Fliegender Hamburger In 1933 the first German streamlined diesel trainset ran between Berlin and Hamburg: the SVT 877, nicknamed the Flying Hamburger. It was the fastest train service in the world. The 286 kilometers were covered in 138 minutes. The average speed of 124 km/h was only equaled on this route in 1997 by the ICE. The lightweight diesel-electric train set was built by WUMAG after elaborate wind tunnel testing. Both railcars had a Maybach diesel engine, a generator and an electric motor. I had the fortune to travel on this train. I thought that, at that speed, you’ll have to wear your seat belt at all times. The fact is that you can go up and down the train without knowing you are traveling 300kph. Amazing experience!

There's no speed at which you would need to stay in your seat. Conservation of momentum. You're not accelerating or decelerating, so everything is the same as if you were at rest. Now, if the train is bouncing around or something, that's different, but going a consistent speed, it's not.

Much better than the TRA It's very difficult standing still while using the urinal aboard their EMU3000. That's how bad TRA tracks are

I was in this train a couple of times, so great. Also lovely Taiwan (Formosa- old name), regards from Portugal. We gave you the name not our Spanish brothers as a lot of people thinks in Taiwan. We pass by our Caravels towards Japan! Formosa in Portuguese means beautiful shaped !

Taiwan High Speed Rail itself was unique. It's like crossovers technology between Japan and Europe. While the trainsets and its signal technology made from Japan, many detail aspect in infrastructure and trainsets were from Europe. That's because its Europe consortium who were actually win the bid for the trainsets, but the Japanese consortium made late deal which more interesting than European one. This causing controversy, albeit Taiwan handle it somewhat pretty well.

HSR goes from floor B2 to floor B1, and TRA goes from floor B2 to floor B3, then Bannan metro line pass at floor B2 between HSR on the top and TRA under it. The reason that HSR goes to floor B1 is that they planned to expend the service to Yilan!

@@karstenschulz8101AFB means „Automatische Fahr- und Bremssteuerung“. You can translate it with automatic cruise control. It controls the speed of the train according to the LZB. So we definitely have AFB in Germany.

I have never understood why they do some announcements in mandarin and English, others in mandarin, Taiwanese, and English and some in mandarin, Taiwanese, English and I am guessing Cantonese. I think that they were still building the high speed rail when I was there so I traveled on the slow train.

This law mandates that public transportation must provide announcements in Chinese, Taiwanese, and Hakka to ensure equal treatment for Taiwan's diverse ethnic groups and indigenous peoples. Additionally, it is required to have announcements in at least one foreign language, commonly chosen to be English. So, what you think of as Cantonese is actually Hakka.
