Part 1: • Taimak on Having a Whi...
-----
In this clip, Taimak talks about feeling betrayed by Berry Gordy after being taken under his wing, where he ultimately turned down a multi-film contract after getting a cold reception from the President of his company. After feeling insulted during the meeting where Gordy himself wasn't present, he walked away from the potential sequels of The Last Dragon franchise. Taimak said he was traumatized and heartbroken over the incident, and that from there Gordy shunned him and never worked with him again.

Actually by his own admission, Taimak had his foot in the door of fame and fortune, but he priced himself out of acting opportunities on the insistence of his manager at the time. Berry and others saw potential in him even though he wasn't a seasoned actor and wanted to move him up gradually into bigger leading roles. Taimak was insistent on 'bigger money' after only one successful run in the industry rather than working on improving his acting skills while being cast in smaller roles. He chose to "stick to his guns" and demand similar pay as more seasoned actors. Those types of decisions are what get most would-be actors "black balled" in the industry. He may have had better success if he had established industry connections. He would be in high demand and actively working to this day.

It's always important to know your worth in these situations. What's sad is that even if they paid him $1 million and a small royalty from the movies, Berry Gordy and the studios would have still made a ton of money. But it appears that a lot of these execs are bent on either humiliating or pimping out the talent and if he didn't play their game, they'd effectively black ball him from Hollywood, which it looks like they did.

Whenever I watch TLD I think to myself this would have made a good Saturday morning cartoon. Good villains good hero, a sensationalized heroine. Eddie Arcadian would be a good While E. Coyote villain, setting good traps but foiled every time. Sho nuff and his gang could be the alternate villain and have both villains collaborate on certain shows, and a bumping soundtrack every week.
