MacArthur's Outgoing Address to the Joint Session of the Senate and House of Representatives, April 19, 1951 Because the challenges confronting us are global in scope and deeply intertwined, our country must understand that to focus on and consider only one aspect while ignoring the others will lead to the failure of the whole. If any part of our line of defense is breached by an unfriendly force, every other major part will be decisively attacked and destroyed. That is why I have always strongly recommended that under no circumstances should “Taiwan come under Communist rule!” I have strongly recommended that Taiwan must not come under Communist rule under any circumstances. If that were to happen, Philippine freedom would be threatened, Japan would be lost, and our front lines would be forced to retreat to Hawaii and the West Coast of the United States. *He was temporarily recommended by the Republican Party as a candidate for president.

1) In 1894, Japan invaded China and Korea, the Qing govt was defeated and signed the [Treaty of Shimonoseki] to cede Taiwan Island to Japan. 2) During the WW2, at the Cairo Conference held in 1943, China asked the transfer of Taiwan's sovereignty back to China after the war. This content was included in the [Cairo Declaration] and later reiterated in the [Potsdam Proclamation] that it should be implemented. 3) In 14 Aug & 2 Sept 1945, the Emperor and govt of Japan issued the [End War Edict] and [Japanese Instrument of Surrender], Japan surrendered and accepted the [Potsdam Proclamation]. Japanese troops in Taiwan surrendered to KMT General CKS and Taiwan re-entered the territory of the Republic of China (ROC). 4) Soon after that China civil war broke out in between KMT and CCP, the KMT was defeated and fled to Taiwan. However, due to US intervention, the CCP without strong navy at that time has no ability to unify Taiwan. The CCP then established the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1949. The civil war continues. 5) In 1971, UN Resolution No. 2758 ruled that the PRC had obtained the representation rights and all legal rights originally owned by the ROC in the UN. That means the PRC is China’s only legal govt under international law and is recognized by 181 countries around the world, including the USA. "The USA recognizes the Government of the PRC as the sole legal Government of China." "The USA acknowledges the Chinese position that there is but one China and Taiwan is part of China." Joint Cummunique on the Establishment of Diplomatic relations between the PRC and the USA in 1979. Please refer to President Jimmy Carter's Speech on Relations with China. 6) Therefore, according to international law, international reality, and the wishes of the 1.4 billion Chinese people, Taiwan should return to PRC and the PRC have every rights to protect it's sovereign integrity.

What a load of rubbish. Simply a copy paste of propaganda garbage. 1: The Qing government was Manchu not Chinese, They conquered China, The Qing never controlled Formosa and only settled in the western flatlands. The Aboriginals ruled the other 80% of the island. 2: the Cairo Conference was official, but its outcomes were declarations requiring follow-up treaties and agreements for enforcement. No treaties cede Formosa to the PRC. 3: The Potsdam Proclamation (or Potsdam Declaration, issued on July 26, 1945) was an official policy statement, not a treaty. The Treaty of San Francisco was the official treaty and the PRC was not even invited 4:. When the KMT invaded Formosa the island officially belonged to Japan. The PRC have no claim. 5: UN Resolution No. 2758 ruled in 1971, that the PRC had obtained the representation rights and all legal rights originally owned by the ROC in the UN”. It is true that UN recognition was handed to the CPC as they were the ruling government of China not the ROC . The officially written UN resolution does not state that Taiwan is part of China. or even mention Taiwan6: , 6: There are no internationally recognized treaties, policies, agreements or UN resolutions that declare that Taiwan is part of China and I already know you cannot prove me wrong.

1. For the relationship between Taiwan and the Qing Dynasty, please refer to Wikipedia, which is clearly written. It was the Qing Dynasty that signed the Treaty of Shimonoseki with Japan after losing the Sino-Japanese War, which allocated Taiwan to Japan. For a basic understanding of the history of the relationship between the Manchus and China (refer to Wikipedia), I understand that you are going to say the relationship between the Manchus and the Han Chinese, but both are China. It's like saying Indians are not Americans, one is an ethnicity and the other is a nation, please get the basic logic of the relationship. 2. The Cairo Declaration, which states that "the object of the three Powers is to deprive Japan of all the islands in the Pacific Ocean which it has seized or occupied since the beginning of the First World War in 1914, and to effect the return to China of the territories which Japan has stolen from China, such as Manchuria, Taiwan, and the Pescadores". Refer to Wikipedia 3. China did not sign the Treaty of San Francisco, and the Chinese Government denies the reasonableness of it, which is like two of your neighbors signing an agreement declaring that your house does not belong to you, and you do not recognize the treaty they signed. If the San Francisco Treaty's regional clauses on Taiwan territory, etc. can be recognized, am I to understand that all disputed territories in the world can be settled this way? Typical American hegemony. 4. The Kuomintang invaded Taiwan at a time when the Cairo Declaration was in force, and do not use the word invasion, which at that time belonged to Japan as an illegal occupation. 5. In 971, United Nations resolution 2758 ruled that the People's Republic of China had been granted the right to representation of the Republic of China in the United Nations, with all the legitimate rights that it had previously enjoyed". At the same time, please inquire that the United Nations has repeatedly stated, and reiterated many times, that Taiwan is a province of China. 6. You are trying to play word games here, but it is meaningless. The rise of China is a fact, and China is willing to talk to the world in a peaceful way. (Contrast this with the way the United States talks to the world)@@ResearchFirst-z7j

@@cool-0501 There are no internationally recognized treaties, policies, agreements or UN resolutions that declare that Taiwan is part of China, Firstly: The Qing had minimal control of Taiwan in fact the Qing only managed to rule less than 20% of the island while the aborigines ruled and controlled over 80% of the island. The Qing created a border in 1750 with rocks which was called the Tu Niu Red Line. The Japanese were the first country to colonise Formosa and create roads and infrastructure. The Manchu were as Chinese as the Mongols my friend. Are you also claiming Genghis Khan is Chinese?? I suppose the Vietnamese are Chinese as well? Lol What a joke. The Manchu only declared Formosa a Province of the Qing in 1885 as the Japanese were encroaching on the island & for no other reason. The Qing ceded the island shortly after that. The Qing never conquered Taiwan. 2: the Cairo Conference was an official conference, but its outcomes were declarations requiring follow-up treaties and agreements for enforcement. No treaties cede Formosa to the PRC. 3: The CCP did not sign the Treaty of san Francisco as the island was never ceded to China. The Treaty of San Francisco was formalised and Japan relinquished its sovereignty of Taiwan. The treaty was signed by 49 nations including the Soviet Union but the PRC were not even invited my friend. Article 10 of the Taipei Peace Treaty stipulates that “nationals of the Republic of China shall be deemed to include all the inhabitants and former inhabitants of Taiwan (Formosa) and Penghu (the Pescadores).” Therefore the Treaty of San Francisco transferred Japans sovereignty of Taiwan to ALL the inhabitants living of the island NOT to mainland China. FACT The inhabitants in 1952 were the ROC escapees, Taiwanese Aborigines, Japanese descendants, Dutch descendants, Portuguese descendants, previous Chinese descendants. THE ISLAND WAS NOT HANDED TO MAINLAND CHINA. FACT 4: I agree that the KMT invaded Taiwan. The Kuomintang (KMT) was granted temporary administrative rights over Taiwan following World War II, but it was not a formal transfer of sovereignty. The transfer of sovereignty occurred during the Treaty of San Francisco in which China played no part. 5: UN Resolution No. 2758 ruled in 1971, that the PRC had obtained the representation rights and all legal rights originally owned by the ROC in the UN”. It is true that UN recognition was handed to the CPC as they were the ruling government of China not the ROC . The officially written UN resolution does not state that Taiwan is part of China. or even mention Taiwan as proven below: Resolution on Admitting Peking Resolution 2758 (XXVI) THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. Recalling the principles of the Charter of the United Nations. Considering the restoration of the lawful rights of the People's Republic of China is essential both for the protection of the Charter of the United Nations and for the cause that the United Nations must serve under the Charter. Recognizing that the representatives of the Government of the People's Republic of China are the only lawful representatives of China to the United Nations and that the People's Republic of China is one of the five permanent members of the Security Council. Decides to restore all its rights to the People's Republic of China and to recognize the representatives of its Government as the only legitimate representatives of China to the United Nations, and to expel forthwith the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek from the place which they unlawfully occupy at the United Nations and in all the organizations related to it. China is not Taiwan and you cannot prove otherwise. Taiwan was not even added to the PRC constitution until 1978? The 1978 PRC Constitution was the first Constitution in the PRC to touch explicitly on the political status of Taiwan. It said that "Taiwan is part of China" and said that the PRC "must liberate Taiwan, and finish the great task of reunifying the motherland". However, in 1979, the PRC dropped the liberation stance and opted for peaceful reunification instead. The 1982 Constitution mentioned that "Taiwan is a sacred part of the territory of the People's Republic of China" instead of just "China". The fact is the war was never over Taiwan and during the civil war the island legally belonged to Japan not China. There are no internationally recognized treaties, policies, agreements or UN resolutions that declare that Taiwan is part of China.
