I recommend renting a Ubike and ride it along the river, the bicycle track along the river is my favorite thing about Taipei when I lived there (besides the MRT)

I like your video you explain things well. Just wondering if you could do a video of things to do with MRT stops especially from the Airport all the way down.
@iamjohnsaboe6 жыл бұрын
Scrappy The Cat hi I don't mind doing that however I don't think there are many things of interest to visitors along that line unless you're interested in visiting some outlet malls. If you have a specific place you had in mind let me know!

I've been through the airport in Taiwan many times en route to other destinations but never got the chance to actually enter the country. In November, thanks to the new visa-free program for Filipinos, my wife and I will be doing a week long "side trip" to Taiwan during our Philippines vacation. Thanks for all the great presentations that you do. Cheers!

Does Uber or a similar system operate in Taiwan? If not, is there anything to look for in selecting a taxi there?
@iamjohnsaboe4 жыл бұрын
Uber operates in Taiwan but they are not private drivers. Uber uses regular taxis there. Almost all of the taxi drivers are honest. Occasionally one might take you on a loop to crank up the fare but I think this is mostly rare. Taxis are all metered and for a short ride in Taipei can be as little as $3-$4. In smaller towns it will be a flat fare which sometimes can be negotiated.

Hi, John thanks for your videos! Besides those place you've mentioned in this video I would recommend Chinese Culture University where you can see the most beautiful nightscape of Taipei. But traffic may be a problem, as I know there's no bus go through there (I'm not sureXD). We usually go there by motorcycles or cars. So if you don't have your own vehicle, you can take bus to the nearest stop then walk through some dark alleys(XD to go there or take a taxi, but maybe a little expensive.
@iamjohnsaboe7 жыл бұрын
jc895503 you're welcome and that's a great and unique suggestion. You can catch bus 5 from Shilin MRT station and it takes you right near the university. Thanks!!!

This evening is the first time I ever watch your video, and have since been thru 4 of them. Why am I watching your videos ? Yours have CC and transcripts - while not rare, most travel videos do without them. Yours also have lengthy accompanying video descriptions. I guess when I actually go to Taipei half a year from now, I will need to read the description and transcripts, and don’t need to watch the videos again.
@iamjohnsaboe5 жыл бұрын
Haha, well maybe that’s why people don’t include information or transcripts, so you have to watch the video again. It also helps me because if I don’t no doubt people will still ask me for the information. Thanks and hope you have a wonderful time in Taiwan!

I recommended Dalongdong Bao-An Temple, too, UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards, no pushy tourists , filled with beautiful art and vibrant Taiwanese culture, like "bwa bwei" , and the preservation of the original architecture. A peaceful place at dusk and at night with Soft lighting upon the temple. BTW, "bwa bwei" can be replaced by two coins , Isn't it fun? ^ v ^
@iamjohnsaboe7 жыл бұрын
andreea hsiao yes good choice! One of my favorite temples in Taipei!!!

I agree that if you only have time to see one temple, see Longshan. But I actually like Baoan Temple better, as it's more beautiful and serene in my opinion. It's also next to the Confucius Temple.

Dude, everything you say is true. But the real deal is interacting with the wonderful people. They invite me into their homes and shops to drink tea. I love Dihua Street. Every year I can’t wait to go back. Handmade clothes are high quality. Two MRT lines take you there. Yonkang Park is wonderful. Use the MRT red line to get there. Get off on Dongman stop. Sunmercy pastry shop. Don’t miss cha te pineapple cakes on Nanking Street. Long lines.

Hi we are planning to visit and we are arriving on aug 10 at 1am and leave aug 13 at 0315am. Would u suggest to stay at ximending on our first night and how do we get there at 1am? We have a limited time do u have suggestion of how i could line up the places to visit? Thank you
@iamjohnsaboe6 жыл бұрын
Yes Ximending is fine to stay on first night. It’s not far from Taipei Main Station. You can take the bus from the airport to Main Station then take a taxi to your hotel. Should only be a 10 minute ride. You can hire a guide if you want to see things or you can take the open roof bus tour. I do not offer a free travel planning service so beyond that I don’t have any other suggestions.

Yes go to Yanping South RD No.23. It’s near The North Gate in Zhonzheng district Taipei. There are 2-3 Halal restaurants there serving delicious food. Chang’s Beef Noodle is the best. Also on Sundays many Indonesians gather at Taipei Main Station. You can ask them. There is also a lane next to Taipei Main Station that has several Indonesian restaurants that some of which are Halal.
