Old School - delivering your kicks with power, good form is important to maximize efficiency and damage New School - Form is crucial because the performance is more important than damaging your opponent. I don't know if this is true but this is my observation, I study Muay Thai and the Old School style impressed me.

It is from what I can see as well. Finally a Muay Thai practitioner who doesn´t throw crap at TKD

Hey Thomas, as a current Muay Thai practitioner but with roots in the old school style of TKD growing up, I'd say your observation is spot on. Unfortunately the Olympic style shifted the power away from TKD and made it more of racking up points with flicky lead leg kicks. Really hope the same doesn't happen to Muay Thai.

Well you learn the proper technique and stuff and for me the power part was just kinda “I ain’t gon do crap if I don’t put power” so I think the power is just common sense or something idk

nah, form is crucial because many kicks start out the same way with the same chamber, correct form maximizes surprise and speed

Taekwondo WTF: Taekwondo WTF is the main style in Taekwondo and the most practiced This style was created to demonstrate Taekwondo in a sport-oriented way It is a style that infatises more the techniques of kicks, and techniques of competition, works quite the flexibility, reflex and Speed in the Movements This style in most of the academies in Brazil works 80% legs 20% arms It is the most modern style of Taekwondo, and that is in the Olympiads; Taekwondo ITF: It is the style created pleo General Choi It was a style created after the Japanese occupation in Korea, Had Influence of Karate, and other Martial Arts The TKD ITF is a style that preserves the tradition and Martiality The ITF Taekwondo is the most violent style, the wrestlers use only mouth guard, Hand Glove and Foot Glove (Professional Fight) The ITF Style works 60% legs and 40% Arms Taekwondo STF / ATA / WTTU: STF Style (with affiliation like ATA and WTTU, which is all the same) is a style created by Haeng Ung Lee, who first trained the ITF style; Taekwondo STF is the newest style of Taekwondo, a style known as "American Taekwondo" For it resembles American Karate; The STF uses White Weapons such as Nunchaku and Bastao, trains the Personal Defenses, the Sparring that is not as fast as the WTF and not as violent as the ITF, which makes it a lightweight Sparring, and the stf has also the forms (Inspired by the "tuls" of Taekwondo ITF) Hope this helps hug

Taekwondo is not the main style since it is not the original. WTF Taekwondo should not be labeled as TKD.

Hello martial artists friends, I see that the Taekwondo style WTF also known as the Olympic Taekwondo. Is it very focused on fights and competitions?? Good is the Taekwondo Styles: TKD Moo Duk Kwan: This style of Taekwondo was one of the first to emerge, it is a style that infatuates all Taekwondo techniques, strokes with arms and legs is a martial style. TKD Kukkiwon (WTF) this style of Taekwondo is a style more geared towards the Olympic and sporting part. It is a style that emphasizes kicking techniques, trunk and head kicks, aerial kicks and acrobatics, it is the duty of teachers of this style to also pass arms techniques, but many do not teach (which is a serious mistake), in part of the fight of this style is worth kicks and punches (punches can only be applied to the trunk and must be strong enough to score). TKD ITF: This style of Taekwondo is a very martial style, this style also works arms and legs equally and also has techniques of self defense, The fight part of this style worth kicks in the trunk and head and punches in the trunk and head is very similar to the karate fights TKD Sogahn (STF): This style is better known as "North American style" because this style has an emphasis even in the United States, it is the one that marks the biggest events of Taekwondo STF, this style of emphasis on techniques of arms, also has kicks use of white arms and self defense (more honestly the personal defenses of this style are horrible), inside the soganh has the confederations STF, ATA, WTTU that is all the same thing. The fighting part of this style is worth punches in the face and the trunk and kick in the trunk and head (but the fight is technique) Hope this helps hug

To understand the styles you need to learn the history of taekwondo itself: More than 2000 years in Korea was divided into three kingdoms: Silla, Baeck-Je and Koguyero, the queen of Silla declared a new class of soldiers the Hwarangs, they spent their whole lives studying martial arts, they had a code of conduct : 1-Be loyal to the king. 2- Be obedient to parents. 3. Honoring friends. 4- Never withdraw from a battle. 5. Kill with justice after some time the kingdoms were united, and the Hwarangs quantinuaron of the defense of Korea, a barbarian people coming from the north invaded Korea the Hwarangs lost the battle, the government will then summon the monks coming from the monster Shaolin, China they perfected the techniques of the Hwarangs, so three martial arts were born: Ssierum (a kind of Korean Sumo), Subak (the art of defending himself with all parts of the body), Taekkyeon (martial dance of rituals), Taekkyeon aimed to kick in the air to knock down the horse's enemies. centuries later Japan took possession of Korea, and Korean arts including Taekkyeon, a master of Taekkyeon and Shotokan Karate named Choi Hong Hi began teaching a mixture of the isis hidden in the house, Choi was consecrated General, traveled the world after the Korea's freedom he returned home and came across 9 different schools created by his students each with their own style. he then created the ITF (International Taekwondo Federation) joining the other schools. for greater ease Choi moved to Canada as well as the ITF base so the president of Korea created a new federation to WTF (World Taekwondo Federation), and still a Chinese created a new federation to STF (Songham Taekwondo Federation). Here are the differences of styles in Taekowndo: ITF: Chang Hun style Kwan (Chang Hun is another way to write Choi Hong Hi and Kwan means style then choi hong hi style) uses the feet and hand equally, it is a more traditional style the fights are semi, light and full contact uses weapons and their choreographies are called tuls. WTF: Kukkiwon style is an Olympic style geared towards sports, uses more feet, fights are semi-contact, and choreography are called Poomse. STF: Songham style an American style used as well as floor techniques and weapons, choreography called formulas. _______________ Is Divided in Bascimente Style: -> WTF> Olympic Style Characterized by the use Conitnuo of kicks and Techniques of competition It's a sport-oriented style of Taekwondo. The goal of the WTF Style is to take their rage to the cameo (At least 90% of the WTF teacher has this vision), Score Point and be an Olympic Athlete. The WTF style still has Poom Techniques itself (it's a kind of Taekwondo Kata, Imaginary Fight), Kibon dong Jac (Attack and Defense with Arms), Ho Shin South (Personal Defense) -> ITF> Traditional or Martial Style; As the Name says, and a style that has the Essence of Taekwondo (Created by General Choi) It is a style that works Taekwondo to the whole, techniques of Personal Defense, Kicks, Movements of Arm, Sparring and In some cases White Weapons; The ITF also has competition from Sparring and Túl; -> STF / ATA / WTTU> "North American" Style It is a style that has received a lot of North American influence is a style similar to AKA (American Taekwondo Association) Semi-Contact Sparring Techniques Defenses People Breakdowns White guns is a style different from the Others, and receives enough Negative Criticism to respect. I particularly like this style I only like the competitions of XMA, Which are Famous in the USA and transmitted by North American Broadcasters; STF / US ATA (These weapons wrestling competitions are called XMA and those who dominate this mode are the AKA and US ATA) STF Do Brasil> Falow hug

old school refers to before dae do and before slap kicks, I’m currently a Taekwando competitor and I am a very powerful kicker, I was really adapted to old school back then and now I can’t seem to get the hang of it, point style pisses me off, the opponent sticks his leg in the air gets a light head kick off on me I front kick him to the body old school style and knock him down but because he tapped me on the head he gets points? What happened to power equals points? Speed and precision with power were needed for a point back then but now as long as you hit you’ll get a point, it’s BS.

Avean this in fact does not come from kung fu, certainly not directly. Where did you hear or read that? I'd argue that shotokan has a much higher influence since some of the original forms sometimes almost mirror shotokan kata. Watch a video of "chong-ji tul" and then watch "heian shodan" and then to see the moves that were missed in the shotokan form check out the next itf form "dan-gun". And after that eye opener then if you feel somehow kung fu played a part in that let me know.

From what I can notice, this person is not capable of true "modern" taekwondo, his body and blood is infused with the ways of the old school and will forever remember how his body moved. If that doesn't show the real dedication and absolute love for the traditional way taekwondo was made to be recognized, I don't know what will. No matter how old this person's body may become, his soul will never forget it's ways.

I miss Old school Taekwondo, it was more based on power and damage more, cut kick was great way to go and set up for biger combinations and with round kick we used to hit with shin and with heal in hook kicks. Now cut kick is no longer used, In hook kicks is flat foot used more than a heal, and in round kicks there is no hiting uaing instep.
