I think for me its about power, our motivation, almost like an anthem, knowing that these lyrics dont have the words 'l'll carry on' its "we'll carry on'. 'We'll' means that there is someone else with us we are not alone when there is a we and this is an army. Our army. It's a powerful saying which stands for so many things such as getting back up when were down, we may be slow but we'll keep moving, no matter how down, slow, low we are we will carry on, no matter how much we hurt or are unhealthy, unsafe, no matter how scared, or how dark it Is when we need light, and etc. We are not going to stop. Its motivational, powerful, its saying to ourselves knowing that we have other peoples backs but also we know during the black parade that other people have our backs too. It's the one place we won't be disappointed, well carry on. The black parade is an army where you can finally be brave and know that people are there with you to help you through, and be scared with you, and to give you those few seconds of life to hold onto when you thought that you didnt have the strength to hold on any longer. People, life, society, even a bad day will do what they want to us, in this song it is like we are surrendering not out of failure or out of giving up hope, but we are surrendering to other people, society, and life so we can finally leave it all behind after accepting the bad things. It's like a delicious hunger finally fulfilled It's like facing up to a bully let them do what they want, let them show others who they really are like, let them get caught in their own darkness because in the end we'll carry on, let them breathe their lies and rumours about us, let them have their judgements, gossip, let them have what they want, let them win, let's face the bad so we can make it good, and we together just like in the black parade well carry on together. It's like karma to me. Or a bad business or customer service even let them have their bad service we'll just carry on to another one a business who deserves us. Saying the words we'll carry on is like saying goodbye to the bad after we have recieved it whether willingly or not. ok we got the bad now lets carry on to the good and we know who take take with us on this journey. Your trying to bring us down? Ok finished? Well carry on without ya and March to the best anthem ever.

You know, having read the Lyrics, I think this song is relatively inspiring and uplifiting. I think it's the story of a person who, after learning their father is terminally ill, their mother already long since passed, and having experienced tragedy, loss, and pain, is being begged not to take their own life but instead stand as an inspiration to others suffering similarly, and the final chorus is the person remaining humble, acknowledging that they are continuing on, not because they believe they're some grand savior or hero, but because they wish to honor their father's last wishes and keep going despite everything, and the uplifting tone of the instrumentals near the end denotes that once they make it through their suffering, there's peace and happiness on the other end.

It's much darker and political than that... there are multiple clues in the lyrics. His dad wants him to be the savior of the broken... but, he "doesn't care at all" about what his dad thinks... because "The Broken" is who we are, don't need saving... and he's not going to apologize to his dad for this stance. The broken don't need saving. But, when his dad is dead and gone, he'll be left broken and defeated because his son doesn't want to be the savior of The Broken like he wanted him to be. But, he'll remember his dad anyway...memory will carry on.

There's an interpretation of the whole album Black Parade where a lost spirit is guiding someone (a cancer patient) to the afterlife, and in that interpretation this song is that lost spirit giving the cancer patient one final goodbye and a grand sendoff and to me it makes sense with the much bolder repetition of the first lines in the song. In a way it gives me comfort when I think of death. My dad is my best friend, and I know someday he won't be with me but when it comes for my time to go, I like to imagine he'll be there to give me a grand sendoff.

Honestly, the opening piano alone is such a powerful resonating feeling for me. I was 11 when this album first dropped, and I had already known and liked Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, but this felt so different. I heard it talked about by friends throughout middle and high school, it truly was a 2000s emo kid's rallying anthem that makes me almost wish those times returned. How the internet used to be, what life was like for me back then, the culture difference, it's all so thoroughly captured in just the opening minute of the song alone. It's like coming back to a very old friend, where the bond is so strong that you don't even need to talk, just being able to enjoy each other's presence; no need for catching up, because no matter how long you've been away, you two just work perfectly.

When I was a young boy My father took me into the city To see a marching band He said, "Son, when you grow up Would you be the savior of the broken The beaten and the damned?" He said, "Will you defeat them? Your demons, and all the non-believers The plans that they have made?" "Because one day, I'll leave you a phantom To lead you in the summer To join the black parade" When I was a young boy My father took me into the city To see a marching band He said, "Son, when you grow up Would you be the savior of the broken The beaten and the damned?" Sometimes I get the feelin' She's watchin' over me And other times I feel like I should go And through it all, the rise and fall The bodies in the streets And when you're gone, we want you all to know We'll carry on, we'll carry on And though you're dead and gone, believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And in my heart, I can't contain it The anthem won't explain it A world that sends you reelin' From decimated dreams Your misery and hate will kill us all So paint it black and take it back Let's shout it loud and clear Defiant to the end, we hear the call To carry on, we'll carry on And though you're dead and gone, believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And though you're broken and defeated Your weary widow marches On and on, we carry through the fears Oh, ah, ha Disappointed faces of your peers Oh, ah, ha Take a look at me, 'cause I could not care at all Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part I won't explain or say I'm sorry I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars Give a cheer for all the broken Listen here, because it's who we are Just a man, I'm not a hero Just a boy, who had to sing this song Just a man, I'm not a hero I don't care We'll carry on, we'll carry on And though you're dead and gone, believe me Your memory will carry on You'll carry on And though you're broken and defeated Your weary widow marches, oh Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part (we'll carry on) Do or die, you'll never make me (we'll carry on) Because the world will never take my heart (we'll carry on) Go and try, you'll never break me (we'll carry on) We want it all, we wanna play this part (we'll carry on!)

Your demons, and all the non-believers The plans that they have made?" "Because one day, I'll leave you a phantom To lead you in the summer To join the black parade" When I was a young boy My father took me into the city To see a marching band He said, "Son, when you grow up Would you be the savior of the broken The beaten and the damned?" Sometimes I get the feelin' She's watchin' over me And other times I feel like I should go And through it all, the rise and fall The bodies in the streets And when you're gone, we want you all to know We'll carry on, we'll carry on And though you're dead and gone, believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And in my heart, I can't contain it The anthem won't explain it A world that sends you reelin' From decimated dreams Your misery and hate will kill us all So paint it black and take it back Let's shout it loud and clear Defiant to the end, we hear the call To carry on, we'll carry on And though you're dead and gone, believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And though you're broken and defeated Your weary widow marches On and on, we carry through the fears Oh, ah, ha Disappointed faces of your peers Oh, ah, ha Take a look at me, 'cause I could not care at all Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part won't explain or say I'm sorry I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars Give a cheer for all the broken Listen here, because it's who we are Just a man, I'm not a hero Just a boy, who had to sing this song Just a man, I'm not a hero I don't care We'll carry on, we'll carry on And though you're dead and gone, believe me Your memory will carry on You'll carry on And though you're broken and defeated Your weary widow marches, oh Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part (we'll carry on) Do or die, you'll never make me (we'll carry on) Because the world will never take my heart (we'll carry on) Go and try, you'll never break me (we'll carry on) We want it all, we wanna play this part (we'll carry on!)

I get so many weird looks when I'm wearing an Oxford shirt and boat shoes driving an suv like every other suburban ass dad and I've got this cranked to 11 screaming it at the top of my lungs. I was never "emo" but damn this music always spoke to me.
