@@salilanisdanda7037 Hello Friend. Thanks for your kind words. Regarding students in higher education studying in Taiwan, I can only really vouch for those at my own university taking my mathematics classes... To answer your question, my perception is that while many of my students are very capable & high-performing, the vast majority do not seem to be mathematically inclined or motivated. At full discretion, I work within the International Business & Trade Program so I think my students may be a lot more interested in making big money post graduation than studying any math!

@@terryhsieh7236Corruption is everywhere in all governments, at least to some extent. Relative to other governments, Taiwan "hasn't been corrupted yet", is meaning that it's still a highly-functional society with effective governance. I think this line was misunderstood by many commentators here.

@@jeremymandelkern9260 When you cited Taiwan's Human Freedom Score, I knew you too lived in the ivory tower. You will never understand Taiwanese people until you can communicate with them in both Mandarin and Taiwanese(Hokkien in Singapore).
@jeremymandelkern926011 күн бұрын
@@terryhsieh7236 I think you may need to get out more & go visit these places that you feel are "more free" than Taiwan. This can give you some important perspective; like what I've obtained by living elsewhere before I settled in Taiwan. PRC? Go talk politics there against the ruling (one) party & see how that goes! Russia? Try organizing a protest there & see how that goes! To my point on Taiwan's Human Freedom score, one metric is accessibility to healthcare. Can you name a nation that has better health care than Taiwan's? (note: Its & South Korea's were recently ranked equal best in the world so good luck on that!) In my home country, the US, a very flawed democracy, we at least enjoy these above mentioned rights, to dissent & to protest. You seem to have a very negative perception of (your own?) home & particularly the foreigners who immigrate here, the vast vast majority of which will never master Mandarin & Taiwanese as this is quite a difficult endeavor. Rather than telling such people, who love your nation, "You got it all wrong!", "You're in an Ivory Tower!", "You'll never understand Taiwanese!" (& by implication, be able to assimilate), you can avoid judgement & put yourself in the shoes of those coming here & staying. Most are inherently comparing their QOL here with what they've experienced elsewhere, as I do, when I say I am lucky to live in such a free & welcoming place as Taiwan.

@@jeremymandelkern9260 Whenever people(especially foreigners like you) praise health care in Taiwan, I cannot help but have sympathy on those doctors, nurses and related medical staff. Just like the convenience stores in Taiwan are built on the blood and sweat of cheap labor, the health care system in Taiwan is built on the the blood and sweat of those who dedicate their lives to medical profession. I don't blame your for your ignorance about this dark side of the Taiwan pride but I don't understand why Taiwanese people are proud of the exploitation of their fellow countrymen?
Well, Taiwan's Human Freedom Score is indeed 96/100 last I checked. Not to compare (because it's rather incomparable!), but the "Mainland" you speak of (I think you mean the PRC?), their Human Freedom Score is 08/100 and of course there is no real democracy there (that is unless you consider 2000-0 closed voting system results democracy.). Taiwanese should cherish what a wonderfully free country they have (as I do!) as many in this world are not so lucky to have all the rights granted by this wonderful country, Taiwan (ROC). I think I'll leave it at that.

@vickiecheng4507 當他說:“台灣是一個新興的民主國家,它還沒有被腐化。(Taiwan is a new democracy . It hasn't been corrupted yet.)

@@terryhsieh7236... "are proud of it" & they should be! I think you may have misunderstood the line "It hasn't been corrupted yet". That doesn't mean Taiwan is a zero corruption Utopia. It meant the society is highly-functional with effective governance. It's a loop because this is the essentially the reason that Taiwan ranked as a free democracy as you pointed out. Hope this clarifies. I may be an outsider/legal ARC holder still but my family/son are not! This is the nature of immigration.
