TADASHI SHOJI SPRING/SUMMER 2020 RUNWAY SHOW

Spring 2020 is inspired by Once Upon a Time in… Japan. It’s a collection that plays between residing in fantasy while staying grounded in the real world, with pieces that focus on quiet luxury and cultural richness. Intricacy and refinement cultivate a deeper understanding of past and future, where new perspectives honor tradition and beauty transcends.
It’s a season inspired by rediscovering heritage. Lacquerware’s decorative motifs inspire intricate embroideries and lacquer-like sheens. The works of Ukiyo-e artists, Hokusai and Utamaro, are referenced in print and silhouette alike, where fluid draping and graceful shapes pair with obi-inspired knotting.
It’s a season inspired by expanding appreciation through beauty; by the elegance of Ikebana with bright, blossoming flowers, and by a wander through a Japanese garden, where chrysanthemums sparkle and peonies bloom.
It’s a season inspired by the feeling of enchantment when time and place define an everlasting moment. It’s an exciting conversation with a rider on the train who makes you think different. It’s the sensation of moving with elegance dressed in a Watteau gown, and it’s the flutter of emotion while watching cherry blossoms fall.

The beauty of this collection is beyond words. This is the first time I have seen Mr. Shoji's designs. The creative vision and artistic talent say so much about the man. I am not a woman of means to wear one of his designs but seeing them allows me to share in the beauty of them. He can go beyond the concepts of how women should look to be "worthy" of wearing art to seeing the art in these very women. I'm transported. Thank you, Mr. Shoji

Check out Christian Siriano's work. I think he might have been the first to have plus-size gorgeous models. It's been his campaign for a number of years. Plus-size meaning everything over size 0-2. Lol

Beautiful! Feminine and sexy, without being vulgar, silly, or too precious. It was great to see several body types included..... now an occasional older model, please? There are some very striking models over 50!

Everything from the models, to the fabrics chosen, of course the designs, and the cohesiveness of the collection was beautiful. I seen several pieces that I would love to wear. These gowns were stunning! Some of them literally took my breath away! And the models were gorgeous. It was nice to not only see some plus size models but also in addition to the typical super thin models you normally see, to feature women who were a healthy looking shapely size that were not scrawny and emaciated looking. I really liked that. Spectacular show bringing back the beauty of the 40's and 50's glamour!

I love your elegant designs for all women. But I am especially happy that plus-size women (like me) don't have to be dowdy! We are the ones who need design expertise the most. We need an expert's eye to design clothes that look beautiful on us. What woman, who has been married for 40 years and has 4 kids and 6 grandkids, doesn't want her husband to say "Wow!" when she comes down the stairs for a special occasion or "date night"? Thank you for including ordinary women in your design concept! I'm a fan!
