how come everyone calls it differently, i call it hammer kick and the outside to inside version is called crescent kick.

+Poke master Different instructors just call them different names for the same kick. When I learned the crescent kick you hit with the inside arch/side of your foot and not come down leading with the heel like the "axe" kick

I remember learning this kick as a teenager at Karate classes. However, I would never be brave enough to ever attempt to use this in any sort of practical situation. LOL

Hello, I am pretty new to the channel and I am having trouble with the roundhouse kick. I can perform an axe kick pretty high (heel to top of head) but for some reason I can't get my roundhouse kick to go higher than my chin. I was wondering if you had or can make a video of your stretching routine to maintain/increase high flexibility in the legs. thank you.

I know you say lead with the heel but when you make contact with the axe kick, is it the heel or the ball of the foot that should be making the strike?

+Akinlabi Hubbard You can do either, if you're going for more of a KO strike then hit with the heel, if you're going just to make contact or points then more of the ball of the foot works as well

Best way would be to side step out of the way or move back since it is mainly a straight forward, linear kick!

which part of the foot do you hit with and to which areas do you aim the kick?

Either the heel or the whole bottom of your foot. Typically aiming for the face or sides of the head.
