7th place isn’t much to go by. Also, he wasn’t sacked. He refused to renew his contract because the squad was rubbish and the board wouldn’t back him. More similar to Contes situation.
@joshnab800
@joshnab800 3 жыл бұрын
When Mourinho was announced which means Fonseca wasn't renewed, it was literally just a month left until the season ends with CL spot out of reach and freshly getting thrashed by United on leg 1 (low chance to go to Europa League Final). Basically no objective left, so no need for Roma to sacked Fonseca. They should've sacked him one or two months earlier i'd say. Also, Roma were the one that didn't renew him because he failed to meet the objective (CL spot)

Roma v Rangers in the Quarter, Semi or Final of the Europa League would be something special. Rangers start with a 4-3-3, but when Davis drops deep from midfield into the back two to take the ball, to me it seems the start point is pretty much the same as Roma's as the wing backs have also pushed forward by then. Tifo, am I right? Would love your thoughts on this.

@@aadhithyavarman5704 yes playing 3 at the back reduces the workload of the CBs. However there is also more emphasis on the midfielders and the WBs to create more chances and dominate the midfield (because usually we'll have 1 less midfielder than the opponent, unless they are also playing 3 CBs).

I'm from Italy nd i can tell u gasperini, de zerbi nd Paulo fornseca they are d only teams who plays quick football and attacking football. But that of fornseca it's extremely too offensive. The man just came last season from shaktar donesk after dominating nd winning the league with an ultra offensive style..... For those who are wondering why are they sitting 7th or d loose against united then u should know something... At the beginning of the season after about 25 games Roma were sitting 3/4th nd they had the second/third best attacks in d league. Then suddenly a lot of his players had injuries nd another aspect is that Roma were the only team in seria A that stay long in Europe competition why others were eliminated this means that injuries nd a lot of games really killed Roma nd made them to do down at the table. U can see against man u when they were winning at old Trafford then 3 of his players got injured in 37 minutes etc.. Well i really love Paulo fornseca attacking style of football and his idea. The man not gud at speaking Italy but knows how to coach

1. Won 9 trophies. Won Bragas first cup in 50 years. Won 6 titles in Shaktar and got them to the champions final 16 twice. 2. He had quite a terrible squad at Roma in two years. This year Roma have created the most chances in EUROPE till January. After that, Roma have had a surreal amount of injuries. In the 6 2 loss to Man U , they had 4 injuries in ONE HALF. Roma are the 8th, 9th best squad in Italy, and with their injuries, he did a good job with them! Getting the semis of el with half a squad is good. 3. He plays great football. He improves his players, especially fullbacks, immensely. He plays out of the back quite smartly, in fact most of Romas goals have been 20, 30 passes goals! He trusts young players but does not have favourites ( he had the balls to drop Dzeko for many games). He is great tactically ( DEFINITETLY better than ten hag tactically), and can be pragmatic. 4. He is well respected by Romas fans and players. He will not speak out about his players, and will be able to grow and develop us. 5. HE WAS NEVER SACKED BY ROMA. He wanted to leave since February when the squad was really thin. 6. Paratici picked him. He got one of the best DoF in the world. We trust and back him. 7. Sounds to me like a Portuguese Poch. He is also 48, and has great experience in three countries. 8. We NEED a manager now. Desperately. He is probably the best available. As you can see from above, he could be a better option than ten hag considering he is not under contract.

Paulo Fonseca is a great coach. Be aware of the portuguese coaching class, very competent, knowledgeable of the game, and the best to maximize the resources that they have. As a Roma fan, I gotta be honest: Fonseca is a good Coach, but numbers in hand, despite liking the person very much.. not convinced at all. Your analysis is great as always, and its nice to talk Roma for once. But after almost two years in Italy, the "growth" is hard to see, long standing issues of his own making are still there, Roma cannot seem to adapt in-game and lacks motivation/fighting spirit against any above average side. As of now, a lot of tactical Hype, while still chasing basic team dynamics that should have been ingrained in the team long ago and are sorely lacking.

Roma fan here too, I think the mentality problem is with our pack as well as the quality, I understand the in game adaptability as I believe fonseca is awful at making the correct substitutions. He needs better players to make it work, we won’t get top 4 with the squad and it’s consistent injuries

Roma have good possession but their defence against good teams isn't as good cuz pacy players run past their midfield and defence lines and mess up the structure and use the spaces created by that mess to score goals. Roma need to find a way to cover the pitch better as allow less space when they are caught out

Would love to see games back with Diawara in midfield for these games, and it’s less so a problem in midfield as it is with too little numbers in midfield, as well as a static 5 man defence (all in a line). See the games against Juve (the first one), and the most recent game against Milan

as a fan, I can say that Fonseca is doing a good job, considering that except for Spinazzola and karsdorp we have no reliable backups on the both sides. The problems are injuries (we fans strongly believe the pitch is cursed): Smalling, Calafiori, Zaniolo, Veretout just to say some, and individual defensive mistakes: around ten goals conceded for this reason. You guys need to check Calafiori, he has a dramatic story (career-ending injury at 16), a great potential, but very fragile body. He scored a crazy goal in europa league, and I'm sure he'll play a lot in the last two months.

People are targeting Zidane and Conte to replace Ole but have any of you notice that they can’t play with a CAM? If they were to join Man Utd Bruno career would end immediately just like Odegaard, James under Zidane and Eriksen under Conte. I still back Ole because of his backroom management and he can use Bruno but if we have to replace him then go for Fonseca. Fonseca use a team that I would describe as move a lot and can recover the ball quite quick when facing them that tend to lure using the backline and hit long ball (which has shown to be our problem sometime despite Varane pace) and only Fonseca can use Ronaldo, Edi and Bruno movement as well as if not much better than Ole. I dont know why nobody targeted Fonseca but this is who we should sign

Really loved this as a Romanista. Have to note though; Cristante actually was a high attacking midfielder, really good at pressing and making late runs for goals - not a deep lying midfielder. Also, Zaniolo is less technically talented and more so has his career carved from his acceleration, power and physicality. Not to say his technicalities are poor - they’re still very good - but probably his biggest area for improvement. The tactics are spot on though. It’s nice to also note that the wide CBs will push up even higher in possession when the team is pressed up the pitch, offering more passing options (See Veretout goal, assisted by Mancini vs Hellas Verona)
@euanlynch6343
@euanlynch6343 3 жыл бұрын
@cino they did mention that gianluca Mancini is a more ‘aggressive’ defender. Which I think covers your point about defenders pushing up but imo I really only see Mancini doing that, Ibanez sometimes but I don’t think it’s a tactical decision, more Mancini playing within his own preference of the role he’s supposed to play Forza Roma
