Tag Heuer 80’s 2000 series watch review

I take a look at the watch that started my collection some 40 years ago. Can’t believe it this watch continues to work after all these years and one of the benefits of a good automatic watch. Tag Heuer is a great brand with excellent watch maker over the years.

If this watch was from early '80s it would be Heuer only. Tag acquired Heuer in 1985 and this 2000 model was released around 1997 and lasted to 2003.

This is not a 80s watch. late 90s or early 2000s is the time frame. They are also all screw down crowns originally on this model.

I bought the Night Diver version in 1988 with my first paycheck (£200). It was stolen in a break in 30 years later. It broke my heart. Insurance got me an Oris Aquis. I so miss my Tag.

Tag Heuer 2000 was my first entry into Swiss watches back in 1992. I previously had Seiko. I went into Las Vegas Times (Forum shops at Caesars) looking for Rolex Submariner (well out of my price range $3,000?) and ended up purchasing a Tag Heuer 2000 quartz for around $500. Was not familiar with the brand but owned that watch for a good 15 years before selling it.

I have the dark grey dial automatic which doesn't have any numerals just indices at the 12 twelve o'clock position. Bought new for myself on a birthday. It now looks battered and well worn like its owner. It been diving, mountain climbing, traveled the world, worn at my wedding and the birth of my children. Ive had it serviced a number of times and stilk good to a couple of seconds today.

Thats a great watch. I wear my gold and silver Heuer 2000 quartz 200 meters every other day. I switch off with my solid black g shock. It is the most comfortable watch ive ever worn. People think it is a rolex sometimes so i get scared wearing it in LA.

I have the silver dial version, my Wife (girlfriend at the time) got it for me back in the late 90's or early 2000's. Still remember how excited I was! Love that one too!

I have a slightly later model; bought in 2000 actually. Quartz. Super accurate. Same amazing satin finished bracelet.

Yes, this is at least a 1994 watch in my estimation, as TH didn't start making a 3 hand automatic 2000 series until 1991, the same year they introduced the coloured TH logo👍. Until 1991 the 3 hand 2000 watches were all quartz....I have the earliest version of this watch, the model prior to yours, almost identical with a flat dial, i purchased new in 1992. Lovely automatic watch☺️ It DOES have a screw down crown, as the crown is small, and the action is stiff, you've never noticed, but when you turned the watch over in the video, you can actually see the 1-2 mm gap between the crown and the case! Push the crown in to close that gap and screw it in like any other watch 👍 The watch also looks better with the crown screwed in, it then sits more flush... Only just found your channel, very enjoyable, subscribed ❤️

Id say that this is the affordable era of Tag Heuer watches. The 2000 series were great value in the quartz variant and because many would wear them as a 'best' watch, there are many good condition examples on the market. Id say £400.00 would get you a nice condition non chronograpgh.

It is a screw down crown probably just has stripped threads on the crown and or tube

It does have a screw down crown. I just didn't push hard enough. It had been a long time since trying the watch in my collection.

When I looked at the value it was around $600 to $700 if in good running order. It originally cost $500 to $600

The 2000 series added a 12 to the dial in 95/96. So this is not from the 80s

If you haven’t figured out that it’s a screw down crown over the past 35 years, well, never mind. Oh, and this model came out in the late 90’s so the 80’s confabulation reminds me of a Biden tall tale.
