Whoo! What a fight. Getting mobbed at the end, and still managing to put your plane down without dying, counts for a lot on this one.

Lovely stuff, given the P40 is way outclassed by every fighter you;re up against, you're doing pretty good! Here's an idea for you; have you considered flying in lag pursuit, and only pulling the opponent into the sight at the last minute? Saves energy, and given the P40, you need as much of that as you can keep. Plus it gives you just that little bit more time to react. Plus you end up with a lower deflection angle when you take the shot. I learned this from, I think,GS series of vids, and it works just as well with pistons as with jets. Worth a try? Oh, and GET CLOSER. Give it some Hartmann and don't shoot until you literally can't miss. Never shoot until he fills your gunsight. And even that counts as long range!

The AEF (Flying Tigers) flew the P-40 against the extremely maneuverable Zero, by not succumbing to the urge to turn-fight them, and using 'boom-and-zoom' instead.

When it comes to the landing, it's a P40! Just hammer the dents out and it'll be ready to fly the next mission. The greatest advantage the P40 had over it's opposition and contemporaries was it's durability and reliability of its engine.

Judicious use of the combat flaps would help, also use the P-40 more as a boom and zoom .. stop getting into turn fights with 109's ...

@AJ Rowland, NO NO NO! The P-40 was an EXCELLENT turn fighter, especially at low altitudes. The 109, on the other hand, was NOT. If you try to BnZ with a 109, he'll use his better climb to run away from you, then come back and hit you from above. From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtiss_P-40_Warhawk 1) "The P-40 was conceived as a pursuit aircraft and was agile at low and medium altitudes but suffered from a lack of power at higher altitudes. At medium and high speeds it was one of the tightest-turning early monoplane designs of the war, and it could out turn most opponents it faced in North Africa and the Russian Front." 2) "The P-40 usually had an advantage over the Bf 109 in horizontal maneuvers (turning), dive speed and structural strength, was roughly equal in firepower but was slightly inferior in speed and outclassed in rate of climb and operational ceiling."

@@odonovan have you watched Taff's vids? Regardless of reality, Taff flies the plane without using the strengths of the P-40. Reality be damned, in this game he should avoid turning fights ..... target fixation, along with not conserving momentum will get him killed.

@@odonovan Its always frustrating when the game gets the flight characteristics so wrong. I myself was attempting to drag the 109s low and then outturn them as was historically what the P40 did well, and what works in other sims doesn't translate into this game at ALL. Turns out in this game the P40 can't roll too well either, which was its primary defense against 109s on its tail, to use its superior roll rate to drag the 109 down lower where it could then outturn it and catch it.

Nice vid Taff! I have to say, that i regret it a little bit that I´ve voted for the P40. I did not know, that it is that hard to fly. I play the YAK 1 in my career and I really like it, altough I haven´t mastered it fully unitl now.

No kills credited to you Taff, but that was pretty damned exciting action. I have a couple suggestions. Claire Chenault, CO of the Flying Tigers who flew P-40s against Japanese Ki-43 Oscars in China always taught his pilots to use Boom & Zoom tactics, never to dogfight. So, I suggest that you climb as high as you can, on the way towards the scene of action for the sortie. Then, you can dive on the 109s, and use your energy to gain back altitude. If you are bounced at low altitude, then use combat flaps to aid maneuvering and reduce stalling speed. Be aware that the P-40 isn't capable of fast acceleration, except in a dive. Otherwise, you are doing quite well. Keep it up! IL-2 Great Battles is a great series!

Taff - it really looked as if you were fighting that entire engagement at half throttle! Are you sure all your settings are set up right? Your speed over the ground when you were at low level looked unusually slow too, and acceleration - well - there didn't seem to be any. Maybe some non-combat testing? Maybe Trofim Taffinski's been on the vodka a bit too much?

True. The P 40 was outdated at that time. Too slow and sluggish. He needs to improve his shooting as well.

@@foreverpinkf.7603 Also true, but to be fair to Taff it must've been even harder with the constant tendancy to stall pretty much every time he tried to bring guns on target! It just seemed to me that other players streams I watch don't show the P40 performing quite that badly, which is why I wondered whether there was some other cause.

@@foreverpinkf.7603 It's hard to get hits when your aircraft flies like a brick in a turn fight. Taff is using the P-40 in completely the wrong way. He needs to get above the enemy before engaging them and use boom and zoom tactics and then use the energy of the dive to regain altitude again for the next attack. He's trying to turn-fight as if he was still flying the Hurricane. One of these missions he's going to run out of the sort of luck he had here. Those 109s would have toasted his backside here if they'd had human pilots flying them.

@@colindouglas7769 Yup, so it is. In Rise of Flight he did pretty well; low speed and distances of 100+ meters. Since that he is trying to fly WW2 planes in the same way.

I am gonna be honest. The new videos are not as great as the old ones. I mean, they are still good and i will watch them, but i kinda miss the ones where you did the briefing and all that good stuff. But then again, it is not Taff's fault that the algorithm sucks ass. Keep up the good work!

Not trying to complain but try not to dump most or all of ur ammo on 1 plane. And try to work on ur marksmanship in the sky because the last video u showed u spent a lot of time trying to shoot down 1 Ju-87 and this one you've spent a lot of time trying to shoot down 1 enemy fighter. Ur videos are great, to me u need some improvements but nice flying.
