A great video on Tags; appreciated. I have a problem with the Tags dialogue box. It doesn't show the full name of my tags, they're cut off. I've tried the pull down "expand all" but doesn't seem to work. Any help with this appreciated.

Hello, why isn't there the possibility to "duplicate" a tag in the Tag section? Sometimes we have complex drawings where it would be easier or more practical to duplicate the Tag avoiding the following process: duplicate group with the move tool, then we select the new group and change the Tag in the identity information section as shown in the video , this path works for simple drawings like the ones you have as an example but it becomes very tedious for more complex drawings or models. Is there any solution?

i organise my groups (under outliner) in this tree structure, what is the advantage to do the same with tags? because i can hide and unhide groups too. What is the advantage of Tags?

Hi, in SU 2023, hiding a tag automatically moves to BOTTOM - why is that? any setting to change? this is annoying hehe

I also think that it is very strange that when you move a grouping or a component from one tag to another, that only the "shell" of the grouping or component is moved. Not however the elements, the structures and the things, which are in it. Strange.

Hi Aaron, I need to draw mechanical drawings and they always need ghost/dashed lines. I am using Sketchup Pro 2022. Can you make a video how to show parts of a machine part in one view and show the same part in an other view but in ghost lines. These drawings are drawn in parallel projection. I also just bought your book. Great job.

Somple group the entities that need dashed lines together, then put them on their own Tag. Then, in the Tag Window, set that tag to a dashed line type!

in my tag folder I don't find or see any defaults and I also don't know how to get dashed lines :( is it possible my pro 2022 didn't download completely or with errors? Tx, Rich

Dude... Demonstrate workflow! Start with a blank slate and show adding the tags, every video is just "hey, look what I did with tags", demonstrate actually creating and attaching tags to specific groups! Please... My floor and walls won't tag together, I draw a floor and it automatically tags the floor, I can't stop it... I offset my walls to draw a basic floor plan and then make that a group. I click add tag while that group is selected and the tag doesn't attach to anything! And the floor remains on the "untagged" tag while the walls are completely unaffected?!?!? It's probably a simple solution, but please for the love of God someone make a proper tutorial video..

Hey Aaron, perhaps you can share how to add a 'texture' material to a tag or how to make a tag 'transparent'. These are (2) features which are rarely executed by most users as there are other methods to produce the same results. Thanks for the instructions.

Hi Aaron, Can you nest a group that has the dashed line assigned to it to another group that does not have the dash lines and still have the dash lines appear ?

Why did SU devs change the behaviour of Layers? When you deselect a layer, all the items in that layer disappear from the Outliner. Now, with Tags, everything stays there. Why? What sense does it make?

I'm still a new user but this seems a bit redundant to me with the ability to also name groups. In the group window, you can name a component, turn visibility on/off and also nest groups. It seems like the same thing can be accomplished using either tags or groups. So when would you want to use one vs the other?

You don't actually say how to attach an objet to a tag. You create a tag called 'other' but it isn't attached to anything in the window. You then discuss tags that have already been previously created by you in the window.

I’m what you would call a casual SU user. I may go months without using SU then have periods of very intense use. I find I have to do a lot of refreshing my skills before the use sessions. Your square one videos are perfect for that. I thank you and please keep them coming.

My tag names only show about 5-7 letters max and I can't widen the tag name area in the window. Can someone tell me how to widen it to show more letters? Using the latest SU Pro 2021.

why are the colors of the objects still in one color? black!! I am trying to use the tag by color for my floor plans and it does not work at all, no help here!

Sounds like it could be a style issue. Post your question along with the model on our forum (forums.sketchup.com) for help!

You can draw directly into one layer/tag. But then these geometry is no more in the “untagged” layer/tag. Am I right?

That is possible, but best practice is to leave Untagged as the active tag at all times and move items to tags once they are grouped.

@@AaronMakingStuff In what cases is it interesting to draw in something other than Unttaged? I have an idea but I don't know if there are other cases: Create Tag "Scoring Scene 1" and activate this tag BEFORE starting to dimension. Then, save the visibility of this tag in the scene and hide it in the others. Dimensions are difficult to select. This is why I create the tag before. Note: Layout is best for the dimensions. So, in which exceptions should we create something outside of Untagged? Dans quels cas est-il intéressant de dessiner dans autre chose que Unttaged ? J'ai une idée mais je ne sais pas si il y a d'autres cas: Créer Tag "Cotation Scene 1" et activer ce tag AVANT de commencer à coter. Ensuite, enregistrer la visibilité de ce tag dans la scene et le masquer dans les autres. Dimensions sont difficiles à selectionner. C'est pourquoi je crée le tag avant. Note: Layout est mieux pour les cotations. Du coup, dans quelles exceptions doit-on créer quelque chose hors de Untagged ?
