Taj Lake Palace Udaipur | MOST ICONIC LUXURY HOTEL INDIA | Must See Beautiful Marble Palace Hotel

A royal affair in the middle of the Venice of the East, Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. Honest review of five-star luxury hotel the Taj Lake Palace Udaipur in Rajasthan, India.
This Palace Hotel is an island inside Lake Pichola overlooking neighbouring City Palace, Aravalli Hills, Machla Magra Hills and Jag Mandir.
It was built as a summer retreat by Maharana Jagat Singh II, the 62nd custodian of House of Mewar between 1743-1746.
A jewel floating in the middle of Lake Pichola, Taj Lake Palace is a building made of marble locally sourced from Rajnagar, brought in by bullock carts travelling 66 kms to Udaipur. Architecture influenced from Mughals, predominantly lead by Mewari techniques this heritage hotel in Udaipur has 65 luxurious rooms and 18 grand suites. Restored to its pristine glory, this spectacular palace became world renowned when the James Bond film ‘Octopussy’ was filmed at it. It was the secluded lair of the film’s eponymous Bond Girl.
This palace hotel is straight out of a fairy tale, we had a fabulous stay, used their spa facilities, savoured on their opulent breakfast buffet and a la carte menu at Jharokha overlooking lake Pichola, we also enjoyed a vegetarian Royal Palace Thali at 4,500 INR and a non-vegetarian Royal Palace Thali at 5,000 INR at Neel Kamal. The food was served on silver plates and this was overall an exquisite dining experience.
The food experiences in these luxury hotels are mesmerizing, the ingredients of high quality, the service impeccable, dishes served on silver plates but the flavours do sometimes lack authenticity, we noticed this a few times when comparing to cheaper less exclusive establishments, the food then often had more character.
We made the same experience in Udaipur, one night we had dinner outside of the hotel and this was a popular restaurant where we ate Gujarati thali at Natraj dining hall and restaurant and we were seriously indulging and savouring every bite. For context, the veg thali at the Taj Lake Palace costs 4,500 INR compared to 200 INR at Natraj.
The pool area is super beautiful and has the most beautiful views of the hotel surroundings, lake Pichola and boats passing by looking through white arches the white theme throughout this beautiful marble palace hotel could give one Santorini vibes.
It was a very special stay and we can say that this is one of the best 5star hotels in India, if not THE best. But Rambagh Palace in Jaipur might be on equal par to the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur. Worth a stay and a MUST SEE Hotel, even just for a visit, as it is by war the most iconic hotel in India. And probably the most stunning hotel in Rajasthan given its unique location on Lake Pichola and rich history.
