I have a 2004 Suburban, which is how I found your channel because I want to eventually overland with it along with keeping it my daily driver. I also have a 1996 2500 Suburban with 7.4L (454) and the 4l80e trans and love both my Suburbans. I live in AZ, where there are tons of trails to off-road on like out around in Vegas. My sister lives in Henderson, NV. We visit her at least once a year. Last time we visited out there, we drove their side by side and our trucks off road, we had a blast.

We do some great trail runs out here around vegas. I am putting together a video.with a rubicon Jeep just to see how good these Jeeps are. Sneak preview though...as good as it is, I take the GM platform personally. I can build in capability but the chassis and drivetrain of the gm side is where I want to stay. Thanks for watching! I am doing an alternative gmt build ahead...a little different than the norm

@KnightDriveTV I love the GM platform as well. A my vehicle I have owned are or were GM trucks and cars. I grew up with GM's from my dad having a 80s C20 Chevy truck and a 60s Corvair and my uncles having a 67 chevelle and a 60s Chevy Suburban, I grew up around and learned to work on the GM platform and prefer the GM platform over any, but I love trucks and cars and any off-road vehicle content. 😀

I am tempted to a 4wd equipped escalade with 1ton solid axle conversion and dual lockers. Maybe thatd be good for youtube..lol. Lux off road, to the max

You should include the 2007 to 2013 Suburban’s and Tahoe’s. They come with coilover front suspensions, five link rear, 4th generation LS engines (externally mounted knock sensors, more power) rack and pinion steering and the much lower first gear 6l80 transmissions. Built right it’s a much better starting platform needing less mods.

I have been debating that move quite a bit actually. I want a nicer interior and I also feel its a good move for all the reasons you listed.

My 07 Yukon SLT 4x4 still has the 4 speed transmission. The problem with the newer ones is obviously the AFM and DOD issue. GM is being sued for the issue but the lawsuit doesn't cover all the years the AFM was produced. Which makes no sense. I mean even brand new ones are still having issues with the design. The GMT800 is the best bang for your buck period. GMT 900 can be great as well, but will have to invest in making it bulletproof by deleting the AFM/DOD system.

@@Wicked_RotF30 Just plug in a Range Technology dongle and change your oil on time. 2011 to 2013 are the best years when all the factory updates were completed. Read the GM service bulletins. When They changed to the LT engine in 2014 a whole set of new problems occurred.

New GMT videos coming soon, as well as a big Hummer H2 update (technically a GMT also)
@Wicked_RotF30 Жыл бұрын
I love seeing those rigs off road in their elements. I love the GMT800 platform. The secret service still uses these beasts. I found my 05 Suburban Z71 4x4 for just $2300 qnd i will keep it forever and completely rebuild stronger when needed. I fell in love with it so much, i jumped on the 07 Yukon 4x4 i found for just $2500, but it has the dreaded AFM thag will have to be dealt with at some point. But the Yukon will be a pavement princess mostly and the Suburban will be my overland fun vehicle. I enjoy seeing yall take your families out and have fun together. Life goals one day.

I have a 2001 Yukon Xl. I take in the sand, beaten up steep forest roads. And in winter it's ice, snow, slush, and usually mixture of everything at once. And I live in a hilly area. Never had a problem getting around. Engine still runs like when it was new.

Theyre pretty capable out of the box. Many people have limits before the truck does. The stock trucks have scenario specific limits and thats where the lifts and lockers and things start to be necessary. We have had them stuck many times, as shown in other videos here.

Working on it and have a LOT to catch up on. The corvette side really took pver this year, plus Joshs wife (Joah has the suburban) and I...lets just say we went our separate ways, so the camping/GMT800 side got messed up. I actually have a lot in edit and coming though. The intent is still fully that this is offroad and Corvettes, mixed with car guy stuff in general. With the products I am releasing though, people are on me about updates. Its comin...and I added a variant of the GMT800 as well!

One of the big problems when the A-arms are angled "down" is a harsher ride just from the fact the A-arms are now banging into the frame mounts with more energy than if the A-arm was closer to being level. The more level the A-arm, the more energy that is transferred into the spring and shock and not into the A-arm mounting points when you hit bumps. Also please discuss the CV's and how much droop they can handle before they go "pop"....this is one weak points of the GM IFS. The CV's break so easy with too much droop and turning the wheel while applying throttle.
@KnightDriveTV2 ай бұрын
In my Tahoes case, I have yet to have any axle issues, but Josh's Suburban popped one apart right after his lift was installed. I am on a coilover setup so my droop is limited before the axle pulls apart. The coilovers ride like a dream vs the torsion also

@KnightDriveTV2 ай бұрын
This is up off to the left of Kyle Canyon Road. About 2/3 way to Mt Charleston, there is a large pull off area to the LEFT, that immediately climbs a large dirt road/hill. Much to explore back there
@JohnDoe-ud2cc Жыл бұрын
With the torsion keys did you use shock extensions or longer shocks? I did and I still have like 4 inches of droop with 2.5 inches or lift.
@KnightDriveTV Жыл бұрын
I just purchased it, so I suspect it has oem shocks. A longer bilstein 5100 will likely aid in some droop, but in our offroad experience, trimming the down stop has pulled our axles apart when flexing full on rocks.

At the same you lifted the truck you lowered the ground clearance by adding a drop sytem 🤔
@KnightDriveTV2 ай бұрын
Unless you have portal axles, an IFS on 35's has more clearance than an SAS on 35's. The drop brackets is the only path to a lift shy of long travel and custom arms.

How long of coilovers did you use with the atomic coilovers setup??
@KnightDriveTV6 ай бұрын
The atomic setup asks you to measure lengths and they send a coilover and lower spacer that matches. I never measured an uncompressed length, before install.
