Hi, thanks for taking the time to review one of our products. We always love hearing this real-world feedback. Thanks for reaching out to our customer service team - very glad they were able to help you out so promptly. Very frustrating to see the long bolt in the bag, we completely understand that is far from ideal and not how the bag should have come. It's interesting to see your comparison between the two products, we strongly believe that it's about finding what works for you and your riding style. If you're interested, we have some slightly smaller 16l panniers that were designed much more recently that the 22Ls. If you get in touch and mention this comment, we'd be happy to send you those to see what you make of them and the general changes. Great to see your channel picking up steam! Cheers, George

I was struggling to convince myself that, after watching some many bike influencers, I had to spend such amount of money in a Tailifin rear back system and then you presented me an alternative option that met my expectations! I bought a Ortlieb Quick Rack and couldn't be happier! Thanks so much for this.

You are welcome! I hope it brings you many happy miles of cycling 😁

The ortlieb bag attachments will adjust for more width to fit the rack without sliding and as already mentioned using the correct inserts. love my ortliebs just wish there was a decent way of locking them to the bike Great vids, just subbed

Good point. I always remove my bags, but there would be scenarios where that's not practical, and having a way of locking them on would be good. The Tailfin bags don't have that option either.

Good old Ortlieb. Commuters’ gold standard. I’m looking forward to Ortlieb Quick Rack’s thru axel version due soon, I was considering Tailfin racks before but now, thanks to your review, I’m happy to wait for the thru axel version and stick to Ortlieb. Very useful review and thank you for the video!

You're welcome, thanks for the feedback. I'm not writing Tailfin off just yet, but for now I'm definitely sticking with Ortlieb for commuting duties, the bags are just a heap easier to use.

Tailfin lists capacity at 22L per pannier, Ortleib lists pannier capacity as 20L for classic, 23L for Back Roller plus and a choice of 20L or 26L for Vario,

I've heard Ortlieb are releasing a thru axel version early next year.

That's right, I wasn't aware until someone else in the comments mentioned it. Sounds promising!

I had similar fit problem of the tailfin with my Sonder sedona but reached out to tailfin who sent over the universal axle that has an axle extender and spacers which helped alot. Supergood service.

That's great to hear. I've spoke to them about the bolt that's caused the hole and they are shipping me some replacement bolts. Follow video will go up once I've got them and installed.

Hi! I bought the tailfin with adapters for other brands bags. So I use ortlieb panniers with my tailfin. It is the best option when commuting with my Carbon bike.
@TheRadGravelRider29 күн бұрын
Great to hear. I've been looking into getting the adaptors as an option.

Very useful information, but the camera movement was dizzying and challenging to watch.

For the ortlieb back you have to change the gummy adapter of the clips from 10 to 8 for this rack. Doesn't move anymore and won't scratch your rack. i received them with the bags
@TheRadGravelRider26 күн бұрын
Ah, thanks! I've a little bag of adaptors somewhere, I'm off for a rummage.

Buddy, the tailfin ‘clamps’ when trying to get off, easiest way I found was to grip the ‘clamp’ bit and then pull the little bolt thing at the same time. Comes off super easy.
@TheRadGravelRider29 күн бұрын
Top tip, so pinch the clamp swing arm in then pull the bolt? Makes sense, I'll try that next time.
@mattypnufc29 күн бұрын
Bingo. Sorry couldn’t explain it 😂

Tried, tested, works like a dream, they pop off WAY easier that way. Cheers mate 👍🏼

That's why love Japanese and American style pannier bags, hand made repairable last lifetime. These bags are all over-designed over engineered and overpriced, More like automobile products.

I wish purchasing Japanese and American bags was easier and more cost effective for me here in the UK.

I think your bag has a manufacturing defect. I've just checked mine and there is no screws sticking out into the bag or wear in the laptop sleeve. Nor does my laptop or tablet have any damage. I've been using mine almost daily for commuting as well as for bikepacking for well over 18 months. I've found their customer service to be excellent.

Yep, I reached out to Tailfin yesterday and they replied quickly. I've some replacement bolts winging their way to me. I'll pop up a video once they arrive.

Great review. It will be interesting to see how Tailfin respond to your feedback. It seems like a poor oversight in an otherwise excellently designed system.

I've dropped them an email this evening with photos. I'll pop up a short if I get a reply.

Interesting case for the extra length axle you showed here! I can't wait for the Ortlieb's thru-axle mounts that's said to be released in early 2025. My road bike has no mount point and tailfin is a bit much for my needs.
@TheRadGravelRider27 күн бұрын
Ah, I didn't know Ortlieb plan on doing a thru axle. Great to hear.
