OMG, you cracked me up so much, with your description of not seeing anyone all day, and the 15 seconds you take to pee, someone materializes! I have to tell a little story. My husband and I went on our annual trip to the Eastern Sierra, for two weeks in a cabin that we rent up there. We took my sister and her husband with us. One day we went for a hike. (My husband and my brother-in-law meanwhile have this friendly rivalry going on, about “protecting the women from bears” and whatnot. BIL carries a big ol’ Harley knife, and my hubby? A machete. Really.) So we’re walking along, and my husband’s stomach starts gurgling, so he runs off away from the trail. He gets to use his machete!!!! To dig a hole. He finishes his business, and gets back up to the trail, and there, a couple of people ask him, “Oh! Is that a shortcut to the creek?” “No. No, it isn’t.”

Wood piles are referred to as slash piles. Forest Service will burn them in the winter.

Yes! Slash plies helps prevent wildfires also if a wildfire starts it is easier to contain and not spread as much.

They will do them in our part of the Cleveland Forrest. It’s pretty fun to watch!

Thanks for showing my fav part on the TRT, the part where you can see Marlette and Lake Tahoe, especially this time of year. Marlette has some of the best Aspen, spectacular in fall foliage!! I heard, sadly, they have died. PS I spent a summer working for the forest service piling up those slash piles, 1972. They stopped doing it for a long time, now it looks like it is being practiced again. I hope it stops these horrible spreads of wildfires.
@JenniferMabus4 жыл бұрын
It was one of my favorite areas of the TRT as well! And I really hope it helps stop the wildfires as well!!

I like the way you started your nuun/mio commercial break with the pee story and circled right back around to it at the end. You're a natural. Also, Dyana is a superstar as far as I'm concerned. And quite possibly the best hiking companion ever.

Thanks Jen, for the great tip with the Nuun's and Mio. My cousin and I discovered the wonders of Nuun after a few beers the night before a triathlon. They're not really popular here in Australia but I swear by them for all my adventures and making them last longer with the flavoured drops will be awesome on my next hike.

Burn piles are what those are. I used to work for the National Park Service and we used to make those piles for burning at a later date. it gets rid of the dead fuel on the ground which makes the forest healthier. It gives the little trees a chance to get some sun to grow. It also reduces vegetation that can burn during a wildfire.
@JenniferMabus4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the info! And thanks for doing that however long ago. :)

When we hiked, we did it the opposite way. That Marlette pump saved our lives. I cannot imagine the poor folks who were hiking this summer without it. HUGE water carry. Also, the campground was SO nice!

Your question concerning bathroom time: Is like;why, when in town, riding a bicycle, you watch the road ahead. Cars move up and down the street, but right when you get to a parking lot entrance, a car or truck try’s to enter the lot turning right in front of you at the same time???

I am convinced that statistical probabilities do not apply when it come to a human encounter. Whether in the wilderness or just crossing a street, it's like 85% of the time someone will be in your way or pop out of thin air. My last hike, nobody around, went about 20 feet down a side trail to pee, zipper down and hello there.

Wait a minute. I thought all you had to do was climb a mountain and that's it. How did a one person reveal party fit into that scenario? You know it is certain that if you just step off the side of the trail or road and whip that thing out to pee, someone is going to come upon you and I have many humiliating experiences as well to attest to that. Great video again!
