People when Pogačar (who has been amazing at ITTs before, with a team taking care of the bike setups to a T, and who has proven to be a great talent _since he was a little kid_ ) performs amazingly at an ITT: "omg he must be doped up!!!" A truly superhuman performance from Pog, if he keeps this form up he will surely enter the pantheon of greats along with Armstrong, Ullrich and Contador! 👏 Also, that edit to a close shot of Küng's face as Pog crossed the line, told us all, without a single word being spoken, of the immense respect the peloton has for this Slovenian prodigy, who is rewriting the rulebook and the laws of physics, showing the specialists that you don't need to he a climber, a TT man, a rolleur etc, you can just be everything at once if you can push 6.5 W/KG without looking like you're trying too hard. Pog even eased off the gas to at the end of the TT stage to give everyone else a chance and still won. The rest of the peloton must follow this great example or be damned to mediocrity.

Congratulations...good examples with those dope cheater you mentioned. We all now know how that panned out. I have very mixed feelings about him, as well. Also when you consider that he can also sprint, as shown in Liege-Bastogne-Liege. However, I am not a pro-cyclist. I do not know how much influence the bike handling skills, preparation and overall team setup and the likes, have in the end. But just from a physiological standpoint, I also find it odd. Then, on the other hand, Ganna smashed the final TT in the Giro over 30.3km in 33:48min (of, course he is an utter specialist). As I child I watched Lance Armstrong and Jan Ullrich battle (and as a German was an avid fan of Jan) in the TT's and the mountains where they both dominated. Oh! Don't forget that LBL win and podium in successive years.... Again, this is in less than 2 years... Cycling equipment, nutrition, clothing, helmets, training and even the sunglasses have all changed dramatically since Hinault burst on the scene in 1978.... @Anthony Marks yeah, well tell me what Hinault's normalised power, watts/kg or FTP was when he was 22. Can't say? No worries, then tell me if Hinault had a 7 figure 5 year pro contract at age 20... Time marches on sir, as does race prep and training, physiologic training, nutrition and pro compensation. Hinault rode all those races because (a) he had the talent to do, (b) it was accepted/standard practice at the time, and (c) he had to to make a living. Those track and classic races were not an option for Him Tadej seems to have the same level of talent and has the contract and access to modern training techniques which makes the things Hinault HAD to do an option for him.... How Talent like Tadej's is developed and displayed may have changed between Hinault's and Tadej's era... But the quality of the talent itself is consistent over the same 40 year span.... And Tadej seems to be the real, LeMond, Hinault, Contador-level deal...

I still see no point in using disc brakes for time trials. The aero loss from disc brakes is massive. It seems utterly illogical to use all that aero kit and then riding a disc brake TT bike. Of course, manufacturers keep pushing disc brakes to the point of sheer stupidity. It must be really frustrating to be forced to use them knowing your rival, aka Pogacar, already has the edge over you from the start.

MVP is a great breakaway guy. Wouldn't put it past him to try to get in breaks on hilly stages and just to make the big teams sweat a little bit. Of course, he can't hang on the big climbs. But he can try to stay in Yellow for a little longer. =)

I've been paying pretty close attention to cycling over the past couple of years and monitoring individual performances and I don't see anything suspicious about Pogacar's results today. His opponents are banged up and exhausted and he is young and at the height of his raw physical strength. This result is NOT that anomalous if you examine his previous performances. As soon as he fails a test he loses any presumption of innocence but until then...
@MarlowWhere3 жыл бұрын
Exactly...plus when you look at the fastest TTs he doesn't even scratch the top 25. He's strong, but his real talent is his endurance to ride at that level for 3 weeks. If he were going to Worlds TT he probably wouldn't have as much of a chance to win.

van der Poel's mouth was open so wide to suck in every last gram of O2 he could -- hugely impressive and just another instance of the Yellow Jersey motivation. Pogacar should have been docked a few seconds as penalty for leaving early, but the control is not so precise. In the future they should probably add a gate like skiers use at the start and if you trip the gate early there is an automatic penalty of, say, 4 seconds plus the amount early so if you trip the gate 0.734 seconds early you have 4.734 seconds added to your time. Still, Tadej is looking like the rider to beat.

It seems to be the case that the last time rider that dominated in the time trials and in mountains both while a GC leader was Lance Armstrong. Am I mistaken? Now come the question, did Vingegaard fell with Roglic or did they make him wait Roglic, because if they did it was a mistake and I already was thinking about it just after that stage 3. Right now he would be 3rd in GC behind Mvdp and Tadej, and he is looking really strong, I would say mountain satges suit him and there is another TT wich is simillar 👀
@markopodganjek8453 жыл бұрын
You cant calculate in daily bases this things, because then teams couldn't work. Every second day would be different captain. Also Teams doesnt work in this way. One is captain and others have to support him. It was same debate with Kuss in past. And so what? They send him to be captain and he achieved nothing. For now also Vindergard is not enough. All wins of TJV on tours in last years came from Roglic. ALL. and support wasnt the best.
@florianbernhard61073 жыл бұрын
@@markopodganjek845 The thing is Wva didn't wait but Jonas did and they should have done it the other way, 1st bc Wva could have pull harder for Roglic 2nd because Vingegaard was obviously the better climber out of the two and most suited for GC, (I was 99% conviced of it based on his results this year, so surely his team knew he was better for GC than Wout)

@@tim-5433 He lost to both Wiggins and NIbali in those tours. In 2012, he was clearly inferior on the time trial, and is never pulling back three minute on that course.
