To be honest, it's boring. I know they're best friends and they saved each other's butts a lot of times, but just imagine how freaking cool it would have been if we had to fight Tails, like those two wasted opportunities in both Colors and Lost World. The writers were too afraid of that.

Yes it is! In Sonic Crackers, "Tails" was playable in a prototype version of Chaotix. In the final game, "Tails" actually does appear but with Mighty's color palette causing the game to crash! The story for the movie was about Sonic abandoning his buddy Tails, who did not prefer the way he sounded like, because was more like a kid leading him to a depression. Tails then restores Techno Tower to turn himself into a villain with his new partner "Fiona Fox" from the Ken Penders' Sonic the hedgehog Comic series, to destroy the whole universe of Anime World!
