Axe kicks are so awesome looking lol. I am not a martial artist but I am BEYOND impressed by how flexible you have to be to use this technique effectively lol. So dope!

Master Woo you always describe very very well. I have never seen anyone over youtube who describes in tutorials like this. Thankyou once again for your lesson.

@Xithyl1 In my opinion when you apply this kick from an enough kicking distance as an attack, (normal distance between you and your opponent are bit longer than any of single kicking distance) it’s ok to bring your (rear) leg straight up, but if you want to use a front leg, (Skipping Axe kick) as you skip you should bring your knee first and extent your leg to attack.
@taekwonwoo13 жыл бұрын
@Xithyl1 And if you use this kick as a defense you also need to bring your front or rear knee up and extend, since your opponent is coming at you the kicking distance will be much closer than normal or as you may know use inside or outside crescent kick (And your master is not wrong, there are still many different way to use this kick)

If it connects, it's very useful. The fact that the technique has 2 motions, makes it a bit predictable, but there are many ways to include it in a combo (my favorite is double round house, with the axe kick as the second strike). My master also advised me to use it while being hit by an "inferior" technique (like fr. round kick), because you always win the exchange

Wow, that is an impressing axe kick in the beginning! So high, and yet very powerful! Master Woo, I want to train in Taekwondo, but the only school that is near me is a GTF one. I know you're a WTF master, but can you tell whether there are certain differences between WTF and GTF (there is no certain information about it anywhere). Are throws and grappling a part of Taekwondo? 'Cause the wall you are warming up near has an armlock pickture on it.
@Poleeze14 жыл бұрын
Throws and grappling are not usually taught in Taekwondo. It’s mainly a striking art. What do you mean by GTF? I know there’s ITF and WTF

Beautiful axe kick. That's exactly how I did it when I had my TKD school. Some utube videos on here don't have a clue as to how to get the power for this kick.
@Polter6eist12 жыл бұрын
the WTF competitions don't allow grapplings, but they are part of the taekwondo curriculum. Because the legs are much harder to train then the hands, and many elements, such as pivoting, sliding, stances, etc are also used in the combination with the arms, you find yourself training 80% legs. I learned the close/ ground combat only when I was preparing for the belt exams

Always look for emulating a Dim Mak in a fight. By dancing algorithmically through pressure and energy points to remove their toughness, one can get someone to dizzy and collapse onto butt and cry without a losing record.
