Tail of the Dragon Vlog - BMW R1200GS

Riding for less than two years after a 30+ year hiatus (and on the straight roads of NE) and after building trepidation in my head by watching “all the Dragon vids”, I approached the Tail from the TN side, headed to Bryson City to meet up with a brother. My first encounter was passing a Med-a-vac helicopter sitting on a concrete apron with law enforcement cars grouped around, flashing lights and all. Continuing down the road, sure enough here comes the ambulance coming down off the dragon, I pull off the side of the road to turn on my GoPro - and am passed by a flat bed recovery truck headed up onto the Dragon. Camera now on, I continue - and sure enough, encounter the scene of the accident - recovery truck parked in road, people slowing traffic down - and a black sports bike up against the mountain. Nervous was I !!! I can imagine your at night experience challenged the soul!!!! Blind curves are challenging enough but to not have illumination into those turns...... UGH!!!

Absolutely! That road is challenging enough in good conditions, but the totality of all the factors I had going made it down right treacherous! I appreciate the comment, mate. Ride safe out there B-)

That area is one of my favorite places to ride. The BR Parkway, Hwy 28, the Foothills parkway and the other roads in the general area are hard to beat. With the leaves off the trees you had the best views. Thanks for sharing this and take care.

It truly is a pretty area. I wish I could have spent a month exploring it. I love Arizona, but NC ain't so bad ;-)

The BRP is outstanding. I would like to do the whole road from start to finish. Quite beautiful when you went. Riding the Dragon at night would definitely be knuckle clenching. Tons of great roads out there for sure.

I haven't been renovated since the 60's either hahaha. Those out in the boonies "resorts" are a toss up on what you get. Very nice of Brian to run you back up to get your bag. I hope to get back to the east coast to ride someday. It will most likely be New England thought. There's more to riding than only curves.

Not I since the 70s! LOL Bryan really came through, hats off, for sure. The Blue Ridge was spectacular, I could spend a week camping and riding just that. Really cool, I hope you get the chance to do it.

azdesertdog my brother just beat Dorian back to Miami last night, after Saturday’s Amtrak Auto Train run from Lorton Va was cancelled. He hightailed it from Augusta ME to Miami in three days of freeway riding and thru the crowded NE corridor. But - he rode New England, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia for about two weeks - and his pics and short vids reveal the trip as outstanding. I was supposed to meet him on Aug 18 as he got off the train and ride with - but family medical situation changed my plans. New England and Canada’s Maritime provinces (he did not make it to Newfoundland) look astounding. I WILL do that trip before I have to give up two wheels......
