Unfortunately, the definition of "financial core" that the casting director provides in this interview is offbase. She is right that financial core is a status, but it has nothing to do with not making enough money to pay dues -- instead, you pay an agency fee instead of dues, and that fee is for "core" collective bargaining services provided by the union. Unions may be decent resources for information on financial core, though it is generally not in their interests to promote it and may even promote against it. As fi-core, you can work union in both right-to-work states and union secure states, as well as non-union. And as for SAG-AFTRA, you keep your pension and health insurance eligibility as long as you are current with your fees. Consult The Fi-Core Workbook on Fi-Core Central for more information on financial core. Definitely a status actors should have solid information on.

Acting Income Thats not true fi-core does involve working Non Union so you can make money when not working enough Union. Your definition is only part of it. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Its not just 1 movie. If you SAG ELIGIBLE you need 3 movies. She said a movie...but you need 3 waivers. So you need 3 vouchers from 3 union jobs.

Thanks for clarifying these. I have not been putting in for auditions whenever I see SAG-AFTRA in the description. Not being in the union has already hurt my early career.
