Where I live in Arizona, brush is the feed. Mostly mesquite, it has the same feed value as clover and once they get the idea, livestock will browse it to death. The Big Horn fires ate up over 40,000 acres on the Catalina Mountains. The fire spread till it hit pastures and stopped. Cattle break down dead growth and crush much of it into the earth where termites use it. Rather than a fire hazard like was on the mountains it's converted to fertilizer.

Excellent - one hears of Tagasaste as a bit of a weed but, when properly managed, it serves a useful purpose. Some great ideas here, including the farmer's learning over the years. Thank you for posting.

I have bought a lot of tubestock & plan to add this to a depleted 4 acres in the NSW Southern Highlands. It makes sooo much sense as a windbreak, food source, weed retardent & soil stabilizer.

I bought about 50 of these as seedlings to trial. They all died. I am 20k from the ocean on the east coast. Would they grow here? I have heard not. So I gave up. But it looks a very good option.

@@samlowry9978 many reasons. Attracts / food for native bird, kereru. Feed for pet / meat rabbits, sheep, goats etc. firewood, chop and drop in building biomass / soil. Wind shelter / shade for newly planted trees.

Hi team, I've been thinking about growing this tree for some time, but in drought now. Did you grow from seed and if so did you inoculate so it can fix nitrogen? Great presentation BTW
@OffGridInvestor
@OffGridInvestor Жыл бұрын
You gotta sandpaper one side of the seed skin, pour hot but not boiling water on them and let them soak overnight, then inoculate them. They're not an easy thing to germinate, quite a bit of playing around. Smaller ones don't like hard frosts, it'll kill them but adult ones have no issue going down to -6C and some say even -9C. They can't handle being waterlogged. In the flooding in Victoria this year, a guy my dad knows lost ACRES of mature trees near a river, killed the entire lot thru roots being wet for months.

very interresting. No till and press wheel at the begining of the video. Tagasaste need pH 4 to 7. In Algeria we have more than 7.
