I would definitely leave Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy in the rain. Lol

My first Thomas Hardy. More fool me!

I haven't read that one, but I've heard that Thomas Hardy can definitely be a less "happy" author! So good to know to avoid that one! 😁
@Thecatladybooknook_PennyD6 ай бұрын
@@woldenburnreads yeah he's definitely not a happy author but I have liked one book (so far) from him. I don't mind depressing books...I gravitate toward them actually, but I hated every. Single. thing. About Jude. Lol

LMA is always magical for me, there is a sense of nostalgia and the enchantment of childhood in most of her stories. Love the strong moral character and family bonds too🤗

Love all your answers to the tag! We have such similar reading tastes and I’ve now added the books you mentioned to my TBR that I hadn’t already read! And I loved your rant about Me Before You…even though I enjoyed the book, I completely understand your viewpoint. Great video! 😊

Thank you, Jen!! I think I add new books to my TBR every time I watch one of your videos 🤭 And I'm glad you enjoyed my rant! There are so few books that I'll read all the way through and end up disliking, Me Before You might be the only one. But I definitely don't think I would have had such strong feelings about it if it hadn't felt much too close to home. Probably still would have disliked it though because I just love a good, happy ending! 😁

@@woldenburnreads I'm really glad you ranted about the book because I don't think I would have thought about it in the way you approached it but it's definitely given me something to reflect on. I read the book when it first came out so I bet if I reread it, I'd feel differently about it.

Emily, this was such a fun video! I really enjoyed "The Harvester", and loved the descriptions of the house David built for his future wife. Plus all of the flowers! It sounded heavenly. "The Woman in White" is such an excellent book! Have you read "The Moonstone" by Wilkie Collins? My husband and I both read "The Moonstone" at the same time and had our own mini book club. It was a fantastic mystery! "An Old-Fashioned Girl" was my absolute favorite book when I was an early teen. I always related to Polly being an old-fashioned girl too. I cannot tell you how many times I have listened to the audio version of "Gone Away Lake" and "Return to Gone Away Lake". That is one of my daughters favorite series. She listens to the audio books over and over all summer long, for the past couple of years! We read "Thimble Summer" by Elizabeth Enright together and really loved that story too. Currently my daughter and I reading "Under the Lilacs" by Louisa May Alcott. It is a really sweet story. Another Alcott favorite is "Eight Cousins" and "Rose in Bloom". Have you read those two books?
@woldenburnreads6 ай бұрын
The Harvester is probably my top favorite Gene Stratton Porter. I loved the house descriptions too!! I haven't read The Moonstone yet! I've been meaning to because I loved The Woman in White so much. My husband wasn't planning to read TWiW any time soon so I was able to tell him the entire plot and talk all about it with him which was so much fun! I didn't find out about An Old-Fashioned Girl until I was in my later teens, but it was definitely an immediate favorite. I didn't realize there were audiobook versions of the Gone Away Lake books!! I loved the books so much, especially in the second one where they start restoring the old house. 😍 It was just brilliant. I read Thimble Summer when I was younger so I don't remember much about it, but I remember thoroughly enjoying it too. I LOVE Eight Cousins!! It's such a sweet, fun, wholesome book! I definitely enjoyed it more than Rose in Bloom, but both books are really good. I actually haven't read Under the Lilacs yet though! I really should because so far I've loved every Alcott book I have read except for The Long and Fatal Love Chase (I think that's the correct title) which was just odd and I don't remember it having a very happy ending. It was a very different style of book from the rest of hers that I've read.

Oh my LORD! I didn't know "Me Before You" was a book (first) when I watched film. Both the film and the book should only be ever used as fire-starters or to line birdcages. 😠 I will spare you my rant on the war on the dignity of the human person and just tell you I couldn't agree with you more! But I did want Polly in "An Old-Fashioned Girl" to marry Mr Sydney -instead of feckless Tom. :)

Yes!! And I spent hours reading it only for THAT ending!!!! I was just appalled. 😱 Polly and Mr. Sydney would have been such a lovely couple!! I would have been rooting for them more if I hadn't wanted Fanny to be happy too. 😁
