In today's video we visit Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan. It is a vibrant city with a mix of traditional and modern culture. With a 48-hour layover in Taipei, here are some of the best things to do when visiting Taipei, Taiwan.
Read the blog on our website:
retirementtravelers.com/how-t...
Visit Taipei 101: Taipei 101 is a must-visit landmark in Taipei. The 101-story skyscraper was once the tallest building in the world and offers a stunning view of the city from the top.
Explore the night markets: Taipei is famous for its night markets, and you can experience the hustle and bustle of the city by visiting some of the most popular ones like Shilin Night Market, Raohe Street Night Market, and Ningxia Night Market.
Visit the National Palace Museum: The National Palace Museum has a vast collection of ancient Chinese artifacts, including jade carvings, calligraphy, and paintings. It is a great place to learn about the history and culture of Taiwan.
Take a stroll through Daan Forest Park. It is a vibrant neighborhood park in Taipei, known for its peaceful surroundings in the middle of the city. We enjoyed the friendly local population, the vast variety of birds and the whimsical displays throughout the park.
Visit Longshan Temple: Longshan Temple is one of the oldest and most famous temples in Taipei. It is dedicated to the goddess of mercy and is a great place to learn about the local culture and religion.
Try the local food: Taipei is known for its delicious street food, and you can try some of the best dishes like beef noodle soup, shrimp and cheese omelettes, and bubble tea. Eat a delicious meal at Din Tai Fung at the Tapei 101 complex. The food is amazing at this restaurant.
Take a walk in Taipei Botanical Garden: Taipei Botanical Garden is a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city. It is home to over 2,000 species of plants and is a great place to relax and enjoy nature.
Overall, Taipei, Taiwan has a lot to offer, and with 48 hours, you can experience some of the city's highlights.

▶️ We started our channel to inspire and share our world travel lifestyle, adventures, and optimistic outlook on life with others. After completing a two-year journey in our Airstream to see all 50 states and 51 National Parks, we left to travel abroad. We have downsized our possessions and sold our home so that we can wander about with only the things in our backpacks.
We love living on the road, traveling each week to a new location. We plan to travel extensively to every part of the world. Ours is not a slow travel lifestyle but rather a vagabondish one. The goal is not to check a country off a list, but to experience it by meeting new people, seeing how others live, and making new friends. We believe in laughing, loving, and living our lives to the fullest.
We are working hard to build a beautiful website where you can get travel information about the places we have been. In addition, we post blog articles to help you travel better. Our channel is a way of augmenting that effort, so sometimes we post videos about how to travel or a vlog showing our lives on the road as we do an activity or an adventure. We also post Shorts, so check those out, too. We hope to entertain you, but most importantly, we want to inspire you and give you the confidence to plan your own adventure around the world.
We invite you to subscribe and comment. We also hope you follow the link to our website and sign up for our newsletter. It's a great way to keep up-to-date with our travels. ◀️

Wow. I had no idea Taiwan offered so much for both city life and mountains. I added it to our travel bucket list! For those who may be gluten free, when we were in Southeast Asia we were able to find food options. Sometimes it took some digging online to find restaurants that offered gluten free, but it is possible. -M

We visited Taiwan in 2017. We did Taipei on our own with metro pass and hired a professional tour guide to take us to the west coast and Alishan. We toured as a family so a private guide was a more cost effective way. We will go back to tour around the whole island in 2025 in conjunction with the Osaka World Expo. We loved those night markets. We visited at least half a dozen. We are Chinese and we still stand out and people came up to offer help ( I guess they heard us discussing directions in English.)

If you're nature lovers, make sure to include east coast Taiwan, say Hualien, in your next visit. The east cast has some of the most beautiful, exciting and highly accessible trails in Taiwan. There're plenty of water activities as well, SUP, canoeing on the Pacific, etc., and dolphin-watching, might even spot a whale or two! Enjoy your south-east Asia trip :)

Taiwanese here and really enjoyed your video, so just hit the "Subscribe" button! I'm glad KZbin's algorithm promoted your video on why you quit Airbnb yesterday and I found that video very useful; then I saw your how-to pack video, which is another useful video. And I just noticed you actually stopped by my hometown Taipei for 48 hours! You went to all the places that I would go to every time I go back home! I left home to come to the U.S. almost 30 years ago and those are to me the best places to visit! I would also go to the Shilin night market as that's near my hometown and I grew up going to that night market! So good to see that you enjoyed the food there. Taiwan is known for nice, friendly, and helpful people and delicious foods anywhere you go. The mountains and beaches there are also beautiful; I am sure you would enjoy them more when you return!

I met you two on Mar. 28 late afternoon on Taoyuan MRT, I just sit on your opposite site, I saw "Retirement Travelers" logo on your T-shirts. Once I got off the MRT at Taipei Station, You asked me: Is this Taipei Station? I said: It is the terminal station. I also retired for two years, I like the way you travel around and I believe you will receive lots of assistance from nice people.

@@RetirementTravelers Yes, we had some. Our Taiwanese friends took us to Ningxia night market and they insisted we try them (along with several other local specialties). We were both surprised how good the stinky tofu was. And I generally don't eat tofu. When you go back, give it a shot. Also, did you try lots of exotic milk teas? Taiwan is the birthplace of milk tea. I totally blew my diet while we were in Taiwan. 🤣

It’s called “da an” park. The an is pronounced more like ang. It’s really easy to pronounce daan as one syllable bc they put the two syllables together like that. And night market is pronounced “shi lin” and pause more in between the syllables. I’m real glad you guys liked Taiwan. You guys did hit the right destination given the 2 day period. Interested in how you guys planned it. What did you use to plan?

@@RetirementTravelers yes, you’ll love the shoreline drive along the east coast. The ocean is unbelievable blue. We loved it when we did it. They say it’s better to go up from the south along the east cost because you’ll be driving in the right side to get a better view of the coast line. If you drive down from the north, you’ll have to look to your left.
