My problem is when you have a factory flaw/defect, Hasbro will replace it with "a figure" of equal or lesser value. Not the exact figure you bought. That's very poor customer service.

Another video pointed out this issue and there was a comment that said: So in other words... There's no problem at all if it isn't an obstruction. You can barely see the misassembly, and I would have already forgotten that it was even that way to begin with. For a $90 figure, I'd rather not break the toy trying to fix it if it isn't that "broken". I chimed in with: You remember that the next time you buy a car and there's a blemish in the paint that everyone can see and the dealer says "you're just being too picky". You paid a premium for something, you expect it to be right.

Virtually every car comes off the line with blemishes/lines in the paint if you look hard enough. There could also be panels that aren't lined up quite perfect. You could ask for a replacement, but the new car will have other imperfections. In fact, I noticed a couple things on SS86 OP that bothered me for a minute (ie chest mouldings not quite sitting flush with the windows - like really minor), but you have to let go of that stuff or it will just kill your enjoyment. (Edit: I looked online, and even at the back of the box photos and they're all like this. Again, it's not really an issue.) Like with the car analogy, I could be "that customer" and complain and ask for a replacement, but the replacement will likely have the same issue, or some other issue that bothers me even more. It's one thing if there's a deep scratch in the plastic/paint that is impossible to ignore. Then it's your duty to get a replacement. The incorrect foot placement is annoying if you let it be annoying. I was honestly thinking about it as I was opening the box and checking to see if the feet were misaligned was going to be the first thing I did. By the time I got the box opened and the figure unbound I never once thought about it. No, sorry. I did take a look at the feet, but I forgot what the correct orientation was and that's when I decided that I didn't care enough to care. I've had a blast with this figure and took some great photos of OP in all his posable glory. In the end, I do get why it bothers some people. Before I got the toy it niggled me a little bit, but what made me not care too much is that I always forgot what the correct alignment was supposed to be. In that regard, it's an understandable manufacturing error. In years to come the first run may be more collectable because of the error.

Pretty sure they come from the same plant and they most likely caught the error until well after they started production. I think it's a Supplier Quality and Engineering process issue and less a Hasbro vs Takara difference.

Yeah that's much more likely the case, it's more that Takara were lucky that they're releasing the product later than Hasbro and thus were able to get the batches that fixed the build quality* issue of the original. *I'm referring this as build quality issue instead of QC since QC issues only affect certain copies, build quality issues are QCs that affect all copies of at least a run like with this or the first run of Kingdom Galvatron.

This is probably a good time to mention that Kingdom Galvatron got a running change variant within the Kingdom toyline that fixed the misassembled shoulders. So, if you're apprehensive about buying an SS86 Optimus, there will be reports of any running change variants that come in the next couple of months.

Not really, the running change time frame occurred because the toy was released first in Kingdom, and then in Legacy. Also with Galvatron you could rotate the shoulders to not show, or at the time, for $2 get some plugs from Larkin's lair to fix, like I did. However, This is Prime, and even at the shows, the assembly issue was early on. Also telling us about changes is irrelevant to the problem at hand --- It should not happen.

I think i originally ordered from Amazon and that version had the incorrect shoulders, but then saw it at Target during that initial release period with the correct shoulders. Is this heal issue for Optimus Prime for every single one, or just a select batch?

I feel your disappointment and frustration, people. Mine arrived yesterday and the heels are misassembled. I'm not going to buy a Dremel or the Takara Tomy because I dabble in several lines and there's a budget. Yeah, man, I care. It's the principle of the thing!

Got my copy from Amazon today and not only is his heels also misassembled, which seems universal, but his thighs aren’t correctly screwed in properly so there’s a gap, and the worst part is there already damage to the figure with scratches on the plastic. Particularly the left bicep where there’s a big gash. The top of the trailer is also scratched up to hell. I get so unlucky with these SS86 Commander classes man. The Ultra Magnus I got already had paint chipping out the box and the left knee tab refuses to tab in. The QC is just awful.

Just got mine, and while I'm not really bothered, it's a serious misstep by Hasbro, and should rightfully be called out. Hasbro needs better communication with their assembly team as a mistake like this shouldn't have even hit the preorder let alone reveal stage. Not about to buy a second, but if down the line Hasbro does a solitary release minus the trailer as a Leader once the hype goes down I'd be down for that.

Unless I get the right tools, Hasbro pins have a rough end and can damage the plastic. I know how to do it but I will not I like the toy too much.

Werent the Media pictures from Hasbro also with the right heels? And the Instructions also had the right heels. Thats how people compared the figure to the pics and instructions and found out. So imho time will tell, if TT assembled them right, when people get their TT versions.

No. They are just closer in proximity, and probably have a smaller order to fill than Hasbro because they are supplying mainly Japan. The lead designer of SS'86 Optimus Prime was Evan Brooks from Hasbro.

Not really - -"Hasbro QC" is mostly a myth as the same factories are used for both Hasbro and TakaraTomy. In fact, the factories are actually contracted to TakaraTomy (so if you wanted to take things to the extreme, you could say TakaraTomy is indirectly responsible for the QC issues to an extent). The heels being fixed aren't a matter of "Hasbro vs TakaraTomy," it's a matter of "whose batch came first."

Takara showdown, at least in my 25 years of collecting where Takara made minor fixes. To say there is no Hasbro QC would be a misnomer.

@@superroboted I appreciate the response -- it definitely depends on the mold and time period! When I say "hasbro QC is largely a myth", I mean in the current era of Siege onwards. Back around Combiner Wars TakaraTomy did have better/more paint, but that's because Hasbro has to budget out an entire wave while TakaraTomy budgeted more on individual items. On the other hand, I remember Prime (the show) having the TakaraTomy releases expecting you to use stickers over Hasbro's factory paint. There's always exceptions and differences (currently Earthspark Aftermath stands out to me with the TakaraTomy version being a better deco IMO) but for the most part I think they're about equal in modern mainline.

No. Takara has their own orders they fill with the factory. So they can make the call to make sure the fix is there.
