Hi rich Thank you very much for this extremely exciting and interesting video! Just fantastic what can be done together with WebODM and QGIS! I am extremely enthusiastic about both tools and will familiarize myself even more with drone mapping. Simply cool...!! I always enjoy watching all of your videos and have learned a lot! Greetings from Switzerland!

Glad you enjoyed it! Earlier this morning I spent some time on a few new flights I'm doing today. I blocked everything out in QGis, and I'm ready for the flight today. In the case of today's project we're focusing much more on the video side of things. But QGis is a big help with that as well.

For 3D models are you using the Mavic or the Phantom 4? I was reading the WebODM book and they recommended either the 4's mechanical shutter shots or if something like the Mavic, to have the drone stop before taking the photo. They also recommended taking the shots from 2 different passes - one at an angle and one cross-path with the camera pointing straight down. I was thinking that dual-flight paths would give both orthomosaics as well as a quality 3D model for the cost of a few extra minutes of flight time. Is that true or do we need dedicated flights for 3D models and orthos? My new house is finally getting ready for the lot clearing and excavating so I'll be heading down to NC in a couple of weeks to start my own construction progression series so the kids can see what mom & dad are up to🙂

I'm actually using the Mavic 2 Pro. I've found that slower speeds, or stopping at each waypoint still leaves me in a good spot for orthos.

Ok it’s a great product till you want to share it with a client then you either have to be a computer wizard or pay to host it

You're correct. I take the 3D models and share them on Sketchfab. The orthos I generate get hosted on one of my client websites. We can overlay before and after Orthos for clients to see changes. We can also share DEMs on web pages as well. WebODM is a great application for those just starting out with modeling. But if you're doing higher end work Pix4D, Drone Deploy, Map Pilote Pro, and some of the other cloud based modeling sites might be needed. The prices can get pretty steep as well. In the end, as folks grow into mapping and modeling they'll find some cost inflation for sure.
