Hello sir, I just love the Bark River, as the Busse is way out of my price range. I have been a subscriber for some time and recently turned some friends on to your channel and we sat and watched a whole lot of your videos. You have obviously invested a fair amount into your knives and gear. Your sharpening videos are fantastic. I want to thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, thoughts and experiences with us. I am on a disability income so I have little chance of owning these higher priced blades. Your videos are a blessing and are a great resource. Thanks my friend.

Interesting to hear your thoughts on these steels. I think INFI's greatest benefits are under extreme duress. It may not hold a fine edge as long at A2, O1, or D2, but if you were to hammer it through a large pile of concrete or attempt to dismantel a house and/or car with it, i think it would rain supreme:) For realistic use, and skinning purposes, I think you are right about Bark River's steel.

BUSSE CABS knife has a convex secondary edge. Its edge angle is fairly large. I guess it was made not to take chipping easily in a hard use. I still keep its angle. If I need, I can shallow it any time. It's not a practical knife for now but one of my treasure knives.

You have the best critique of knives that I've seen yet on youtube. Its difficult to be negative at all after spending that much on a blade, especially one as revered as Busse. It is obvious you are a true knife user and are knowledgable of different steel types. There are many out there who love A2. I just bought a Tops and like Busse it has a large edge angle and wish it to be narrower.

I agree with you. Chipping is a nightmare. I still keep its deep angle and it is the dullest knife in my hunting knives. But its deep convex bevel slides on the chest bones beautifully during getting back straps although it gets uselessly dull soon. I just need to strop it after every single use. Thanks.

3V holds the longest in carbon steels. But it is a bit chippy. S30V holds the longest in stainless steels. Fallkniven 3G can hold a bit longer though. I have no experiences on S90V or S35VN. Bark River say their S35VN holds fairly longer than S30V. Thanks.

Hiya Doc, I have several Busse Combat Knives, they are my fav's, for what I do in the bush they preform excellently, my newest acquisition is the Nuclear Meltdown Fussion Steel Heart because sometimes my Anneversary Straight Handle Battle Mistress LE is slightly too long, but anyhow one of my fav camp/survival knives is my Sarge 7 for a knife this size it's extremely fluid and lite, my fav bushcraft knife is my Son of Badger just the most perfect size for the kind of work I do in the bush, then I got extremely lucky because they didn't make too many of these and that's my ALL TIME FAVORITE camp knife it's the Ratmandu in the INFI Steel the Ratmandu IMO is a perfect knife for the bush. The Ratmandu started it all for me when I bought my first Swamp Rat, until then my Bravo 1 was my go to knife, the size of the Ratmandu has many advantages over the Bravo 1 but is similar to my Bravo 1.5, but the INFI Steel has a slight advantage even over the 3V in all enviorments, and the fact the Ratmandu has a choil which to me it helps alot (for what I do in the bush), even though my S.O.B was more expensive my INFI Ratmandu hold's a special spot in my heart as my fav.

@synRdave Busse is precious because it is pricey and it sells in a limited period. And because some destructive test said it was very tough against the abnormal abuse. For its edge it has a deep angle and relatively dull. For its INFI steel it doesn't keep long. I still keep it just for it is cool. I don't depend on it in the hunting field at all. I am happy that I've found a person who has the same experience and opinion as mine. Thank you!

HI, Wako! My opinion is that a good hunting knife, whitch is dependable (if there is a need you can field dress and take a meat form 1 or 2 game animal min. 100kg without sharpening) is not a cheap knife - For hunting i prefer scandi-convex grind hand forged diferential heat threathetd knives-they are prety good for wild hog/bore field dressing /skinning and meat teaking - aredependable knives and price is form 50 do 250$ - do the job equal, but the spirit, the beauty of the knife is different.

Thanks for all your informative video! I watched many of your videos and you have many times mentioned that the Busse CABS factory edge, although very sharp, feels a little rough or gives a resistant feedback during paper sharp test so not buttery smooth. Is there a reason you have not resharpen or re-profile it? Is it too thin or you just wish to keep it as is and not change it.

I think you might like SR 101 steel from Swamp Rat Knives. They are made by Busse, a sister company. The steel is very tough and holds a great edge. They have a Rodent 4 offering right now. As usual, the Bussekin edge bevels are pretty thick so you may have to thin the shoulder down buy I think SR-101 will give A2 a run for its money. Check it out.

Same issues here with INFI steel, I tried and tried to give it credit, even cheered it on because of the cost of it, but in the end I had to accept the fact than INFI is kinda pathetic, no serious edge holding at all..I love the Busse looks and feel, but that's as far as I can go with it. Another good video, look forward to more.

@tigerlam92 Busse CABS factory made convex edge angle is clearly deeper than my self made convex edge angle. I can reprofile it any time. But it is a too expensive knife to change something on it very easily. So I am thinking it will reach my intended edge angle some day through much black compound stropping after each use, not by forced sandpaper or waterstone reprofiling. Its current sharpness is acceptable enough in deer dressing. Thank you!

i was so excited when i got my busse knife but when it came it wasnt very sharp and it didnt come with a sheath i was confused why a knife that cost so much money would be dull and no sheath so a went ahead a sharpened it myself and when i went to skin a deer i had to stop halfway through to touch up the blade and when i was deboneing the edge rolled so i compleatly understand what you were saying about your busse knife thanks for the videos

Bohler K294 holds the edge the longest. Then CPM 10V but these 2 are not "stainless". The best stainless is CPMS125V, then S110V, S90V, ... Spyderco Southfork (S90V) is much better than all the Busse knives together. Other steels much better than INFI are ELMAX, VANAX 35 and 75, Boher M390, VANADIS 4 EXTRA, VANADIS 23, Bohler K390 and many others.

Mark Sage He sold me too so I bought the large and small, gave the large to my brother kept the small but now I want a large in orange. I used my wicked edge and put a nice edge on it and it is incredibly sharp.I had one knife in 420 by buck that stayed as sharp as S30v in fact, I never did get it to dull and someone stole it later. I was amazed because I almost refused to buy a knife in 420hc because I hated 440c and thought it was a bad steel. Then I learned heat treat is what plays a massive part. I have a knife in 1080 I made and left it way harder than a 1080 should be and it was outperforming my Esse knives in 1095 however, esse is intentionally low RC for strength and my knife would snap under hard use. I recently took a torch to the spine to anneal it some and figured heat soak would soften the edge some. I feel it did but, it's still more 58-59RC Steels start to get really complicated with carbides and chromium or knifes with more carbon and tungsten for example, S110v vs M4 two great steels, two different ways of going about it. And I don't know who I went down this road I apologize haha. Take care, hope you bought your buck and enjoyed it.
